pressing the printscreen button alone captures the whole screen

alt + printscreen captures the window on top

theyre meant to be pasted in a document such as word.

in your case with a laptop you must press the fn key + the printscreen key

Well the most known one which happens to be a bigger security risk than all of the editions of IE is that it secretly stores all usernames and passwords in a file that also states what websites that they go to. There are many others, but that is the most important one. Surprised that you didn't know that!

but thats only if you use the store password option, correct?

If nothing has worked... Really, Give this a try....

Go out and purchase "System Mechanic" I've used that on many a computer with GREAT results. Yes, I am a consultant in computers for 20 years. NICE program Without the Virus Scanner and Firewall (Basic Version) it's only 20.00...

WELL Worth the bucks.... Target, Walmart, etc...

It will look over windows for all kinds of errors. Bug fixes... Lost Keys in the registry. I love it...

you can find better programs online for free

Then GIVE them the links!! My god man, don't be greedy.

I find in my profession more people download useless programs filled with Malware.

The Latest is XP ______ Center.
NOT a good one to get off the computer. Reformat and start all over after that one.

ya the majority do download useless junk that in fact harms more than helps. The real free helpful software is hard to find.

http://www.avg.com/
http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/ <---this is the only one I recommend buying.

In IE:

Tools\Internet Options
Select the Content tab
Settings button in the Feeds section

but better to use firefox

I would only suggest that program to someone that is aware of its little hidden secrets and knows how to turn them off.

eh? such as? it is more secure than IE

Being careful of how you surf the net & not opening emails unless you know who theyre from & you actually dont need antiviruses. I only install them once a month just to do a maintenance scan otherwise I usually dont need them

thank you for buying computers and assuming that computer maintainance is automatic. I raise my glass to you. cheers. without people like you, I wouldn't have a paycheck. thanks

eh? you talkin to me? lol I was simply stating that was the best for its purpose. I am well aware that it isnt automatic but then again actually if you know what youre doing it can be pretty much automatic with scripts n **** but anyway.

Speaking of ur paycheck, mine is from the IT dept as well. ;)

Anyway for general cleanup of temp files & registry cleaning use http://www.ccleaner.com/

for free spyware & adware removal, Ad-Aware 2008, Spybot - Search & Destroy are your best 2. Use them both. Its always better to use more than one adware/spyware removal

& Avast or AVG are better than ur retail antivirus programs

now if you really want to get technical & see what exactly starts when you boot up in windows or everything that is running then try Autoruns
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx
this was actually the only thing I could use to end a rampant virus regeneration a couple years ago, I think it was the blaster virus strain but the remover wouldnt work so...

not everyone can use linux or will take the time for the learing curve it takes to use linux. I agree its the most secure alternative. Also many cant use linux because of their employment.
& no you dont have to take it to a repair shop if you got some common sense of how windows works. Google every error, or known malicious file

so for for the meantime get spyware doctor will clean better that anything out there at the moment but it is retail

Irc is really good for downloads, but that stuff requires a lot of patience.

agreed

I used irc a long time ago, like 15 years ago lol.
But i have used it with in the past few months to find an older program. I just dont feel secure with a public tracker like thepiratebay or other public torrent sites.
