My Life Chakra

I'm calling my "Root Chakra" my "Life Chakra", because to me it represents the foundation of the pyhsical body.

As strange as this may sound I feel a need to identify with my Chakras. I've been doing a Charkra Meditation with the Penczak guided meditation on CD.

He uses traditional colors and so forth. I understand that there are traditions, however, from what I've seen those traditions vary wildly depending on whose web site or book you read. laugh

So, I've decided to design my own chakras and make them meaningful to me.

The base (or root) Chakra (which I am calling my "Life Chakra") represents basic survival needs, the right to exist, and primodial protection.

The traditional colors associated with the root chakra are red, brown, or sometimes black.

I allow for a lot of abstraction and thus I go with the flow. My chakra will be associated with a light red, almost pink, lotus flower, a central sphere of Smokey Quartz surrounded by sevearal pieces of Amber.

Here is a picture I created from photos of how I imagine my Life Chackra to be.

This Charkra represents my connection to the Earth Power. The Smokey Quartz crystal ball represents a connection between the physical and the divine. This is one of the standard interpretations of Smokey Quartz.

Amber represents beauty, peace, abundance, vitality and healing. Amber also represents the power of manifestation and a connection to the psychic as well, so it's a very good "gem" to have in my life Chakra.

Although Amber isn't technically a crystal, it's petrified resin. But I feel such a strong affinity for Amber that it simply must play a roll in my primordial connection to the Earth powers.

The root chakra is also associated with restful sleep, gardening, pottery, and crystal arts such as stain glass, ceramics, and pottery.

Of course many people associate their root chakra with protection and security. I perfer to focus on growth, healing, and artistic abilities including being artistic with growing plants (i.e. Gardening).

So I've fine-tuned my Life Chakra around the things that are important to me at this point in time. Chakras are always flexible and can be modified as things change. However, for now I'm tuning my chakras for what I feel is important at this point in my life.

Now I'm moving on to look into designing my next Chakra which is the spleen Chakra. I'll be calling that one my "Sensual Chakra" because one of it's main functions has to do with sex and intimacy.

I'm actually finding all of this quite useful in very complex ways that I can't easily put into words.

I think this whole year of 2009 will be an 'organizational' year for me as I learn about Witchcraft and Shamanism and begin to build a meaningful spiritual system.

Most witches won't even consider initiation until at least one year of study and organization has been achieved.

How is the spleen related to sexual intimacy? I always thought it was part of the immune system? You can live without it but it will predispose you to certain infections. huh

I just ordered these since I needed some book ends. I’m not normally super into the medieval looking stuff but these were pretty cool and not terribly expensive. They got good reviews also and a woman said she dropped one onto a hard floor and it didn’t break so they are sturdy.

The whole ideas of Chakras are psychic ideas. They are fabrications of the imagination. They do not exist in the physical body.

However, having said that, they do abstractly represent genuine biological systems. Modern medicine has indeed discovered that our body runs are a myriad of hormons, chemicals and neural pathways.

The ideas of Chakras is an idea of mentally focusing on helping hormons, biochemistry and neural pathways to develop in positive ways.

Now some people may argue that chakras are 'real'. Meaning that they actually exist in the spine in these various locations. However, when I personally hear that kind of thing that just reminds me of how easily mythologies and folklore become dogma that people start to beleive in it's own right.

I'm perferctly comfortable with chakras being an invention of the psyche. This doesn't lessen their role in reality. On the contrary, by understanding precisely what they are and why they were invented by the people who originally thought them into existence can be very enlightening, IMHO.

Now, having said all of that. The so-called "Spleen Chakra" truly doesn't have anything to do with the spleen in modern western medical terms.

In fact, is goes by many names. It has been called the following:

Spleen Chakra
Sacral Chakra
Groin Chakra
Procreation Chakra
Sexual Intimacy Chakra
And so on,...

In fact, I might just call mine the "Intimacy Chakra".

I haven't yet decided, but I do know that it will be related to matters of love, sex, and intimacy for me.

But no, these Chakras have nothing to do with modern medicine. For example the Throat Chakra is really about communication, but it's also related to repiratory functions, etc.

I think these chakras can indeed be related to both, health issues, as well as persona issues.

So there's lot of abstraction going on here.

Also, I'm not defining my Chakras to be "carved in stone". I am simply defining them for my growth period in 2009.

I may change them all around in 2010.

They are multifunctional and dynamtic.

In fact, I'm even thinking about meditating on them in different ways.

Sometimes I will view them in terms of spiritual growth, other times I may view them in terms of physical health.

Lots of abstraction going on here. bigsmile

Thanks James. That’s what I thought you meant. You were referring to the 'spleen' in very abstract terms. The only reason I know how the spleen functions in the body is I have a friend that had to have hers removed because she was in a serious car accident and her internal organs were crushed in the impact. She lived luckily but her spleen had to be removed. She just has to be careful now because her immune system is compromised.

More About Chakras

As you can see I have a current obsession with chakras. laugh

I just found these to be really intriguing and stimulating ideas. And I found that doing the Chakra meditation really leaves me feeling well rested as well as invigorated.

I realize that many people view chakras in terms of physical health. But clearly they are also related to spiritual concepts, persona, and certainly the psyche. So my current interest is more spiritual than physical, but I also associate health, healing and well-being with them as well.

The visualization of chakras appears to be important in many forms of chakra mediations. So this is why it's important to me to create these charka visualizations. I'm also learning about crystals as I do this.

Here's my own personal view of the chakra system. From the Crown to the Root.

Crown Chakra - Connection to the universal mind - Intellect & Wisdom
Mind Chakra - The mind's eye. Psychic ability, Visualization
Voice Chakra - Communication, Music, Art, Breath
Heart Chakra - Spiritual Love, Compassion & Relationships
Navel Chakra - Intuition, Nutrition, Balance & Harmony
Sacral Chakra - Sexual Intimacy, Romantic Love, Loyalty
Life Chakra - Primordial connection to Elemental powers

I think these are the names that I will use. I've noticed that the naming conventions vary depending on who's talking. laugh

I might add that I'm focused on aspects that are important for me. Creativity is very important to me. At first I was going to associate creativity with a chakra, however, I've noticed that various different people associate creativity with different chakras, and I've seen creativity associated with them all. So that's what I've decided to do. I just see all of my chakras as being centers of creativity, healing, and growth.

For me, these chakras represent an organizational scheme more than anything else. And I find it quite useful. This helps me to focus on what areas of my life I need to work on.

You would have to go and give them ideas.

They typically can't think on their own ya know.

Ok, so now you're making me see red X's. laugh

Oh I was just kidding. The Christians probably dont come look at the Other Religion forum very often anyway. They are afraid we will drink their blood or worse yet, they might enjoy the "dark side". happy
