not to worry...when we all quit...they will come after you next

You're all addicts. You CAN'T quit. The falloff will be so gradual that we can just keep hiking the tax to make up for the scant few of you who have the willpower to wise up and quit. We'll be able to rely on this revenue for decades.

The kids thank you.

we CAN quit if we DECIDE to. guess what....they just might raise gas prices or your "occasional" alcohol if they can't get taxes from people that do quit...not to mention the unemployment

sorry...I don't need to report to anyone. I'm not looking to quit this second. when I do...then I do. but many are ready to quit due to the taxes...or until they can't afford it

My father tells me this often. He says, "You don't see old people smoking. Do you know why? They're not alive. The cigs killed them."

Just food for thought.

As a smoker I am biased, but I consider myself to be a responsible smoker - I try not to let my habit interfere with others, hence my stance and the fact that we are being singled out for the new tax just adds to my opinion - leave me alone with my habit and I will leave you and your habit alone. Just venting again sad

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and is a major cause of disability.

High cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, tobacco, and secondhand smoke are also risk factors associated with heart disease.

And i agree 100%.flowerforyou

Besides, i don't see where its the government's business to act as our parents anyhow.

Besides, malnutrition is labeled as the number 2 killer in the U.S.

Because the government and tax payers are picking up the medical bills for us smokers??

Kat

Then they make health requirements in order to cover you financially...?

Either way, this is the first thing we need to address. The Federal Government also has no business in running schools or hospitals. That is a state's job if anything.

the Supreme Court reviews the laws passed by Congress. if they don't overturn it. it must be Constitutional

Funny thing about that. The supreme court deemed income tax as a tax on corporate gains or profits back in 1918 or 1920 (can't remember) and if you weren't taxable before 1913 (when the federal income tax was enstated) then you aren't taxable afterwards. Basically the supreme court says you and i don't have to pay income tax.

Makes you wonder who's really pulling the strings huh?

Another interesting bit of info. The IRS is not part of the government. They are an agency created by our central bank.

Sorry had to throw that in there.

I don't have a problem with luxury tax or sales tax. Ido have a problem on property taxes, income taxes, several thousand dollar permits for building on your property, vehicle registration, etc.

If our government would simply get rid of our national bank, and then our national debt, you could completely eleminate income tax. If they actually spent money wisely, you could eliminate most of the other taxes. Neat huh?

I'm getting confused about this tax. I've received several different answers around here.

A few weeks ago a carton of cigs went up $6.00. The smoke shop said that it was the new tax. I told them it was supposed to start April 1. They said it happened early.

The other day I buy a carton at another smoke shop. Their shelves were almost empty. They said the tax starts April 1. They were clearing their shelves because they would be taxed on what they had on the shelves on April 1. They said the $6.00 increase that started a few weeks ago was a manufacturer's increase.

Then I asked a store today how much a pack of cigs were. They said that the tax hasn't happened yet.

So...the way that I'm seeing it...possibly ...the carton went up $6.00 from a manufacturer's increase and a tax may still occur on top of that.
