As a smoker I am biased, but I consider myself to be a responsible smoker - I try not to let my habit interfere with others, hence my stance and the fact that we are being singled out for the new tax just adds to my opinion - leave me alone with my habit and I will leave you and your habit alone. Just venting again sad

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and is a major cause of disability.

High cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, tobacco, and secondhand smoke are also risk factors associated with heart disease.

And i agree 100%.flowerforyou

Besides, i don't see where its the government's business to act as our parents anyhow.

Besides, malnutrition is labeled as the number 2 killer in the U.S.

Because the government and tax payers are picking up the medical bills for us smokers??

the Supreme Court reviews the laws passed by Congress. if they don't overturn it. it must be Constitutional

The supreme court is lead by persons appointed through a POLITICAL system...

Look at the past several years of decisions by that body and even a person not familiar with the law can see the POLITICAL choices made by these judges.

Tax policy is formulated by ELECTED representatives. If you don't like the current tax policy, support a candidate that feels the same way and/or vote against against your current representation. Once you've garnered enough support in the appropriate legislature, you will have the power to change policy.

As for my opinion on tobacco taxes, the higher the better. Tobacco, with it's known health detriments, would never be allowed on the market were it to be a new product. So be happy you can legally buy smokes at any price.

I have no sympathy for smokers. All you need to do is Q-U-I-T. Tax problem solved.

P.S. Smoking ain't nothing but suicide on the installment plan.

Oh Jimmy, most of us (better yet) I do vote according to the issues and what they stand for while running for office, but guess what, once in office I have no say.

The remainder of your post, bah humbug, why should I quit because you say so, tax alcohol, tax people who use blue ink instead of black ink or vice versa, there is a multitude of others that can generate taxed income.

Regardless of whether you believe or can prove that I am killing myself, what does that have to do with you? Am I not responsible for my actions that you feel (meaning non smokers) can take over and make decisions for me?

there are MANY things unhealthy as well. but i am an adult and can make up my own mind. not to mention....when everyone stops smoking....what will they tax next to pay for the SCHIP? what about all the jobs lost when the factories close?

I have never asked for sympathy from anyone for choices i make...because they are my choices and i can own up to them

I smoke and I'm not angry about the cig. tax that starts tomorrow.

I am not angry about it either...

I am worried because it is a sign, a warning of what is to come...

When they tax the length of your hair. (if you got it)...

and then tax the amount of shine from your bald (if you don't)...

When tax is applied to the number of steps you take or how much air you breath so they can recoup the losses suffered by printing paper...

It will be to late to do something about it then.

For those that claim that smoking is the #1 cause of death in the us...

I notice that the #1 cause changes depending on the agenda of the person making the claim.

Some have claimed it was alcohol realted traffic accidents that are #1...
Some of claimed it was drugs that were number 1...

The truth is that LIFE is the leading cause of DEATH...

Any other claim is poppycock and manuevering, manuiplation and in some cases outright lies.

If you live you will eventually die in this world (it is the way of things).

We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. In the meantime, you addicts will help fund medical treatment for kids. The kids thank you.
