The only problem, which is HUGE, that I have with the notion of the Law of Attraction is that it falsely ascribes causal relationships...

One must believe in some transcendental cause...

The entire rulebook of logic must be thrown out the window in order to believe it!

Tony Robbins is real!

I am glad to read that you have some of his material...

Very uplifting!

Peace out!

Yes I agree that those who are reality bound and lean towards atheist belief, have a problem with anything beyond the realm of "real physical stuff."

I am jeannie. You are cute.

I do tarot card readings on this club and argue with my friends about the law of attraction.

They are all picking on me tonight LOL.

They tell me I am delusional and full of bull. LOL

I also believe in aliens..... laugh laugh laugh laugh

Awww... JB,

I was not meaning to imply that you, as a person were full of bull, I was referring to subject matter. I believe that it is a method which leads to confusion for someone looking for a 'better' way.

I am all for positive thinking on logical grounds!

Nevermind the aliens, I have no idea if they exist... I believe that they could...

You think that positive thinking and visualization about your goals lead to confusion? How much do you really know about the creative techniques or the ideas behind the law of attraction?

Sure, some of the techniques utilize a faith based "higher power" type of idea and others don't. There is something for everyone. Even atheists.

If you don't believe in the "higher power" part of it then just call it the subconscious mind. I'm not so sure that is what the higher power is anyway.

Whatever it is, the technique works if you understand it and can master it. There is nothing confusing about it.

I beg your pardon, JB, for intruding in the middle of your story, but I just couldnt wait..

I am a firm believer in the doctrine of "YOU GET WHAT YOU WISH FOR"! (wether its called the "law of Attraction" [LOA] or whatever) However, our personal wishes affect only our personal microcosm, i.e. health, relationships, wellbeing, etc.
However, the LOA faulters,if our wishes depend on the others:
LOA does not enable one estimating the consequences of various causes -- it just blindly attracts the positive consequences (if any). I bet a lot of people, who were practicing the LOA, must've been surprised getting laid off -- when their place of employment got shut off... (BECAUSE LOA HAS NO EFFECT ON THE MACRO WORLD! ! !)***********************************
Despite of how strongly one beleives in her/him-self -- even if supported by subconscious beliefs and affirmations -- unfortunately, one still remains just a victim of circumstances (in the global sense*). For, if poeple are to blame for their own circumstances, then millions of people must have wished for the current crisis to happen? (maybe subconsciously?) However, the economic UPS and DOWNS are cyclical in nature and do not depend on the common will -- such is the nature of the beast (i.e. political system)!!!

I do not mean to dispute the effectiveness of the LOA on a STRICTLY PERSONAL LEVEL -- it is a powerful technique! However, one must be aware of its limited application! ! !

P.S. Just because one is worried about getting infected with the AIDS, doesn't necessarily mean inviting the desease into one's life(?)

Of course everyone everywhere, since the explosive movie "The Secret" has been hearing about the Law of Attraction. I heard about this creative technique long time ago before it was called "The law of Attraction." That may have been originally coined by Esther and Jerry Hicks.

Since this explosion on the Law Of Attraction everyone is getting on the bandwagon and writing books about it. Does it work? If it didn't would so many people be proclaiming it does? The first few books out about this "Think and grow rich" technique were not called the law of attraction. I bought one called "How to solve all your money problems forever." for $15.00 when I was 27 years old and it was about training your subconcious mind to believe certain things using affirmations.

I looked on Amazon.com for Books about the Law of Attraction and there were over 10 pages of them.

Here are some names I cut and pasted of books found. Everyone had gone mad for the Law of Attraction.

Yet these creative techniques have been around for centuries. They are written about in the Bible. One book just caught my attention I may order by a doctor:

The "Law of Attraction" and the "Subconscious Mind" by Dr. Michael J. Williams PhD JD.

The next post is a long list of other books out on LOA.

As for your point, you are correct. One individual cannot change the course of an entire nation economy or corporation.

But an entire nation thinking the same things might be able to.

An entire corporation focused on a single goal could probably turn the company around.

There is nothing confusing about it.

That completely depends upon what warrants the grounds for belief. I make no assertation of whether or not good things will come from one who uses positive thinking techniques.

However, randomness of unrelated sets of events do sometimes play a determining role, regardless of the nature of thought.

What would motivate a person to take action towards a "better place" if they did not believe they could accomplish their goal of getting there?

