What an amazing and gutsy write. I admire you for both your ability to write this and to post it. Know that while you have lost a part of you, you haven't lost all of you.

I stopped on the road the other day
To watch three does graze.
One half grown fawn from the spring
And two older, full grown deer
They picked among the remants
Of a corn field harvested last fall
Unplowed, waiting for the coming spring.
As a watched their browsing in the fading light
They slowly crept back to the tree line.
Not alarmed quiet enough to run, but unnerved nonetheless
At my strange behavior.
I took in the scene, wondering.
Who else would have stopped,
Taken the sixty seconds of tranquility
And then felt regret and disturbing the herd's peace?

Don't tell me "It will be all right"
When has experience ever taught you that?
I'm still a youngin and already I've learned
That in this life there's no guarantee
Reality is not fluff balls and daisies
There are shadows and lurkers and troubles
Quit handing me empty, transparent promises
Just to get me to shut my trap
If you don't care leave so I know where you stand
Otherwise just tell me you'll be around
Even if its not all right or anywhere near it
