Blind would be great! Suddenly there would be no ugly people! Your sense of beauty is defined by 1 out of your 5 senses? |

When I was little, I pretended ALL sorts of handicaps. While none of them were in any way pleasant, it helped me develop a true empathy for a great many maladies. Think it put me in good stead for my clinical life that came to be, and grateful for ALL my good health blessings. Interesting to walk a mile in another's ... Of note, going blind is considered an EXTREMELY traumatic event that often catalyzes serious mental health disorders and a great deal of suicide, sadly. Would be SO extremely difficult and terrifying ... ![]() Any major difference between one human and all the rest will have a profound impact on them. It creates a "me" and "them" right from the start instead of "us". |

i would sleep all day and listen to the radio. maybe make a game out of it... see if i can walk to the corner store and buy some beer without the use of my eyes. then find out what its like to be drunk and blind. then i would do stuff only blind people can get away with, like stealing and murder. See here, I was thinking blind men can get away with groping strange women.... see, thats what i was going for, but if you really are blind, how could you tell a man from a woman? or worse, a 20-year-old from a 12-year-old. ![]() or an overweight wendy's employee from a hot girl... with a boyfriend!!! then you get to find out what it is like to get your ass kicked when you are blind. I just had an idea: braille driver's licenses. Now blind people don't have to go around raping 12 year olds. |

Federal law does not apply to the blind, however, every blind molester's arrest warrant goes to a retarded child (like call forwarding). True story. |

i think if you start a relationship based on fear of losing that person, it's not going to be good.
you have to start with "oh hi, you have a nice butt, let's go on a date or something", and honestly not care if they say yes or no. it has to be mutual interest/benefit from the start, with intentions known in advance. honesty in relationships is easy if you just start off by saying who you really are. |

The world will end when it ends, we have no control therefore it's not worth even thinking about, much less stressing about ![]() that attitude is what keeps things from getting better. yes, we have control. if something horrible happens, we could have prevented it. the failure is almost always in lazy science - people with advanced degrees that forget basic humanity. but don't stress if you choose not to - just don't ask people like me to chill out and relax. we're driving the bus. don't get us drunk please. Ouch, hostile much? A - I rarely drink; and B - I'm old enough to know that the more I know, the more I don't but one thing I DO know is that there are certain things I CAN control and certain things I CAN'T. I cannot control the actions of other people, nor can I control nature. Therefore, I choose not to stress over the things I CANNOT control. That was what I meant, I'm sorry you chose to read more into it than what was intended. ![]() It's fine. I think our true ability to control our world has been underestimated in public opinion. Many people have a sense that the world might end, and that we can't do anything to stop it. We can, and we will. That truth should take the stress away without ignoring the concept. |

if you truly have to sleep, take benadryl (diphenhydramine). it sells as anti-histamine and sleep aid, both are the same thing. pills are 25 mg. toxic dose for 180 lb man is over 1000 mg. you can safely take 100 mg to sleep, provided you didn't take any other depressants (like alcohol), and are not allergic to diphenhydramine.
Also, halflife is 2-8 hours, which is fairly long as far as drugs go. some people feel tired the next day if their bodies don't eliminate it fast enough. |

Wrong. You are part of the first generation of humans able to discuss something on the internet, with your picture attached to each message. |

I believe that to be a very, very good programmer, you must have at least some hate and misery. That is not an acceptable trade off. Life is far too short to spend any of it being miserable and hateful. However, based on my observations, many people embrace their misery. Personally, I choose not to be around such individuals. I think that for most people this is a bad idea. It's not like a way of life or anything. I don't think anyone should have to be like this. But since I'm here already, I might as well use it to do something good. I've had 25 years of boot camp. I'm sure as hell not going to waste all that crappy hardship. |

The psychologist is calling it ptsd.
Well, of COURSE they are! ![]() There is a big difference in mental health between ptsd and other conditions. ptsd is chronic overstimulation from anticipated violence. that's why soldiers get it - ptsd is a survival trait. people without ptsd just think the soldiers are high strung or nervous. in war it saves lives to be ptsd. in peace it is hell - because you can't relax like everyone around you. anyway, we need names for different stuff. some medications for depression would make someone with ptsd psychotic. |

Believe me just because I have forgave others in the past they are not always within my life today. Many remain in the past where they need to be but by forgiving them I was in fact able to move on and let the hate go. Hate and the the ability to forgive will only eat at you and keep you from finding the calm and to realize that they are not worthy of your love or trust or maybe even friendship. There is nothing wrong leaving those behind that took those things away from you. What is wrong is to not be able to forgive in order to move on in life.... Letting go of hate... I know I could, but that is not the issue at the moment. Have you seen the tv show House MD? His hatred and misery are the things that drive him to solve problems for other people. That hate and misery is the only thing that makes him capable. I believe that to be a very, very good programmer, you must have at least some hate and misery. The task involves thousands of hours of intense focus with no positive reward for work beyond a paycheck. Other programmers function on peer support - as in the open source community. They rely on encouragement given in IRC channels from other programmers for the pieces of code they write. It helps them get stuff done, but is not always productive. With the things I have in my head now, I believe I can do some operating system level stuff that no one has worked on in a long, long time - the kind of fundamental stuff our systems are based on that have not changed in 20 years. If I can, it will simplify the horrifying mess that computer software has become. So why not use it? I've survived this long, and I might as well use it for something good. I can't really miss what I've never had anyway, so it's not a hard choice for me. sorry for the rant >< |

![]() Because it's NOT about them.... it's not about them. It's not about them. Keep repeating it. Then go ask your psychologist why it's not about them if you still don't get it. Your posts always seem to have that intellectual superiority tone. It annoys me, and forces rejection out of hand of whatever it is you are trying to say. |

"I don't know how to forgive someone without saying they were right to do what they did." Forgiveness doesn't mean that one is saying that they are right - not even close. I know, but I don't know why or how. I feel like there's a book I should read or something. |
