Depends on the person's face. Some people look great with long hair while others look great in short hair.

You took the words right out of my mouth! Shoe count is a definite indicator!

Lack of responsiveness is an indication of not only boredom, but a possible lack of interest.

Okay, now I'm curious. You were "never married", yet you have a husband and you're on a singles web sight looking for friends. Okaaaaaay! Am I missing something here? Just curious!

I live in a state where as no I have never married, however , we have been together for 15 years. Common Law Marrage. I didn't realize this was a singles website only.

Okay, now I understand, just a friendly curiosity about the seeming contradiction! It's obviously not just a singles web site. My bad!

Most American men make/expect their mates to "cook, clean and take care of children". That's hardly a reason for a man to look overseas when most women do these things for a man here. Homer Simpson, though a cartoon, is an accurate depiction of the average American male. Am I wrong ladies?

Not the men I've dated or had relationships with. I have always been treated as an equal partner and with the utmost respect.

But, I've discovered that I've been living in the shadows where abuse is concerned here in the US...I never realized just how common it is until I joined this site. I only heard of cases brought to my attention by the media until now, and have rarely been around it with the exception of one boyfriend my sister had, and I just thought he was a nut case. It's truly astonishing to me.

What worries me concerning mail order brides, is that a man whose experience has been that women who won't put up with him, can use mail order as a means to buy what he is looking for, feeling that she will have no choice about it once the deal is done and paid for. frown

How many men might use this avenue as a means to purchase a slave? sick

The thought of that is sick!

I would hope that any man looking for a wife, no matter how they do it, is looking for someone to love and respect. I suspect men who pay for mail order brides are likely are acting out of their desperation to meet someone and not be alone.

I suspect the number of abusive men is statistically higher when it comes to mail order brides. Why? Because trust has to be paramount. There has to be a lot of trust on both sides because the man has to trust that the woman is sincere and the woman has to trust that the man is not an abuser. Abusers prey on other people's trust.

Do any of you READ what you write...YOU WANT TO PAY FOR A BRIDE, someone who is supposed to love you unconditionally, someone who is supposed to fulfill you emotionally, mentally and physically...

Any man that stoops to this level and dehumanizes a person well... I have a few choice words... GO GET A HOOKER.

I can't believe in 2008 people actually think about doing this... I'm stunned and horrified at this practice.

Some people must really, really be desperate for marriage... laugh.

Kind of makes you wonder why we're all on here!

Is being on here the same thing?

Mmmm, I would say so. People are on here for pretty much every reason, whether it be to seek out marriage or a one night stand. I've even been contacted by women who are married on this site looking for an affair. One woman has a profile out there where she has a husband at home and he is terminally ill. She's looking for a single man for a relationship. Huh? I've been contacted by women for cyber sex, too. noway So, yep, being on here is pretty much the same thing! You get every imaginable type!

It's interesting, my talks with many divorced women right here in the United States. Almost always, the reason why they are divorced is because of an abusive ex-husband. Given the numbers I have seen, I think many, many men in this country are abusive. An abusive man is more likely to be found marrying women right here than anywhere else in the world. Let's not overlook our own backyard!

Most American men make/expect their mates to "cook, clean and take care of children". That's hardly a reason for a man to look overseas when most women do these things for a man here. Homer Simpson, though a cartoon, is an accurate depiction of the average American male. Am I wrong ladies?

Abuse by men in this country is so pervasive, I find myself surprised that more American women don't look outside of the United States for a mate!

What's so startling, in my experience personally, is that so many abusive men are working fulltime, wearing suits & ties, etc. My own ex had a fabulous personality, had a college degree, nice family, fulltime job.... and then he was this whole other person at home behind closed doors. And people wonder why I have trust issues???? grumble Heck, it makes it so hard to know if you are with someone genuine or if they'll pull the old switcheroo once they get a ring on my finger like that last one!!

Your experience is just what I hear, too, from most other divorced women I meet. Their ex's were fantastic before the wedding ring was put on and "monsters" afterward. You're right, too, they never dare show their bad behavior to others!
They hide it. That tells me that they damn well know what they do to women is wrong!

The new JibJab, with Obama on the unicorn.... made tears stream from my eyes.

It made me cry, too, because I was laughing so hard! It was made because of his remarks about him not being able to get a cab in New York because of racism.

This was a ludicrous statement as proven by New York's success in "operation refusal" instituted by Gulianni. Even if what Obama says was true, who are the cabbies in New York anyways? Mostly immigrants! Maybe his issue should be race sensitivity training required for all cab driving immigrants!

I suspect that unicorn depiction is somewhat true. Once he's in, we'll all feel that unicorn's single horn in a place where the sun doesn't shine! But then, it could be worse. McCain has the horn of a rhino. Ouch!

If it is a reputable company who initiates contact, sets up visits and most of the payments are for travel, visas, and moving expenses + administrative, I can see it being not much different than here...with the exception of no one here is going to send a women or a man, for that matter, that kind of money to see to their moving and naturalization expenses. A good mail order firm would take the scam out of the equation.

I don't believe that's what most of these are about though. I suspect that being someone's property to cook, clean and take care of children is probably the price some women are willing to pay for their freedom from government and poverty in their own country. That is their choice...but the fact that we have those in our country, in this day and age, who would treat someone with such little respect as to consider themselves the owner of their bride...sickens me.

I think it's a tough thing to call and see how it might mutually benefit some, but also see how easily it could be turn to an abusive situation too.

And to think.. they'll purchase a "bride" online for thousands of dollars... but if we want a nice dinner, new shoes, nice gifts.... us women are considered "gold diggers and wallet sniffers" pfffff

I was approached by an overseas woman on here a couple of days ago. She seems very sincere, however, I do have my concerns. I will be VERY cautious as I discover more about her, for sure.

I think the term "mail order bride" is a bit mis-applied in some cases. Just because a person meets a potential mate from overseas doesn't mean one is paying thousands of dollars out to some agency to get a marital partner.

As I look at it, being with a woman from overseas is similar to meeting a woman who lives in another state. People are the same all over the world, albeit cultural differences.

Technologies such as planes and computers make it easy now. As with any relationship, there is always the risk of being deceived. That's a given and one must be wary of that risk.

It's something that I'm considering, too. I think if one is careful enough to check everything out, especially the sincerity, it can work.

I was notorious in talking to myself while I worked in my office. One day a co-worker in a cube outside of my office yelled; "Would you stop talking to yourself!

My response to him was; "I have to talk to myself. I'm the only intelligent person around this place for me to talk to!"
