guess it's an option many use or dont use at will, not only women biggrin

personal / impersonal - doesnt matter much to me; it's a form of contact.

like a phone call a text can be ignored or responded to at receiver's discretion winking

I used to do it Fran, but found out certain people are addicted and will send them to you all day every day. I had to stop the insanity....

bigsmile A text here and there is great. I get jokes ect on mine gives me a quick laugh or a friendly hello just letting me know they were thinking of me that is fine.

I just don't like to carry on a full conversation on one myself. My kids are great at it they can send a message in a heartbeat. Shhshshs it takes me forever to text something out guess that is why I just don't care for them. lol

I just spent 4 hours texting a guy last night. To me it is easier and cheaper then talking on my cell.

This is very common with alot of the women I meet.
We text a few messages and when I call she won't answer but will text back saying she's busy with something and can't talk but only text. Is this common?

usually its the only way I can get a word in....laugh

*shrug*

Depends on who the person is...

Some people will try to make a 1 minute conversation last 5 hours.... I put the phone down and walk away and wished I texted them a few short statements.

Others text all day every day as if I have nothing better to do than text back and forth..
that person I'll call to ask if they have someone else they'd like to bother for the moment.

I don't care to talk on the phone sometimes because I dislike forced conversation ..... but talking on the phone prevents people from texting me forwarded messages and jokes. I FORBID people to forward things by text or email...LOL.

All of that simply to restate my first sentence...
it depends on who the person is that I'm corresponding with.

In my experience, it's so they can still post to the forums, check the message boards, talk to the cute guy in the chat window, and still video conference with that other person, while they are texting you.

Not looking at anyone in particular! whoa waving

Um, I DON'T text when I am in a video conversation with a certain little person.

Also, I text when I am at work or my friends are at work. Co-workers don't need to know our business.

ALSO, it's a little more personal. I can say things in a text to a certain person that I can not say over a phone, especially since people seem to always catch me at a bad time, like when I am at a laundromat or the grocery store. (You are a witness to this....)

Now, while I agree with my father and some members here, with texts, you can not hear the emotion behind the text. There have been times where my crude humor has been taken as an insult.

I have had a few fights with my dad about this.

And sometimes I just want to send a quick thinking of you, but not have a whole full blown conversation.

And, seeing as most my family and friends live not only in other states, but COUNTRIES as me, it is easier to text than to call when they are at work or at dinner or whatever.

I usually send a text to ask if it is okay to call within a few minutes of texting.
