Why can't the rich pay a higher percentage of taxes than the poor???

They already do. Or they would if there weren't so many loopholes in the tax code. But then again..when the tax code is thousands upon thousands of pages long...loopholes tend to happen.

Rather than the " Spread The Wealth " doctrine....why not just implement a flat tax or something called the Fair Tax??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FairTax

I don't know much about the flat tax. I did see Obama explain some of it. He said that he favored it but it had some cons.

He said that it would not cover all of our costs i.e. roads, police, teachers. He said that the only way to do cover the costs using the flat tax would be to increase sales tax.

But think about this. Done properly, the Flat Tax/Fair Tax would, indeed, pay for all the things that are necessary. What it wouldn't pay for is all the extraneous crap that our government is currently wasting money on.

The roads aren't getting fixed as it is.

If every working American paid 10% of their income in taxes ( no exceptions, no loopholes ), and there was a ( just for the sake of argument ) 6% national Sales Tax, then our tax burden would STILL be less than it is, AND the bills would be covered.

I think a realistic ending to this "story" would be the under employed waiter or waitress smacking the crap out of anyone who would ever be so rude, after all they do not make much and havent much to lose. I bet half these people would never have the guts to be so rude in the first place. At the verry least the next time they stop back to the restauraunt you can be assured someone will spit on their foodlaugh

But it's totally ok to take money from those people because they are rich, right???

On top of the Income Tax not being legal in the first place....now it'll be ok to just take money from someone because some dude decided that they make too much and should give it to someone else.

I cannot seem to grasp the logic that makes people think this is a good idea.

I think the whole thing wouldn't be an issue at all if the candya$$e$ who have tons of money in the first place would be kind enough to distribute some to those less fortunate than themselves. But who am I right?
you are implying people should redistribute to help those in need??? for the good of others??? noway noway

Since the Clinton days, they have been taxed less with the theory they would be spending this extra money on creating jobs. But...they just kept the money.

I just mean that if I were wealthy, it would only be a good thing to share that with others less fortunate...not saying those less fortunate shouldn't work hard or get a free ride..I don't think anyone should get a free ride.

But typically when the rich "dig deep" in their pockets to share their finances, it's always for the tax write off at the end of the year...how is that really giving?

It sounds good on paper. But..that 10% would not be missed by the upper class and would kill the lower class.

Hate to tell you this. The highways in my city are being redone and expanded. lol One is closed and it's a headache.

I don't see why the rich get so many tax breaks and we don't. Friggin BS. Now it's our time... time for THEM to pay and not us.

Winx....think about it. The lower classes currently, between state and federal taxes, pay somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 percent of their income to taxes.

Are you really gonna try to convince yourself that 10% is worse than 25%???

Yeah. I guess that's what we get when I post a Wiki link to the Flat tax...lmao

The 10% is usually the number bandied about when people talk about the Flat Tax/Fair Tax. That's why I used that number.

They do!. If it were not for the individuals who worked their fingers to the bone to get to the wealthy position they hold.....USA would be bankrupt!!

It is easy to look up the tax rates...just do a google...you just might get the shock of your life......especially when you discover how many do NOT pay any taxes......

But...they don't show the true picture. There are many, many loopholes, so in actuality, they don't pay the amount of taxes shown.

lets be honest what percentage of the rich got there by working? Its far more realistic that they were born rich to begin with and claim its hard work to stay rich
