As for my head, it could also benefit from examination... Well then post a pic and let's get to examining it! Oh, my darling, I wish I could... Something's missing in my PC that prevents me from posting my pic! But I'm working on it. And one of these days you'll be rewarded for your patience... |

We now have the ability to store enormous amounts of data in crystals. Wouldn't it be a shame to find a crystal that contained the information on some past civilization, then cut it up and make jewelery because it is pretty? Yeah, that's what happened to all of the encient "tape-recorders" of past civilizations -- that have been based on crystals instead of the magnetic tape... However, the technology has been irrevocably lost. No wonder I feel exhilaration when I put my diamond pendant on -- and all sorts of weird thoughts come rushing to my head... I'm gonna have it examined by specialists! (the diamond, that is) -- although I doubt an enthomologist would be of much help. That would have to be a multi-purpose specialist: Psycho-Medi-Enthomologist? As for my head, it could also benefit from examination... |

Tell me how it goes when you have slept with the president will ya Well, I don't usually "Sleep & Tell", but in your case -- since we're partners -- I'll make an exclusion (if & when I ever get to sleep with the president...) Now that you pointed it out, I understand the wide spread appeal and far reaching applications for such a remedy: ..around the world people use all kinds of various drugs approved by a drug administration or not to try to stay awake longer then what are body's are accustomed to.. these individuals have to keep two jobs just to have basic neccessities in some of these countries. Just go to Taiwain and you will see many young folks hooked on drugs to stay awake.
If there was a natural remedy that wouldn't produce side effects and destruction to the mind and body then that would be ideal for those who don't value sleep and rather use the time to explore and study more then the usual. Medical residents wouldn’t have to worry about misdiagnosing emergency-room patients because their cognitive faculties have been reduced to goo by brutally long shifts. Truck drivers could pull coast-to-coast runs without slowing down, except for an occasional pie-and-coffee break. Ambitious people could hold two full-time jobs at once and simultaneously earn multiple Ph.D.s. Exxagerated I know! Scientists can probably discover more at a faster rate in all branches available to us. Certainly, I haven't given a thought to all possible implications of the Mirracle pill: apparently, certain safeguards will be necessary... (Price being one of those limitations, making the pill available only as a prescription drug... thereby avoiding some/all of the problems you noted: Perhaps unemployment would be higher since corporations would have small staff (knowing they don't need sleep) working for their profits. Hotels and Motels would be called Stop-In-Quicky-Tell?? lol Would this create a larger case of obesity, diabetes, hypertension and depression? Would reducing or eliminating sleep cause an epidemic of related health problems? What sort of effects would it have on our personalities and social interactions? With all that additional time to read blogs and watch 24-hour cable news, would we all suffer from mega information overload — or worse yet, become so insufferably well-informed on every subject that we’d bore each other to death? Though, the benefits would outweigh the disadvantages: It almost touches the brink of being immortal if you think about it. You actually feel like you have lived 200 years worth of life instead of the 100 if one didn't have to sleep. (Of course in actuality one would live an actual 100 years not missing out 1/3 of it on sleep like you have mentioned.
However, there seem to be more far reaching implications: I haven't researched the subject completely -- just barely skimed over... But, from what I've seen, the problem goes much more deeper than just preventing secretion of Dopamine... ***It appears to be essential to the normal functioning of the Central Nervous System since Dopamine's Reduction in the brain is associated with Parkinson's desease -- when some of the neurons are destroyed, the trembling ensues... *** On the other hand, Too much of Dopamine leads to Schizophrenia!*** The gist of the matter seems to be in preserving the golden Ballance! (not too much, or not enough...) Nevertheless, I agree: What it is worth, I could imagine if anything, it would make a great fiction novel for people to imagine the possiblities.
Though, a lot more research would have to be done -- to make the novel really captivating... |

