If the far-right establishment allowed McCain to select Joe Lieberman as he wanted, they would have had a formidable "Maverick" ticket and could have made a great case that they could drive bi-partisan cooperation.

Not now.

If McCain had picked Lieberman...he would have lost the vote of true Consevatives like me...socialy speaking...she's a " perfect "...10 !!!

Come on learner, the true conservatives have been just as angry as the liberals for the last eight years with the true conservatives for an additional eight years. Bush and company are not conservatives in my opinion.

True, they're neocons, but didn't the Republicans reject Newt eventually because he was a spending hawk? The biggest reason I'm voting for Obama is that I want the spending of my children and grandchildren's furture earnings on the war machine stopped.

Joe still considers himself a Dem, anyway. I doubt that he would accept the offer of V.P., even if he did want badly to be in the white house, I don't think he would actually want to be on the republican ticket.

As far as teaching creationism, there is no more proof of the viability of evolution then there is of creationism. I think neither should be taught as absolute fact, but each should be taught as popular opinions. But that's an entirely different topic, isn't it?

"[Obama] opposed the ban on partial-birth abortion -- a practice a fellow Democrat, the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan, once called "too close to infanticide." Obama strongly criticized the Supreme Court decision upholding the partial-birth ban. In the Illinois state Senate, he opposed a bill similar to the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act, which prevents the killing of infants mistakenly left alive by abortion. And now Obama has oddly claimed that he would not want his daughters to be "punished with a baby" because of a crisis pregnancy -- hardly a welcoming attitude toward new life. "

Huh. When you use words and don't cite sources it's called "plagiarism."

Silly me, it's too much to to hope for a return to the days when being conservative meant being fiscally conservative, pro states rights and respectful of individual privacy.

Some time ago the Republican Party (those crafty sob's) discovered they could wring lots of votes out of congregations by emphasizing so called moral issues. Now they've added the politics of fear to their mix!

Be afraid of terrorists!
Be afraid of gay marriage!
Be afraid of godless liberals!

The sheep bought it hook line and sinker. What has it gotten us? Well let's see we are divided as a country and nothing is getting done.

Here's a little clue for you all. You are being played like a cheap fiddle.

Be afraid of godless liberals!...ALWAYS !!...and...FOREVER !!..

I think that sex education in public schools should be limited to the scientific discussion of reproductive organs. Opinions about sexual orientation and/or perversions and/or abstinence is the responsibility of the family. Just because so many families choose not to take that responsibility doesn't mean that I want strangers cramming thoughts about sex down my children's throat at any age.

Being afraid of anything is wrong to me, and a socialist mentality. If anything, Republicans are only helping Liberals by teaching fear. There is always a more appropriate response to a difficult situation than being afraid.

Very good point! I served in 3 wars and my oldest daughter asks me about it all the time I dont teach her fear about just that there are people in the world that do wrong and we need to protect ourselves from them

Most sane people? So, because you think gay marriage is wrong, you think that those who are fine with it are not sane? And, because they're different than you, they're not normal? Seriously? Yeah, it's such a good idea to teach intolerance to kids today.
