Turn the other cheek means this :
DO NOT RETALIATE EVIL WITH EVIL!!!! BUT...... THIS DOES NOT MEAN IT IS EVIL TO DEFEND ONESELF WHEN AN EVIL ATTACK IS COMMITED AGAINST ONESELF OR ANOTHER....IT JUST MEANS THAT ONE IS NOT TO DO SOMETHING EVIL IN RETURN AGAINST SOMEONE WITH MALICIOUS OR EVIL INTENT IN ONE'S HEART!!!!!!!!! BUT DEFENDING ONESELF OR A LOVED ONES AGAINST AN EVIL AND BRUTAL ATTACK , IS NOT CONSIDERED EVIL!!!!!! AGAIN....IT WOULD BE CONSIDERED EVIL WHEN A MALICIOUS AND BRUTAL ATTACK IS RETURNED WITH MALICIUS INTENT.... NOT JUST DONE TO DEFEND ONESELF,IN OTHER WORDS.....BUT TO ALSO CAUSE BRUTAL HARM IN RETURN !!!! IT'S THE ATTITUDE OF THE HEART THAT THE SCRIPTURE IS ACTUALLY TALKING ABOUT !!!!!! Again.... what turning the other cheek means is... when a rude remark or evil word is spoken against you , for instance, you do NOT get on their level, and speak evil back. Or if slapped, you turn the other cheek...but it does NOT mean you are to allow HARM or a SAVAGE VIOLENT ATTACK of BRUTALITY to be committed against you or your loved ones...while you a just sit by and do nothing!!!! There are Scriptures that ALSO CLEARLY TEACH , that we are to PROTECT and DEFEND OUR LOVED ONES FROM HARM'S WAY !!!!!!!! This misunderstanding of "turning the other cheek" ,is just one example of how someone will take scripture out of context ...and then make scripture say anything a person wants it to say...and sadly there are people in the world who do just this !!! And then they say they are obeying God !!! Again......turning the other cheeek , does NOT NOT NOT mean that we are to idly sit by and allow our loved one to be raped and murdered while we sit by and do nothing !!! Like the scripturs Sin_and_Sorrwow pointed out, we are to HELP DEFEND Loved Ones or anyone for that matter, when BEING VIOLENTLY ATTACKED !! Even in spiritual warfare we are to resist the enemy...and stand firm and put on our armour.....and fight the good fight of faith. But again... there are always gonna be those peope in the world, who will DISTORT scriptures like this .......and then think they are obeying God. |

Here is an example of when NOT to just turn the other cheek : family members are being brutally attacked . When it comes to a situation like the above mentioned ,That is most definitely NOT the time to turn the other cheek....and that scripture does not even apply to that situation... to try and apply the scripture to that situation is called misusing scripture and applying it foolishly.. |

YES..in that same exact spot in the bible , that
scripture means the same thing in every version of the bible...it means do not murder....priod !!! HOWEVER... the word "kill" is ALSO used in OTHER spots thruout the bible also..and that is where we find that the word " kill", has a DIFFERENT meaning then..... |

Plus..there is a difference between being under GRACE....
and being STILL under the letter of the law..... trying to earn ones way thru good works and by trying to keep the law, does NOT please God one bit !!!! Trying to obey by the keeping of the law is just dead religious works to God...nothing more....IF a person is not born again . No one can earn their way by the keeping of the law.... that is why man must be born again. THEN one is under Grace......and God's law is now written on the tablet of his heart... God wants us to receive His Son...trying to earn one way by the keeping of the law without receiving His Son ,doesn't do a thing for God..... |

We live in a fallen world......where there will be war....and to not defend ourselves against the enemy in a time of war is just plan and simple...foolishness... Gos allows war...God would rather we did not go to war..bu He allows it..and would not expect us to do absolutely nothing to protect or defend our country or our loved ones in a time of war, for instance ..... If war broke out ,and you and your family were under attack, would you not try to at least defend and protect your loved ones ?? IF the enemy broke int your housee in a time of war,and made an attemept to kill you and your loved ones, woud you just turn the other cheek and allow the enemy to kill you and your loved ones? God has flat out told us to turn the other cheek. Let me ask you a simple question, is not needed of an answer unless you wish to. Who/what do you love more? - Your things a theif could steal or God? - Your family or God? If you chose God, why then would you not obey him before anything anyone else? Why would you allow yourself to break one of God's laws even in order to protect a family member? Again, just hypothetical questions. No need for an answer unless you wish. I have to agree with Cowboy on this one.....if Heaven is such a wonderful place then why do believers do everything not to get there this is why I never understood why believers go to the doctor...isn't the Doctor's job to keep you out of Heaven or at least delay your arrival ... this is why going to the doctor is a lack of Faith which is why if someone is trying to kill you or your family...you are supposed to turn the other cheek ...because God is trying to bring you home Cowboy is completely misunderstanding what turning the other cheek means....and is therefore makng God's Word look like a bunch of FOOLISHNESS .......I already suggested that he do a proper study on the meaning...and not take that scripture out of context like he did.... ps...there is FAITH ..and then there is sheer and utter FOOLISHNESS, when it comes to studying and rightly dividing the Word of God, and rightly understanding the meaning of scriptures !!! This is why one needs the Holy Spirit ....The Holy Spirit gives the RIGHT Interpretation of God's Word!! |

since some bibles calls God's Helper "The Holy Spirit" and other bibles refer to it as being "The Holy Ghost" does not both mean the same? so why would the same not apply to "Thou Shalt Not Kill" and "Thou Shalt Not Murder" especially since you can find either term used in the same exact spot, in the same exact passage depending on which bible you look in Funches... a word in one part of scripture, may have a totally different meaning when used in another part of scripture.. that is why it is important to look at the whole context ...not just part of scripture or just a word in scripture... |

