The 1st Congress started off with Prayer. The 10 commandments untill 60 years ago was in every school house and govt. building. Prayer was at school. Our money has "in god we trust" on it and on and on.
To say this nation was not founded on the principles of chr-stianity is totally false. If our founding fathers would not of used the bible as a instruction manual on how people should be treated we would still be at war. The south would still have slavery. The Bible has built this nation and taking it out of our lives is the sole reason we have everyone crying that they are abused and in doing so we are slowly killing ourselves. Congresses prayer as it is still done to this day. First Prayer of the Continental Congress, 1774 The Prayer in the First Congress, A.D. 1774 O Lord our Heavenly Father, high and mighty King of kings, and Lord of lords, who dost from thy throne behold all the dwellers on earth and reignest with power supreme and uncontrolled over all the Kingdoms, Empires and Governments; look down in mercy, we beseech Thee, on these our American States, who have fled to Thee from the rod of the oppressor and thrown themselves on Thy gracious protection, desiring to be henceforth dependent only on Thee. To Thee have they appealed for the righteousness of their cause; to Thee do they now look up for that countenance and support, which Thou alone canst give. Take them, therefore, Heavenly Father, under Thy nurturing care; give them wisdom in Council and valor in the field; defeat the malicious designs of our cruel adversaries; convince them of the unrighteousness of their Cause and if they persist in their sanguinary purposes, of own unerring justice, sounding in their hearts, constrain them to drop the weapons of war from their unnerved hands in the day of battle! Be Thou present, O God of wisdom, and direct the councils of this honorable assembly; enable them to settle things on the best and surest foundation. That the scene of blood may be speedily closed; that order, harmony and peace may be effectually restored, and truth and justice, religion and piety, prevail and flourish amongst the people. Preserve the health of their bodies and vigor of their minds; shower down on them and the millions they here represent, such temporal blessings as Thou seest expedient for them in this world and crown them with everlasting glory in the world to come. All this we ask in the name and through the merits of Jesus Christ, Thy Son and our Savior. Amen. Reverend Jacob Duché Blessings...Miles |

Some may have TURNED Christianity into a religion.... some may even LABEL christianity as a religion... but TRUE Christianity IS NOT about Religion....at ALL!!! Christianity is a LIFESTYLE. Christianity is about RELATIONSHIP. Back with God. We join JESUS when we become a Christian....NOT a religion!!! And that is why TRUE Christians point people to Jesus, and NOT their church!! Or denomination!!! You don't join a religion when you become a christian... you JOIN JESUS!!!! Now granted... there are some churches, that have you JOIN their church.... but that does NOT make you a christian...just because you join their church membership. And sadly....some "christians" may just warm church pews every sunday in some churches ..... and call themselves christians.... but until Jesus is living in their hearts... they are NOT even christians atall. They just have religion then...nothing more |

Again.....we are a Christian nation that ALLOWS freedom of religion for all.... Excuse me? We are not a Christian nation! We are a non-religious nation that allows all citizens the freedom of personal religion. Statistically the vast majority of the religions are various Christian denominations and sects, none of whom are in agreement with each other! In fact, the only reason that Chrsitainity can claim to be the largest religion in the world is because when they take the stats they count all the various denominations of Protestantism and Catholicism as one religion "Christainity" and then they divide up all the pantheistic relgions into their various sects. In truth if we just compared Christianity with Pantheism, then Pantheism would be the largest religion in the world. In fact, I think the Pantheists should start complaining about how the the stats are being recorded because in truth, Pantheism is the largest faith in the world and Christianity is actually second. In fact, if we divide Christianity up into two groups: the orthodox Christians (those who believe in Chruchianity), and the Designer Christians (those who have denounced the church to invent their own personal walk with God in the name of Jesus), then we'd see that the largest religion in the world is actually Designer Christianity. Most Designer Christians have no problem with gay marriage, and they accept evolution, and stem cell research. They don't proselyize, and they respect the faiths of religious faiths. In other words, the Designer Christians are the only ones who actully follow the teaching of Jesus. That's why they denounce the oraganized religion of "Churchianity". Just like Jesus did. |

