You guys feel the same way then it should not matter if you are black, white, yellow, brown, green purple, pink, red or whatever other colour that is on the rainbow. Best of luck!

What I really need to know, is how do I apologize to her for the evils of my race? I am working on a poem about all that African-Americans have had to go though. I call it "My Noble Sister". I think if I read it to her with the right amount of emotional projection, she will see I am not the typical evil white man.

Ummm...why do YOU need to apologize for our history. That's a bit much. You had no control over what your ancestors did.

She already knows the U.S. history. It might be demeaning to her for you to bring it up. Be careful, it might turn her off. JMHO

Are you saying that all the other white men alive today are "typical evil white men"?

There is a young lady I've grown quite fond of. However, she happens to be African-American, and I am Euro-American, so I know that normally she would never be interested in me. But I think she will be if she sees that I'm different: that I'm sensitive, emotionally enabled, and that I am sorry for all the evil my race has perpetuated. But what is the best way for me to do this?

not sure why you have indicated 'white' guilt? grumble grumble

The absolute best thing to do in this situation is to print out the following document and post in prominently in your home and/or office.

African-American women are not interested in Euro-American men because they do not think that Euro-American men are sensitive and emotionally enlightened enough. They think Euro-American men are bigoted, controlling, and not hip. But I want to show her I'm not the typical white male.

Wow, that's racist. My ex is black and she prefers white men. Her sister is married to a white man. Her brother is married to an Brazilian woman. Maybe if you stop stereotyping her, accusing her of being a racist, accusing her of stereotyping and insulting your own race, then she will see that you aren't such an annoying guy.

I think your heart is actually in the right place. You notice that everyone that has responded appears to be white. I am an aferican american and it isn't actually that you need to apologize for the ills of your race, but to let her know that you are aware or sensitive to what it is like to be black in america today and historically. There may be other issues, whether whites may want to hear it or not, this society is not and probably will never be color blind on both sides. As long as you have a conversation with someone and refer to their race you know what time of day it is. Persoanlly, it does and doesn't matter. It matters to me when the person I am thinking about getting with has any consciousness. You do!!! If you need any advice on this please write

How about just be yourself. She either likes you or she doesn't.

Think if you placed more emphasis on getting her attention, gaining her respect the whole black and white thing would disappear.

2 humans not a white man and a black woman.

(Doctor who) What? (/Doctor who)

If you feel so bad, relieve your personal guilt and buy her 40 acres of farm land. huh There is only one race, fwiw. Many of us qualify to claim membership in the HUMAN race although some really try hard not to. The rest is politics.

Eh? Ask her out...there aren't many people that will hold that kind of history against you anymore...your race didn't do anything, your culture did. Race=human, human=fail.
