I sure hope that nobody recognizes their profile on here. I never use profiles from this site. As a matter of common courtesy, I think it would be insensitive and inappropriate to bash one of our own. I also never use profiles from here. And I try to make a point to use profiles from people who are not active on the site from which I take them. However having sorted through a few of these I doubt they have ever even read their own profiles much less would recognize them on a different site. You guys are true gentlemen!   I'm not exactly a box of rocks on the intelligence scale, but I'm pretty sure you could find PLENTY of idiocy in my profile...so thanks for giving me a break! (To be fair...writing about yourself is HARD!)

As a matter of common courtesy, I think it would be insensitive and inappropriate to bash one of our own. I also never use profiles from here. And I try to make a point to use profiles from people who are not active on the site from which I take them. However having sorted through a few of these I doubt they have ever even read their own profiles much less would recognize them on a different site. You guys are true gentlemen! Well regardless, after reading through these and of course laughing so hard my face hurts, I have become rather self-conscious about my own profile and went back over it hoping to correct some of the mistakes I observed in this thread. LOL

But that's more related to the whole idea that so many people use the same phrases, ad nauseum, in profiles. If there's a message buried somewhere far beneath this whole thread it's this: When I read a profile, I want to know something about the person that wrote it. And I'm not entirely sure that an interminable series of passe cliches that have been used by a billion other people, in the exact same phraseology, is the best way to achieve that. In other words, if I want to know about someone, I want to know about them -- not about which words they've seen repeated over and over again in an infinite number of other profiles.... |