If they did not believe they could get there, why would they take the action?

Action must be preceded by the thought that they will succeed, that thought is what is meant by a "positive thought."

Thought and intention must precede action. One does not usually get where they want to be if they don't know where that is and they won't know where that is unless they think about it and believe they can get there.

I agree, but just because one does know and does takes steps towards the goal does not mean that a coconut will not coincidentally fall from a tree and kill them while vacationing in a tropical paradise, or that a bomb will not coincidentally go off in a building next to them while they are walking down the street, or that during rush hour traffic they will not coincidentally get rear-ended by a Mack truck and die, or that etc...

All of those situations have cause and effect.

The overlap in events, to use your terminology, is a matter of unrelated(random) probability(chance)...

All of those situations have cause and effect.

The overlap in events, to use your terminology, is a matter of unrelated(random) probability(chance)...

True but the 'random' part is caused by conscious will. The man, for some reason, decided to walk under the tree at that precise time. His subconscious mind (which knows and is aware of much more that he is aware of) did not intervene and prevent his mishap and death. (as mine did when a man was hiding in the back seat of my car!)

Therefor I believe that he (and his higher mind) chose to get hit by the coconut and die at that precise time.

I also believe that our birth and death in this world are predetermined by our higher self, and that we live many many lives and die in many many ways.

If I had chosen to be killed by knife point by a man in the back seat of my car, my subconscious higher mind would not have warned me that he was there.

When it is time for me to die, be it in my sleep peacefully or being hit by a flying coconut, I will probably have little warning.

We die when we die.

So the reason I believe the way I do has little to do with mindful logic. The truth of reality is not logical. It is spiritual and way different than you think it is.

ummmmmm excuse me! I know I am ugly and unpleasant to talk to, but what is the reply to this post that I am reposting again. Everyone just skipped right over it like it didn't exist!

Any reply any truth to this or what?

Here it is:

The definition for emotional intelligence follows:

The awareness of and ability to manage one's emotions in a healthy and productive manner.

allpsych.com/dictionary/dictionary2.html

So this means to me if one thinks positive on a continous bases and adapts to changes quickly to achieve desires or goals then one actually builds their EQ at the same time.

Some say EQ is more important then IQ. I mean I think both are important personally, but EQ - Emotional Intelligence could be another form of using the laws of attraction.

So perhaps the laws of attraction is using your emotional intelligence.

If not then, it surely has some similiarities in the definition that is for sure.

The definition for the law of attraction:

It posits that one should never dwell on the negative, as the "metaphysical principle of life" is embodied in a "law of attraction": "you get what you think about; your thoughts determine your destiny."

So Emotional Intelligence is how one has the ability to handle situations in a positive and healthy productive manner.

One can say healthy and productive is the same as thinking positive to achieve one's goals.

Good morning Smiles happy happy

While the emotions play a significant roll in using the creative techniques that employ the Law of Attraction each of these things are completely different things.

In the creative techniques, the emotions are utilized as a guide to know when you are attracting what you want as apposed to when you are attracting what you DON'T WANT.

But it is NOT emotions themselves that create your reality, it is your THOUGHTS AND YOUR BELIEF.

Emotions and thoughts are not the same thing. If you are very depressed, and you are trying to create your reality and attract something unto yourself that you want, your depression is an indicator that you are NOT attracting it towards you because if you were, you would be excited and not depressed.

When I think of something I want, and I intend to have it, and I believe I can will, do and can have it, I get excited!!!  happy happy

But if I don't believe it, and don't believe my affirmation, I am not excited. If I am depressed, that energy tells me that I am not attracting what I want.sad sad

Now when a person can CONTROL their emotions (many people don't know how to do this) it will aid them in doing the creative techniques and in attracting what they want because if you are having GOOD FEELINGS then you know what you want is being drawn to you and if you are having NEGATIVE feelings, you know that what you don't want is being drawn to you.

To clarify:
GOOD FEELINGS - JOY = HIGH VIBRATIONS,
BAD FEELINGS - Depression and hopelessness etc = LOW VIBRATIONS.

SO IT FOLLOWS THAT in order to successfully attract WHAT YOU WANT you must realize that FEELING GOOD is extremely important. So before you begin to practice the creative techniques purposefully (visualization and asking via thought) you should do what ever you can to FEEL GOOD OR FEEL BETTER.

