good post V, you were a wonderful moderator, and host, good job not interfering or going off the edge - hahaha

what is your next topic not going to be about??laugh flowerforyou

Well, this one is far from over. It will kick into hyperdrive very shortly. I feel it!!!

As for my next one, as I inferred earlier, IT will be about...

... 'BEING RELIGIOUS' and,

... 'being religious about NOT BEING RELIGIOUS' !!!

AS IT IS FOR THIS THREAD,

NO ONE WILL FOLLOW THE DIRECTION OF THE OP,

... such that we will end-up totally 'OFF-TOPIC', talking about...

... the 'HISTORY OF RELIGIONS'!!!

hmm? i think i already commented on the history of religions but that might have been a diff. post, somewhere i said the earliest religion or religious icon that has been found is the goddess religion and the small statue is carbon dated at around 30,000 yrs old, no other religions can date themselves to be that old, before that they were from 8 to 12,000 yrs, quite a spread.

now the statue does not mean that it can be supported by any writings attached to it, but the mere fact that it is that old gives credence to someone worshipping her, maybe more light will be shed on this in the future, maybe even a god statue will be found of the same age in the same area, who knows right.

forgot - the statue has a name - Venus of willendorf.

So bored hey!!!

Well then let me pre-empt some of the posts to come, and offer my motives and fascination for 'history' in general.

I insist in doing so, because I wouldn't want to lose the best 'ON-TOPIC' poster of this thread, ... to boredom.

For me, history of anything, including Hystory of Thought, and History of Language, together with History of Religions, opens my eyes to the opposite of what you suggest 'JB'.

Without realizing the source of an original thought; real source and really original thought, we cannot realize that all we are 'thinking' 'today', as opposed to 'so-yesterday', might be exactly the same thinking that our ancestors thought-up for the first time in human history 2, 3, 4 THOUSAND YEARS AGO, or more.

The thinking is unconsciously and irresponsibly the same, yet one whom ignores history, 'thinks' it original.

Our academic response and anti-thesis to this syndrome, might be the noble goals of the institution of 'doctorate' studies.

Enforcing, or institutionalizing the emergence of new and 'original thinking', into a coherent and cohesive sea of existing 'thinking'

Those thoughts, religious and philosophical concepts, and so on so forth, in their right historical contexts, were truly inspiring, and are still so today, when you take the time to research and study them.

Not to know the source of that which speaks us everyday, or to know so little, and to have the audacity and pretention to 'think' it original, when it is sourced in religious, philosophical, or thinking patterns that are 2,3,4 or more thousand years old, is borderline pathetic!

No offense intended. Just a statement of fact!

Nothing original, nothing new, nothing fresh!!! Just a pretense of original, new and fresh.

So last MILLION weeks!!! to paraphrase yours, in the most profound and respectfull manner JB !!!

:)

Let's know the history of our thinking, such that we can tell the all-so-old word and thought,

...from the 'spoken for the first time' word and tought,

... only true ability or purpose (maybe) of humanity.

Ability which puts into existence for humanity, that which was always, already there, but not yet accessible through 'languaging' for mankind, until someone spoke the original word, and named it!!!

If so, how depressing.

Rapunzel,

Loved that whole post of yours.

But I must admit, the little passage below, nails it perfectly for me.

but it does seem like we go round and round, ohwell

for dear life...laugh

and someone runs around on the outside

while holding on to the rails... noway

and get kinda sick feeling frown
and practically fall off, too laugh

and i get dizzy reading these posts...frown

But, i am here ,flowerforyou
cause i want to love people..

What an accurate picture of our collective threads and forums.

This kind of merry-go-round, where we all collapse on top of one another, having lost total control of 'the thing' that seems to spin us every which way.

FULL CHAOS!!! ... but somehow in that chaos, we still all need to hang-on to each other, and make sure no one falls off,
... cause we are all clear that the next 'someone' could be us!!!

bigsmile

Oh, Gosh...Voileazur....flowerforyou

thank you so very much...blushing happy drinker happy blushing

i'm sorry it has taken me so long

these are so beautiful...
a few by Simon And Garfunkel -

The Dangling Conversation

It's a still life water color,
Of a now late afternoon,
As the sun shines through the curtained lace
And shadows wash the room.
And we sit and drink our coffee
Couched in our indifference,
Like shells upon the shore
You can hear the ocean roar
In the dangling conversation
And the superficial sighs,
The borders of our lives.

