I don't believe this is representative of all U.S. soldiers serving in Iraq.

However, it would indicate a problem with some units.

Perhaps they were 'stop-lossed' or something else happened that frustrated them enough to be so cruel in their actions.

What was the purpose of this? I'm sure to bring intelligent and deep discussions on the topic of a few a-holes in a force of over 500,000 that have served in Iraq. No, I doubt that was even slightly close to your intentions.

Yes they do - because they are ordered to do it.

War makes even good men do terrible things.

But then war makes good men in to soldiers and they are supposed to kill.

even if just one soldier acts in a questionable manner, he or she is representing the US and ALL OF YOU....their "isolated" actions are what the victims experience..and every single American should be outraged that even just ONE "a-hole" brings shame, disgrace and dishonor to your country....
Or do you condone it (as some of the previous replies insinuated) and think its ok??? then I guess they are representative of Americans and you guys deserve then what you get....

The actions of those few soldiers depicted are not representative of THIS American.

Although the soldiers that did this are representatives of the United States, their actions do not represent the actions of all soldiers or all Americans.

In fact, I think that most Americans would condemn this type of behavior.

There was something lacking in those soldiers' lives that caused them to do these things.

The need to pick someones bones, write about it and imply that that soup made and served is indicative of anyone that shares a bowl, certainly indicates a lacking and balance in those intentions. Responsibility is personal first. Casting stones is ludicrous.

The two guys in the video with the puppy were arrested and court martialed!

They learned that behavior while living at home, not the US Army!

None of those men are a good representation of an American soldier,
They are an extreme minority.

then there's people like star. who have never served, but support war. its always funny. when non war people say I'm for war, but have never served.then you have to wonder how many will come back from Iraq. then be homeless. because if anyone believes that the government will help the soldiers. you crazy.

Sorry 'symbelmyne',

I never got to the OP. I got stuck on the title of your thread.

You're stating 'the UGLY SIDE of war'.

Do you know something I don't?

Is there another SIDE to war, beside UGLY?

Are you suggesting there is a PRETTY side to war?

Please 'symbelmyne', tell me it ain't so!!!

I'm sure most will come home and be just fine. We mustn't generalize from a few bad individuals -- however it's the government's responsibility to assess each and every one of them for post-traumatic conditions that may put ex-soldiers and the people around them in danger.

Sadly, war will make many good men do terrible things, even just doing their job. War is a bane to humanity and should only be used in extreme circumstances. This war was not necessary, will not accomplish anything except removing Saddam and ensuring us a bit of the spoils, but it will send us home many many broken citizens. What is even sadder still, is the fact that they will be pretty much on their own to fix their broken minds, emotions, spirits, etc...

What country are you from? If not the US then what attrocities have your countries armed forces committed.

To lump all of us in the same catagory as a small fraction causes me to wonder what your agenda is.
