It's up to you though. I make a lot of posts, and have made some awesome friends, but I don't know if I'd be considered popular or not.  That's an interesting point -- how do you determine who's popular and who's not? I mean, theoretically, you could have someone who had made many posts but who people didn't particularly like. So I don't know that number of posts is an indicator of popularity -- longevity, maybe, or long-windedness, sure, but not necessarily popularity. |

I mean, not too many people genuinely are interested in attention whores. i think there's a huge difference between being popular and being an attention whore. one comes naturally, the other is strived.

Is there really anything to be gained by seeking to be popular on an internet site? Sincere question here... Trying to be "popular" in any community usually is a wasted effort in my book. Blending in, expressing yourself, not saying anything that is too stupid or makes you look like a creep is probably going to help more than being popular. I see having my name on popularity "lists" is usually more harm than good. |

Good point, Lex...it's all about the quality..not the quantity! Yeah, I mean, think about it: When I think of this site, there are certain people whose names, pics, posts, etc., immediately spring to mind. There are people who, in my mind, sort of "represent" this site -- not officially, but as "standards," I guess you could call it. And some of these people I consider friends, and I make an effort to read anything and everything they write. And others I really don't interact with much at all, but they've established a presence here and I'm aware of them. Who's "popular" with me might not be the same as who's "popular" with you. I think it's better that way, too, otherwise it all gets a little too regimented for me.... |