I actually wanted to write a novel about a scientist... Well if anything, just by posting this idea (if not already taken) I am sure there will be someone who will take the idea and get busy to become the next New York's Bestseller. It wouldn't be the first time this happens to me I think you should go for it (before anyone else does)! Though its regretable that it is impossible to pattent the ideas as intellectual propperties! (unfortunately, such a preposterous idea would effectively halt the progress!) As far as I know, Sleep Deprivation is one ofthe worst tortures! Apparantly, some amino-acid, DOPAMINE is secreeted by one of the organs that send a signal to the brain, "GOTO SLEEP". A magic potion that would prevent such a secreetion would be a real breakthrough! Though, a Phisiology professional would provide you with greater detals on the matter... (but for this idea alone I'd appreciate if you cut me in for 25% of the royalties!) In the meantime, I suggest you stop sharing any more details about the matter, just in case -- keep it strictly between us! Writing it would be enjoyable. It would be even more enjoyable if I had a scientific mind full of information on how the brain functions let alone the body beyond my basic understandings. Once I written such a story then we worry about publishing it. That is a whole new can of worms to worry about. Which grumpy and miserable editor or publisher will even read the first two lines of your story? In today's times if one didn't have sex with the president or president's wife, discovered an alternative to quicker space flight, or run 2 miles in 4 minutes then the chances are as good as trying to win the local lottery unless you are somekind of superstar already, yet if I ever do publish a book in such a magnitude in my lifetime then 25% of royalty shares will come your way *** Oh, thank you very much, dear, for accepting my modest offer! I was afraid your depiction of the horrors (associted with publishing the book) were meant for me, i.e. to reduce my expectatiions... In return, I'm going make you a deal: instead of 25%, I agree for just 23.9%, which is quite generous -- considering my involvement in the ptoject: 1. consultant's fee! {after all, I have a few tricks up my sleeve..} 2. my assistance with the sleeping arrangements might come in handy -- regarding your comment about the difficulties associated with publishing... (I am not sure whether the president's wife can be talked into sleeping with me, but I'm sure the president won't be able to resist my charm... So, here are a few more ideas to consider: 1. THALAMUS is a paired symetrical part of the brain that is known to relay and integrate the sensory information impulses to the Cerebral Cortex for interpretation. Together with HYPOTALAMUS, the THALAMUS establishes levels of sleep & wakefulness. It secretes the chemical DOPAMINE into the brain that makes us goto sleep... Thus, some remedy against such seretion of that chemical (or some sort of a blocking mechanizm -- preventing the chemical from entering the brain -- must be devised.. avoiding the usual side effects!) However, our plans might be a bit premature because scientists have discovered that the patterns of the molecular evolution in many of the human genes DO NOT contain signals of Natural Selection! * * * According to Matthew Webster of the Department of Medical Biochemistry & Microbiology at Uppsala University, "the research not only increases our understanding of Human evolution, but also suggest that many techniques used by evolutionary biologists to detect selection MAY BE FLAWED"!!! * * * Another words, SOME OF THE GENES APPEAR TO BE BUILT-IN*** The working model of our endeavor has to take these discoveries into consideration... For if it will be confirmed -- that some genes are Built-in -- then the next question would be BY WHOM? ? ? * * * |

I think its highly possible that there are Earth like planets with humans like us on them. I not only think it's possible, but would be impossible that somewhere in the universe there are human like us. Over 300 extrasolar planets have been discovered and in our galactic neighborhood. I think that means our solar system isn't unique, therefore must be innumerable other planets similar to ours. Humans like us? May be human-like (i.e. resembling humans), but the likelihood of aliens being human like us is highly improbable! Even if the seed of life had ever been implanted on this planet, the natural process of Evolution has taken its course, influencing the development of species... It would be highly improbable (though o.ooo1% Not impossible) the same conditions occurred somewhere else in space -- though the similarities might actually be striking! |

Personally, Smiless, I am very greatful to you for providing a great reference! (which basically supports the idea of the untapped resources -- an immense super powers hidden within the human brain! I only wish I had more time for injesting everything... However, as you admite,
If only we didn't need to sleep then more knowledge could be gathered in our lifetimes. ....
Then, maybe the source of the problem of perceiving various theories (and becomming a better/powerful human) lies precisely in that: conquering the need to sleep?!!! (or discovering a natural method which would replace or at least shorten the time necessary for bio-system's regeneration!!(?) For it is really mind boggling: we waste at least 1/3 of our lives doing nothing but sleep, i.e. 8 hour/day * 30 days/month * 12 months = 2880 hours/year = 120 days/year!!! I.E. if one is lucky to live up to 90 years old, that means 30 of those years were spent sleeping!!! I wonder why hasn't science come up with anything acceptable, yet (i.e. without any side effects..) Such an endaevor would be equivalent to the discovery of electricity... I've heard of some people who can manage with only 4 hours of sleep! (and the prisoners at the concentration camps weren't aloud more than 2 hours of sleep. not to mention lack of propper food...) Seems like the length of night sleep is a matter of habbit? (On the other hand, it might be a bit expensive staying awake an extra 8 hours/day, i.e. 120 days/year -- since more resources will have to be consumed) * * * But that would be compensated with increased productivity...(?) {thanks god, TV is on 24/7 } Also, much time is wasted on replenishing the bio-system's energy resources, i.e. consumption of food (not to mention that of getting rid of waste...) Certaily, only "Creative" (or really desperate) people would want to relieve themselves of such a nuisance as sleep... Nevertheless, it would be nice to have access to "Sleepless" pills!! P.S. The movie, "Sleepless in Seatle" would have to be renamed to something like "Excited in Seatle"... |