...... We are taught to turn the other cheek. Going to war is not very much of turning the other cheek. Matthew 5:39 39 But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. Cowboy..you are taking that scripture completely out of context!!!! THAT scripture does NOT even apply to times of war..DO a STUDY on the meaning of the WHOLE context that the scripture was taken out of........and not just use the scripture alone. LISTEN UP: TAKING A SCRIPTURE OUT OF CONTEXT THEN ALLOWS ONE TO MAKE THE SCRIPTURE SAY ANY OLE THING ONE WANTS IT TO SAY !!!!! |

But I also believe that the more we allow ourselves to be drawn into God's Presence, the more God's Love overwhelms us and fills us up to overflowing.... so much so in fact , that we would find that we couldn't even kill a tiny little bug if we had to.... BUT we still live in a fallen world, and despite the love in us that comes from God now, we could not and would not and should not even hesistate for a second ,when it comes to rising up and defending our loved ones if need be.... Period !!! And for one to even question whether one should defend a loved one or not, is just utter foolishness beyond belief. |

Actually( reguardng the post made earlier), when it
comes to fighting in self defense, none of can be really sure of how we woud react in that particular situation , until we are actually in that situation. I believe God would help us know just what to do in that particular moment....but not until then are we really able to know just exactly how we would defend ourselves....and until then,we can ony speculate . |

There is a difference between a spiritual
warfare and physical warfare : I deal with spiritual warfare this way: (which CLEARLY shows that even in spiritual warfare, we are NOT to just sit around and do absolutely nothing ) .............. For though we walk (live) in the flesh, we are not carrying on our warfare according to the flesh and using mere human weapons. For the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds. 2 Corinthians 10: 3-4 Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour. Withstand him; be firm in faith [against his onset--rooted, established, strong, immovable, and determined], knowing that the same (identical) sufferings are appointed to your brotherhood (the whole body of Christians) throughout the world. 1 Peter 5: 8-9 Blessed be the Lord, my Rock and my keen and firm Strength, Who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight Psalm 144: 1 Put on God's whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil. Ephesians 6: 11 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6: 12(NKJV) Stand therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God. Ephesians 6: 14 You shall not fear them, for the Lord your God shall fight for you. Deuteronomy 3: 22 Fight the good fight of the faith; lay hold of the eternal life to which you were summoned and [for which] you confessed the good confession [of faith] before many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6: 12 I have fought the good (worthy, honorable, and noble) fight, I have finished the race, I have kept (firmly held) the faith. 2 Timothy 4: 7 [And indeed] the Lord will certainly deliver and draw me to Himself from every assault of evil. He will preserve and bring me safe unto His heavenly kingdom. To Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen (so be it). 2 Timothy 4: 18 [God] disarmed the principalities and powers that were ranged against us and made a bold display and public example of them, in triumphing over them in Him and in it [the cross]. Colossians 2: 15 My God, my Rock, in Him will I take refuge; my Shield and the Horn of my salvation; my Stronghold and my Refuge, my Savior--You save me from violence. 2 Samuel 22: 3 I call on the Lord, Who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies. 2 Samuel 22: 4 So be subject to God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him], and he will flee from you. James 4: 7 So [as the result of the Messiah's intervention] they shall [reverently] fear the name of the Lord from the west, and His glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him and put him to flight [for He will come like a rushing stream which the breath of the Lord drives]. Isaiah 59: 19 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. ~ 1 John 4:4 (NKJV) For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? ~ 1 John 5:4-5 (NKJV) But thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory [making us conquerors] through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15: 57 But thanks be to God, Who in Christ always leads us in triumph [as trophies of Christ's victory] and through us spreads and makes evident the fragrance of the knowledge of God everywhere. 2 Corinthians 2: 14 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is from Me,” says the LORD. ~ Isaiah 54:17 (NKJV) Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. ~ Luke 10:19 (NKJV) |

Evenn In self defense ,God still sees and knows the
heart of man. Point being....Even in self defense, one could have malice and ill intent in his heart towards another......so again...God would see and know what was really in the heart of that person...no matter what the situation might be |

In the old testament, they had what was called
cities of refuge...to protect those who had accidentally killed someone ( usually in self defense ), from being killed themselves by an angry mob or persons in return.... IF the accidental killing would have been considered murder, that person who accidentally killed someone while acting in self defense, surely would not have been offered refuge within the cities of refuge...for protection.... The Word of God has to be rightly divided and rightly understood......in order to derive the correct meaning... |

God's Will and Perfect Plan WILL STILL unfold and come to pass... according to GOD'S PERFECT PLAN FOR US .....as was planned by God from the beginning......... and Yes........THEN we WILL be living in a PERFECT WORLD as was in God's plan for us all along...but that time is STILL YET to come to pass |

And I AGREE with what you are saying, Msharmony...but
am just looking into the deeper meaning of what God's Perfect Plan for us was all along , which was never to kill.... even for food.... but is an action God just allows (and again, am NOT talking about murder here )..... but when His Perfect Plan comes to pass for mankind, ALL WILL BE according to HIS PERFECT PLAN ...as it was intended by God for us from the very Beginning... |

Msharmony..I am talking about God allowing
killing....NOT talking about murder here..... Thou shalt not kill... actually means, thou shalt not murder.... but to kill in war...to kill for food is what God allows..but again..... God never actually condoned killing of ANY kind..that was NOT in His PERFECT PLAN for His creation ever... our fallen state brought this on...not God. |
