I sit in silent wonder, to put my thoughts to ink
For lost in my confusion, it always helps me think
A better understanding, is reason for my rhyme
And though I may learn nothing, it does help pass the time

I'm not the worlds richest man, the thought just makes me smile
I'm surely not the poorest, for I can share a smile
And if I had the riches, that so many others crave
Like them, it would be hard to smile, just another slave

Me, I'd always share my wealth, with any man in need
Instead of living off his pain, to wallow in my greed
I'd rather have a simple life, make other people smile
Seek to clean the air we breathe, not worry what's in style

And what is with our government, always preaching fear?
Always raising taxes, and their spending every year
Why must there always be a need, to start another war?
Why can't we take those billions, and start to feed the poor?

Build houses for the homeless, and educate a child
Instead of killing thousands, and say it makes us proud
Wave a flag, we can't salute, then take away the Lord
From state, and church, and home and school, My God! They must be bored!

And how are we supposed to live, with prices on the rise?
Fire all those bureucrats, hire someone wise!
Someone who knows morals, and nobility of cause
Not some jerk who thinks himself, disasters Santa Clause!

Lets do away with money, and pay our way with deeds
Then see how life progresses, and who has special needs
Let's do away with food stamps, put pride into our farms
Start growing food for people, instead of building arms!

It's sad to think our soldiers die, for rights we can't employ
Like liberty and happiness, pursuits we can't enjoy
Our leaders take us deeper, and deeper into debt
And tell us to feel safer, with the little that we get

As usual, I'm still confused, yet put my thoughts to pen
I tell myself "I am but one, where can I begin?"
And now that I have written, I'll end it with this note
I may be poor, and only one, BUT I STILL HAVE A VOTE!

i love that! absolutely wonderful. thank you for the other one also.

Things Worth Remembering

Of things felt worth remembering, my list is truly long
From moments of my childhood, to that last good book or song
The first things that I found I liked, and those liked not so well
My first attempts at trying things, the many times I failed

My first view of an ocean, and climbing my first tree
The little boy that lived next door, always teasing me
The first time I saw Santa, that first bright Christmas tree
The joy I felt to look beneath, and find a gift for me

The first day spent away at school, it seemed so far from home
Learning how to write my name, and reading my first poem
My first new box of crayons, and all the things I drew
The smile I put on mommy's face, when saying "IT'S FOR YOU!"

The first time that I fell in love, the girl I took to prom
Meeting friends from other lands, and learning where they're from
My many, many questions, always asking why
I always thought it seemed unfair, that people couldn't fly

Then my childhood ended, I went away to war
The wonders of my happy life, replaced by fears and horror
I lost my hope and freedom, when they told me I must go
To take up arms, and hate a man, I didn't even know

No more simple answers, to my simple question "why?"
For who can answer simply, why another man should die?
Why should I, who have no cause, to hate this foreign man
Think that I might have that right, when I invade his land

So yes I will remember, for I have earned that right
And I will always question, when we send our boys to fight
Who are these men who start these wars, and what's their reasons why
And why are they not right up front, when bullets start to fly?

My list will still continue, for I am blessed with life
Valuing the simple things, remembering the strife
And when I am complaining, of something I have lost
I'll think, and pause, to say a prayer, for those who paid the cost

Whether his citizenship is of importance or not, i still wonder what people see in him. What has he changed in the big picture so far? How has he stood up for the republic? What has he done to help us economically?

Here's a biggy...what plans did he ever have that would "change" our country and how we live?

I don't seem to remember getting an answer before.

There are so many arguments against him, and so many for him. Just like Bush, Clinton, Bush, Regan, Carter, etc.

My problem is that people focus more on form allegiences with parties more than they focus on the individuals themselves. They also focus more on finding ways to blame eachother instead of researching the source of the problems we are having.

Forget completely about what the democrats say, or the republicans, or anyone on the news.

We all seem to agree there is something wrong with this country. Start with the symptoms, then seek out the disease. Then you seek treatments.

And how long has he been President? And you're asking, "What has he changed in the big picture so far?" He just started the job. Let's give him a chance.

Look at his legislation my friend. Look at his ideas. This is what i ask. Don't work so hard to judge, just seek solutions on your own.

It's no use arguing. Those who hate him are going to hate him no matter what they do. They're not going to give him a chance to do anything. They're going to assume since he was not able to perform magic and clean up everything from the very beginning that he's not a good president. Apparently he was supposed to perform a miracle as soon as he took office.

I am convinced many who continuously support him, would do so even after he damages us more than Bush did...

How was i spreading hate? Please ladies, this is an honest question...

I didn't say anything about hate. I did say that it seems as though you were expecting him to fix everything right away and since he hasn't been able to do that, people are now trying to say "I told you so." Also, you keep making assumptions about those of us who support Obama. It seems as though you're assuming we're all the same.

Well, he's passed a lot of legislation. This legislation is (a lot of it) is practically a mirror for the previous Bush administration. I know it's early, and he could be just playing it safe. But I want people to stop turning to him to solve our problems because he won't. We need to push him to do the right thing, not the other way around.

Yes, it will get worse before it gets better.

We knew that before the election.

CORRECT!!!drinker drinker

If people actually did research they would know Obama has made no mention of a plan to make things better. But he is not responsible. Nor is Bush.

You gotta dig deep to find our country's flaws. They all stem from our economic system that's nearly 100 years old!

So I voted for Bush in 2000. I didn't vote for him in 2004 although I wasn't big on Kerry either.

But over the past 8 years, I've seen Bush's policies where the well off get even more well off, and those at the bottom have it harder.

I voted for Obama in 2008. And I think he's trying to do the best with what is clearly a bad situation. Is he perfect? No...but at least he's trying. Its better than doing nothing.

And what about the Aunt that is here Illegally???

Unless someone can prove that he brought his Aunt here and harbored her as an illegal I don't see why you are trying to pin this on him?

I am pretty sure we could find a black sheep in your family tree somewhere. Would you like to be persecuted for their "offenses"? I think not.