These are all very interesting replies. I do not know the author's stance on Chaos Theory and the Laws of attraction. What I can tell you is that this writer is an agnostic scientist who actually specializes his studies in biology and the important significance of how to improve our thinking and understanding about it. Here is the chapter outline: Chapter 1 - he discusses about "smart cells" and why and how they can teach us so much about our own minds and bodies. Chapter 2 - he lays out the scientific evidence to show how genes do not control biology. He also introduces exciting discoveries of epigenetics, which is a new field of biology that is unraveling the mysteries of how the environment (nature) influences the behavior of cells without changing the genetic code. Chapter 3 - he talks about the cell membrane, the skin of the cell. He concludes that the membrane is the true brain of the cellular operation. Chapter 4 - he talks about mind bending discoveries of quantum physics. He mentions about those discoveries that have profound implications for understanding and treating diseases. Chapter 5 - he explains why he titled his book - The Biology of Belief Chapter 6 - he reveals why cells and people need to grow and how fear shuts down that growth. Chapter 7 - this is a chapter that focuses on the significance of conscious parenting. The reason why I bought this book in the first place as I always strive to be a better parent. Then he ends with this: Are you ready to use your conscious mind to create a life overflowing with health, happiness, and love without the aid of genetic engineers and without addicting yourself to drugs? Are you ready to consider an alternate reality to that provided by the medical model of the human body as a biochemical machine? There is nothing to buy, and there are no policies to take out. It is just a matter of temporarily suspending the archaic beliefs you have acquired from media establishments so that you can consider the exciting new awareness offered by leading edge science. What I do realize is that our body is like a universe of its own. The trillions of cells that flow through us each have their specific tasks and our influenced by our thoughts ( I am not saying consciously all of them are influenced either). I actually believe that if we understand more about how our body works as of the mind we can actually improve our lives for the better. If it is called chaos theory, laws of attraction, or the boogie man syndrom then so be it. I think biology, understanding the human anatonomy, and trying to understand thought processes can make a difference. Of course one is only overwhelmed with the information available to us. Just go to a bookstore or research on the internet and you will have enough information to study for a lifetime. I think what is logically fitting is to take the best of all of the books you do read and combine what works best for you in one complete package. If only we didn't need to sleep then more knowledge could be gathered in our lifetimes. .... |

____________INTIMATE FRIENDSHIP_________(2006)
We're getting close much too fast And disregarding limits and restriction... But, contrary to my initial conviction, I fear loosing you in depths of lust!!! I cherrish sweet togetherness we share, Yet, I'm not ready for a major plunge... Don't tempt me, darling, I don't dare To burn the bridges of retreat behind! This tender intimacy mixed with friendship Is all that I can share (now)... But even that, my charm, is more than you can handle Until your heavens cleared off the "stormy clouds"! (i.e.divorce) Oh, I wish we could just leave the world behind, Take all worries out of our minds, Spread our wings and fly so far away... (Well, I guess, you know, dear, what I mean to say!) . . . . . . . . . . . P.S. Don't give me reasons to impress you And don't impress me, darling, please. Don't let me kiss you and carress you For I don't know where will all that lead... |

There are alot of living cells in us ensuring our well being. You would be surprised how much our thoughts can influence these little cells in a profound way. What are your thoughts about this? I'm gonna take it even further: There are some people -- commonly referred to as MENTALISTS -- who are capable of performing mental tricks in public: i.e. mentally lowering the temperature of their body, increasing or decreasing their heart beat rate, relieving themselves off the pain, i.e. head-ache, skin punctures, etc. . Eventually, most of people will possess such an ability! Mental Powers will become more important than then Muscle Power... AND I WONDER: HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE HUMAN BEINGS TO DEVELOP THE ABILITY OF AFFECTING THE PHYSICAL WORLD ? |

Is the human mind anything more than a chemical binary computer?
Obviously, Free Will is equivalent to anything more than a simple Ability of making decisions! (i.e. accepting the input, processing it, and feeding the outcome back to the Input -- a recursive process, so to speak. The similarity with the computer is clear. And in that sense, the human mind is not different. But *computer has no choice over the kind of input it gets (and puts)*, whereas the human mind is exercising the free will to select the kind of input that is read into it, and, consequently, the mind's output determines our individuality! Therefore, it would be too simplistic to consider the human mind as anything more than just a chemical binary computer... (because the latter doesn't have a choice, i.e. free will) * * * The number of the outside stimuli (that serve as Input) actually are infinit, but the Input, usually, falls into a finit number of categories -- human consciousness tends to sort all of that input into departments -- which makes the process of analysing the input managable... Such abstact thinking -- categirising and departamentalising, in addition to the ability of recreating conditions that are necessary for deriving a certain outcome -- is what distinquishes Human beings from the rest of the living creatures! Therefore, at the present level of our development, all of the lower level species are considered of little/no consequence! We haven't progressed far enough yet for affecting the outcome of (a) Global nature, not to mention that of the (b) Gallactical and (c) Universal... But that -- b and c -- is the subject of a far distant future that's simply beyond of our comprehension... |

Gentlemen, frankly, I'm surprized at you: YOU'VE STARTED A GREAT DISCUSSION ABOUT NATURE OF UNIVERSE and got side-tracked by SIMPLE SEMANTICS -- free will, etc... For the sake of the argument, it will be much more reasonable to substitute the terms: *--> I propose: Instead of "FREE WILL", use RANDOM ELEMENT * * * *** Then the definition would be more acceptable: * * *THE UNIVERSE IS DETERMINISTIC BUT INCLUDES A RANDOM ELEMENT! * * * ...O'K, Jeremy, from this standpoint, you were saying. . . |
