Just saw the movie and all I can say is zzzzzzzzzzzz.Wow that was one boring movie. That movie reminded me of that other recent bomb called "the happening".Movies about people dying because of the enviroment frustrated .I am pretty good at spotting movie locations and I noticed that the train station scene was in filmed at the VIA train station in downtown Vancouver,BC Canada.I imagine alot of the film was filmed in Canada since it rains all the time in BC and it seemed to be raining alot in the movie.

That's no reason to hate a movie, because it was filmed in BC. I hate BC too, but I am entirely unbiased regarding BC-made films.

I actually enjoyed the CGI and special effects of the movie, for a remake they did a nice job.

Environmental messages might be what we actually need for a wake up call, but many minds stay closed so the more things change, the more they stay the same....

BC actually has a lot going for it in the movie industry btw... seems to be some other deeper rooted issues at hand than venting at a movie deemed for entertainment...... indifferent

It is sacrilege that they did a remake of "The Day The Earth Stood Still". That is one of my favorite sci-fi movies. It didn't need to be remade, it should have been re-released. People today seem to think that "<Blank> Movie" type movies (epic movie, disaster movie, etc) are worth watching, surely a classic could make money if it were re-released.

I think that the new "day the Earth stood still" was absolutely LAME!!!!! I think the original theme and the original story line were what they needed to stick to. They completely missed the mark on every single aspect of this film. Helen, Klatu, Gort, were ALL portrayed completely different than the original. It's just a shame that they have done this as no one will try to ever remake this film again the right way and now the movie name will be associated with a stinker rather than the original GREAT one!!!

Another example of Hollywood running out of ideas have to do remakes of old ones. It as been so long that I have seen a new and original idea for a movie and when someone as one the big studio don't want it because it's a risk they prefer to bombard us with the same old and boring themes we have seen a million times.

They should have made a movie called "The day Hollywood stood still" because that's all they have being doing in the last 20 years.

Thank god for independant and foreign films makers there at least they dare to do different things.

I want to see the remake of the day the earth stood still. Hopefully it will be nothing like the happening, or quarentine.

I haven't seen it, "yet", but I'm sure I'll be dissapointed as usual, I'm always dissapointed by remakes. But at least "it" got "the original" some attention it deserves, again, the "ideals" for the story are needed.

surprised Gort-Klatuu-Baradda-Nickto tongue2

The original The Day The Earth Stood Still is my favorite sci-fi of all time, second runner up is the first "Alien" movie, and there again..sequels where good.

Just like "King Kong" ya can't beat the "originals".....winking

Some classics update well. Such as ones with a fantastic story but the setting or situations or events in them are so dated, or typical to a time generations ago, that people have trouble relating to them.

MOST classics are classics BECAUSE they are timeless. And there is no real reason to remake them.

Remaking classic horror movies gives a 50/50 shot of something better than the original or a total bomb.

Remaking tech based classic sci-fi is usually not so bad. But remaking plot based classic sci-fi fails more than it ever works.

Remaking classic romances usually fails. Again, romances are plot based and character motivated. The writing was great. So don't mess with it. And finding actors who can pull off the classic parts is harder to do now days.

Because we have a whole **** ton of actors that are really only good at playing themselves in a variety of situations.

Wasn't impressed with the movie at all. The day the world ended made in 2001 was MUCH better then this one. But I'd wait to rent "the day the world stood still" if you can.

The OP description of the movie didn't even sound like the original I remembered watching.

So I went and looked up the original and yes, I was thinking of the correct movie. Then I looked up the new one. I never did find a good description of the new one.

But man o man man, did I find masses of people who hated it, who slammed the movie, the special effects, the actors, and pretty much everything about it.

And I was planning to give it a shot. I might be better of finding a copy of the original and showing if for our weekly movie nights instead.

or do what i did..

watch it for free on nabolister.com

that's what i always do with "ify" films.

(the basics of the original was still there... but it takes more then basics to make a fun entertaining film... instead they only seemed to paraphrased the essence of the message and story within the film while adding color ...)

I watched the movie last night and thought it was pretty decent. I never saw the original so I cannot compare the story lines.

I love Keanu Reeves so that did it for me, the man never ages he is beautiful.