FYI this is what "sex magic" is all about. The visualization is done during the point of orgasm and that is the highest feel-good energy some people can muster. It (the vibration) pushes the request into the formless thinking substance (mind), and creates the thing that was imaged by the thought in formless substance. Then, to continue to think and feel excited about receiving what you want will hasten the thing you want as it manifests into your experience.

So while it is great have "emotional intelligence" and control of your emotions, it is not "the law of attraction" it is simply part of the creative technique.

You can gain control of your emotions by thinking "better" thoughts, and bringing your emotional vibrations up the scale from depression to anger and on up the ladder to joy. (depression is a lower vibration than anger because depression is more hopelessness and anger has power to motivate action towards change.)

The highest energy and the most powerful attractive vibration is JOY.

If you can climb the ladder to JOY in your emotions, you can better use your thoughts to create your reality.

This is one of the reason people FAIL in creating their reality because they try to have 'positive' thoughts when they are in fear or feeling depressed or angry.

The better you feel and the closer you are to JOY the more successful your thoughts will be and the more the creative techniques will work to bring you what you ask for. You ask for a thing by thinking about it, focusing on it, visualizing it, observing it etc.

Your definition of the law of attraction is not accurate: Here is the definition:

THAT WHICH IS LIKE UNTO ITSELF IS DRAWN

This is talking about vibrations. Emotions have vibrations. (Misery loves company too.)

Do you desire to hang around depressed people when you are feeling JOY? Of course not. You will not be drawn to depressed people unless you too are depressed. If you do bump into the wrong vibration, you will feel it and you will feel uncomfortable and probably leave. You will not desire to hang around.

Even Anthony Robbins uses this creative technique of accessing better feelings to change a person's vibrations. Creative says that he is not metaphysical. This does not matter. A person can practice the creative techniques as long as they can believe the thoughts they think. Thinking and belief are what create reality.

Chapter 17 The Science of Getting Rich The summary:

THERE IS A THINKING STUFF FROM WHICH ALL THINGS ARE MADE, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and fills the interspaces of the universe.

A thought in this substance produces the thing that is imaged by the thought. A person can form things in his thought, and by impressing his thought upon formless substance can cause the thing he thinks about to be created.

In order to do this, a person must pass from the competitive to the creative mind. Otherwise he cannot be in harmony with formless intelligence, which is always creative and never competitive in spirit. A person may come into full harmony with the formless substance by entertaining a lively and sincere gratitude for the blessings it bestows upon him.

Gratitude unifies the mind of man with the intelligence of substance, so that man’s thoughts are received by the formless. A person can remain upon the creative plane only by uniting himself with the formless intelligence through a deep and continuous feeling of gratitude.

A person must form a clear and definite mental image of the things he wishes to have, to do, or to become, and he must hold this mental image in his thoughts, while being deeply grateful to the supreme that all his desires are granted to him. The person who wishes to get rich must spend his leisure hours in contemplating his vision, and in earnest thanksgiving that the reality is being given to him.

Too much stress cannot be laid on the importance of frequent contemplation of the mental image, coupled with unwavering faith and devout gratitude. This is the process by which the impression is given to the formless and the creative forces set in motion. The creative energy works through the established channels of natural growth, and of the industrial and social order.

All that is included in his mental image will surely be brought to the person who follows the instructions given above, and whose faith does not waver. What he wants will come to him through the ways of established trade and commerce.

In order to receive his own when it is ready to come to him, a person must be in action in a way that causes him to more than fill his present place. He must keep in mind the purpose to get rich through realization of his mental image.

And he must do, every day, all that can be done that day, taking care to do each act in a successful manner. He must give to every person a use value in excess of the cash value he receives, so that each transaction makes for more life, and he must hold the advancing thought so that the impression of increase will be communicated to all with whom he comes into contact.

The men and women who practice the foregoing instructions will certainly get rich, and the riches they receive will be in exact proportion to the definiteness of their vision, the fixity of their purpose, the steadiness of their faith, and the depth of their gratitude.

Good Morning Jeannie. Thank you for taking the time to reply.drinker

You mention: So while it is great have "emotional intelligence" and control of your emotions, it is not "the law of attraction" it is simply part of the creative technique.

What you write including this passage that stuck in my head like glue tells me that emotional intelligence does help aid into understanding the laws of attraction.

It makes alot of sense to me. drinker
