The fact that any state would debate this in their congress,
screams of special interests involvement.
It in no way could be connected or considered as a possible infringement of the separation of church and state guarantee!

As you feel this way, we shall all accept it as so... drinks

It's soo obvious you would think,

it is a specialty plate. Correct?
As so it is a personal choice. Correct?

So if the Gov is not forcing this plate as the OFFICIAL standard version of their State Plate,
How can it be any other way?

Offer selections for all or none - I find it rather simple.

Don't forget ADJ's point - I'm allergic to oranges, it is the official standard tag

Come on.

Tell me how its related?

Is the state saying,
Hey, this is your plate. If you dont like it you can pay extra and get a different plate?

No!
Its the other way.
They are saying if you want "this specialty Plate" you have to pay extra!

I did tell you how it's related, either offer for all or none.

I find it offensive - does that matter? others find it offensive? Some don't give a hoot? Whom shall we please???

if they want to make specialty plates of Jesus they really should make plates honoring other religions. I'm sure someone out there might find a religious plate honoring Jesus offensive, I do not, but someone else might. For me I have a gamebot advance or nintendo ds to play, so I don't have to look at the plates if I do not wish to.

The state has NO RIGHT to charge any extra for something that doesn't not belong the the state.

It is highly questionable if the state should even be included in transportation affairs.

But even if they are allowed to participate, they have no right to discriminate between a plate that says #XXX### and a plate that says DAMNGOD.

Not only that, but they can not charge any more that is provable expense to prepare a special plate, and they should allow one to acquire the qualifying plate from free market.

Shouldn't people be watching the road, instead of looking at someones license plate?

I agree with that. I have no problem with Muslim plates or Hindu plates even Atheist plates

if someone is offended by another's display of their religion on a licenses plate that is kinda just too bad.

If people in America find the image of Jesus offensive then they must walk around constantly in a state of offense, because I know they see that image everywhere. Its a common image in this country.
It has to be.
The Gov cant impose on a persons religious beliefs and preference.
This is America!

The state government is responsible for making plates.

How is that keeping with the separation?

How is that anything other than a state sponsoring religion?

WHICH IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!!

As nogames mentioned...

Allow free market to determine and manufacture the plate content and it would eliminate the issue.

the Constitution says nothing about states sponsoring religion. All it says is Congress shall neither support nor prohibit religion

Seperation of Church and State is mentioned no where in the Constitution. It was just an idea mentioned by Jefferson after he was President

There should be no government sponsored display of religion specific material.

Why not??? Because it offends liberals? Our country was FOUNDED on religious values. And theres the freedom of speech and expression thing that certainly does not preclude Christians from expressing thier beliefs.

Before you ACLU nuts even start:
The seperation of church & state was clearly intended to keep churches from running the government, like the Church of England did, not to prevent people from expressing thier religious values, going to church, praying in school, etc.

YOu guys need to move to Somalia or somewhere that religion has no part to see what happens when you let people do whatever they want to do with no laws founded on religious values. I predict you get your freakin head chopped off with a a machete in about 2.2 seconds.

No one has a problem with peoples religious views, they have a problem with people using them to demonize those that don't share their particular values, or pushing your values on others.

The reason you might get your head cut off is NOT due to laws NOT FOUNDED on religious values, it's 'because of' those religious values in that country I beleive, is it not?

BS!

This thread starts out trying to make an unrelated connection between the availability of a specialty license plate in Florida, and the guarantee of separation between church and state laws.

The idea of a relation is so far out in left field it bleeds of religious hate!

What the heck does your response have to do with mine here?

I personally don't give a hoot what's on a license plate, you could put the bible on it and it won't affect me in the least, unless you get out of your car and start preaching at me, I just don't care.
