Yeah...I guess that's exactly what I was talking about. You get ignored when you were trying to be sincere. It tends to make you more aloof than ever...

Peaple tell me " you seem pensive today"

Oh yeah? hmmmmmm...

I think a huge part of that is just knowing who you can interact with and who is only interested in remaining within their clique....

And that's hard to tell, sometimes, unless you've made the attempt to talk to them....

But, like a lot of things, I think it all comes down to knowing the terrain -- and that takes a little time.

Oh pooh on knowing terrain! laugh If you trend where you aren't suppose to... they will let you know! laugh

But in all serious, sometimes it just best to stick to newly made threads or threads where you know a couple people who are regular posters.... that way you know you will have people to chat with... and hopeful new people to chat with too!

Maybe it's just me -- but there are only a few small groups that actively avoid and ignore me here -- and a couple of those groups have a member or two who will talk to me anyway -- so maybe I'm not getting the full brunt of the cliquosity anymore, I don't know....

tend to avoid cliques of any type. If someone started a thread based on all or any of my favorite things, I think I'd avoid it unless it was obviously welcoming to everyone.

So yeah...I do boycotte some threads, and some members. I'm sure they aren't losing any sleep over it though...

while i certainly avoid some threads (namely the TPAYs and the games section just because i think they are pointless and a waste of a post), i can't say that i boycotte certain people.

i truthfully can't say that i see cliques and/or that certain people are excluded. maybe i just don't pay that much attention, or maybe it's because i just assume the 'cliques' are rather 'friendships' based mostly on the length of time the posters have been members of the site.

Is there really anything to be gained by seeking to be popular on an internet site?

Sincere question here...

Before I came to the internet I never even wondered about popularity. I grew up in such a small community that with 112 kids k-12 somehow that just didnt' apply. So to be really honest I don't put people on my friends list unless I like and respect them. I also don't care how popular I am if I can content and happy with the friends I have. I am always open to making new friends everyday.

I post on whatever topic catches my eye... sadly that isn't many, since most are just people butt slapping each other internet style.

Sad to see some people are as petty on the internet as they are in their real lives. But hey i'm new here.. so bite me flowerforyou

For the most part has been "interesting" so far.

Needing popularity, is just needing anothers opinion, or acceptance, that matches your own to make your own existence valid.
There is a "bad" popular, the type that will change there own behavior to mimic whats likes are current and what makes someone like them more.
And i guess a good popular would be just being yourself and having that certain "glow" that attracts interest to a select few..but imho...your only as popular as the long as people agree with you.

Britney spears is popular to the world, but im sure now she would just like be popular with a few good people heh