Reverend Jacob Duché Blessings...Miles Thats because this is "special history" taken from a Christian right website. Yes, there were Christian men among the Founders. Just as Congress removed Thomas Jefferson's words that condemned the practice of slavery in the colonies, they also altered his wording regarding equal rights. His original wording is here in bold italics: "All men are created equal and independent. From that equal creation they derive rights inherent and inalienable." Congress changed that phrase, increasing its religious overtones: "All men are created equal. They are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights." |

If our founding fathers would not of used the bible as a instruction manual on how people should be treated we would still be at war
Miles, if our Founding Fathers were Christians, we would have never decided to break from English rule. "For rebellion as is the sin of witchcraft." 1 Samuel, 15:23 Would they have initiated a rebellion if indeed they thought it was equal to witchcraft (a crime punishable by death)? But that's only the tip of the iceberg. The New Testament gives clear instructions to Christians on how to behave when ruled under a monarchy, as were the Founders. 1 Peter 2:13: "For the Lord's sake accept the authority of every human institution, whether of the emperor as supreme, or of governors, as sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right." The Founders clearly did not heed what was written in the bible. If they were in fact "good" Christians, there would never have been an American Revolution. Compare the above passages with the Declaration of Independence: "...when a long train of abuses and usurpations... evinces a design to reduce (the people) under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security..." Anyone who can think for themselves can see that the Founders were not Christians. |

Jeannie....you ask WHY so many attend this nondenominational church?
(actually ...church is not the right word..cause believers are what make up the TRUE church...and is NOT actually a building at all). Jeannie....People are HUNGRY. THIRSTY. FOR TRUTH!! People are SICK and TIRED of DEAD Religion !! And people are sick and tired of CHURCHIOLOGY (dead "christian" religion .... with no power of God..or Jesus anywhere in sight..just religion). THAT is Why , Jeannie. Again...True Christianity is about Relationship.... Relationship back with God.... thru accepting His Son Jesus(Yeshua)..Our Saviour..... and is Not about Religion...at all..and Never WAS about Religion. Man did that!!! |

Our money has "in god we trust" on it and on and on.
Prove that was a referance to the god of the bible and I will give you a cookie. Ceremonial deism is a legal term used in the United States for nominally religious statements and practices deemed to be merely ritual and non-religious through long customary usage. Proposed examples of ceremonial deism include the reference to God introduced into the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954, and the phrase "In God We Trust" on U.S. currency. |

a weak or strong atheist - that's funny in all seriousness - i'd say 'atheism' is a growing trend among the people today. Considering that nearly 66% of the planets population are either atheists or hindu - though i'm not sure what the numbers are for just atheists. anyone know the population of china? I personally believe that the vast majority of humans on the planet are pantheists. Many of them don't even realize it. Many people who call themselves atheists are actually open to some form of pantheism and just don't realize it because they don't truly understand the view. It would seem to me that if any intelligent person who had never been exposed to any preconcieved notion were given the following three choices and asked which choice was the most beautiful, they'd have to choose pantheism. 1. Atheism 2. Pantheism 3. The Mediterranean picture of God. (the Bible, Koran, or Torah). Without a doubt, of these three choices, the second choice is the most beautiful. The first choice says there is no spiritual aspect to life and we all just cease to exist when we die. The second choice says that we all win. We are all spirit and we all go back to the creator when we leave the physical world. The third choices says that God is an egotistical judgmental pig and will torture the vast majortity of humans for all eternity. Which one would you choice is it was your choice? |

Abe Lincoln was another Deist! His former law partner, William Herndon, said of him after his assassination: "[Mr. Lincoln] never mentioned the name of Jesus, except to scorn and detest the idea of a miraculous conception. He did write a little work on infidelity in 1835-6, and never recanted. He was an out-and-out infidel, and about that there is no mistake." He also said that Lincoln "assimilated into his own being" the heretical book Age of Reason by Thomas Paine. |