And you read your Emily ****inson,
And I my Robert Frost,
And we note our place with bookmarkers
That measure what we've lost.
Like a poem poorly written
We are verses out of rhythm,
Couplets out of rhyme,
In syncopated time
Lost in the dangling conversation
And the superficial sighs,
Are the borders of our lives.

Yes, we speak of things that matter,
With words that must be said,
"Can analysis be worthwhile?"
"Is the theater really dead?"
And how the room is softly faded
And I only kiss your shadow,
I cannot feel your hand,
You're a stranger now unto me
Lost in the dangling conversation.
And the superficial sighs,
In the borders of our lives.

"Simon and Garfunkel"

"Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall"
Through the corridors of sleep
Past the shadows dark and deep
My mind dances and leaps in confusion.
I don't know what is real,
I can't touch what I feel
And I hide behind the
shield of my illusion.

So I'll continue to continue to pretend
My life will never end,
And flowers never bend
With the rainfall.

The mirror on my wall
Casts an image dark and small
But I'm not sure at all it's my reflection.
I am blinded by the light
Of God and truth and right
And I wander in the night
without direction.

So I'll continue to continue to pretend
My life will never end,
And flowers never bend
With the rainfall. flowerforyou

It's no matter if you're born
To play the King or pawn
For the line is thinly drawn
'tween joy and sorrow,
So my fantasy
Becomes reality,
And I must be what I must be
and face tomorrow. drinker

So I'll continue to continue to pretend
My life will never end,
And flowers never bend
With the rainfall. happy

Distant Shores

Sweet soft summer nights
Dancing shadows in the distant lights
You came for me to follow
And we kissed on distant shores

Long quiet hours of play
Sounds of tomorrow from yesterday
Love came for me to follow
And we kissed on distant shores

The careful glance of children playing
Raindrops fall as if they're saying
Quiet thoughts of you caressed by time

The breeze of summer's gone
Whispered memories as nights grow long
You came for me to follow
And we kissed on distant shores blushing

science will never find the truth as long as it contains itself within its own dogma's. one has to be free of held beliefs to go forward. Be it Eljay, abra,V, or any others.

your all barking up the wrong trees.ohwell

You're absolultely correct Tribo. I'm in complete agreement with you!

Science only moves forward when it frees itself from it's own dogma!

That's what happened in the case of both General Relativity and Quantum mechanics. Both of those advancements were only made when science freed itself from the Dogma of Classical Phsyics!!!

There is a new frontier awaiting science!!! There is a dogma is must break free of in order to move forward again!!!

I'm supposed to be writing the book that reveals that dogma!!!

But I've been refusing to write it. laugh

I am coming around though!!! I begining to realize the rebellious nature of my attitude on this matter and I really need to write that damn book whether I like it or not. It's not my book. It belongs to the universe!

The only problem right now is that it's on a shelf in my mind, and I need to put it into a form that can be placed on the shelves of books stores thoughout the world. flowerforyou

i sincerely hope you do move it forward abra, it sure needs to, just like religious beliefs - flowerforyou

Hey 'feral', this is so great!!!

Your 'outburst' just put me in touch with such a rich memory of my beloved 'grandfather'!!!

At family gatherings, he was the ultimate patriarch! Entertaining everyone with war , business, or '...Last time President, or Senator so and so called me for advice!!!...' stories.

After dinner, and with quite a few glasses of his favorite wine flowing through his bloodstream, GranPa would sit with all of us in the large family room, or huge outdoor deck,
... and fall asleep in his favorite chair, often with a 'Monte-Cristo' hanging in the corner of his mouth!

This is the part where you reminded of him 'feral'.
In the middle of his snooze, DISCONNECTED that he was from what everyone else was saying around him, he would raise up from his chair and loudly profess something like ...

'... FREEDOM!!! FREEDOM!!! Fight for FREEDOM with all your heart, and every once of energy, or risk dying from facism!!!...'

He would sit right back down in his chair, not having lost a wink of sleep!

Everyone would kind of be silent for the 15 seconds it took him to deliver his 'non-sequitour' comment. Some would be betting on prediciting the exact time it would happen after dinner, others would matter of factly warn the youngs ones not to talk during the 'moment', and each conversations would carry on from the exact point they were interrupted.

Everyone would get a chuckle out of 'granpa's non-sequitours'.

The comments never really meant anything, nor were they seeking to be addressed or answered, but they so 'out-of-the-blue' entertaining!!!

mmm I bet it was mildly entertaining to the
young ones. For some reason, reading that
made me recollect a grandfather I never knew.
