Topic: Microsoft Windows XP help please | |

I keep getting a pop up that says "Microsoft Feeds Synchrinozation" needs to close...blah, blah, blah. I sent an error report and it says I need to install Windows Service Pack 3, which caused my web browsers to crash, viruses, etc... Pretty much killed my computer.
How do I get rid of the pop-up without installing the dreaded SP3, and without buying a new computer with Windows Vista??? |

You should probably update windows with ALL the updates from the microsoft web site. They help keep the security issues from getting worse.
Download 3 pieces of free software and install them, update them, and then run them. Delete what ever they say to. www.superantispyware.com spybot - search and destroy Lavasoft AdAware I use windows XP service pack 3 on all 5 of my computers without a problem. When you use microsoft update though, you have to keep going back and back till you have all the updates. Sometimes there are MORE updates after you update your computer. When you do all that, your computer should be running like a bat outta hell!!! Personally, Vista $ucks!!! I've tried it and Windows XP is BY FAR the better of the two. Vista sorta reminds me of the Microshaft Flop Windows ME. OH....and BTW....be sure you have some up to date virus software on there too. AVG antivirus is pretty good for the price!! It's free too!!! |

Thank you. I'll try that. I just recently installed AVG.

Service pack are sometimes hard to install because of their size through the Microsoft website so instead of downloading and installing it at the same time just download it and save it on your HD once that is done you can install it directly this helps most of the time to install Service Pack without a problem. That is if your system is clean of any bugs and virus do all your cleaning first and try it. |

If nothing has worked... Really, Give this a try....
Go out and purchase "System Mechanic" I've used that on many a computer with GREAT results. Yes, I am a consultant in computers for 20 years. NICE program Without the Virus Scanner and Firewall (Basic Version) it's only 20.00... WELL Worth the bucks.... Target, Walmart, etc... It will look over windows for all kinds of errors. Bug fixes... Lost Keys in the registry. I love it... |

In IE:
Tools\Internet Options Select the Content tab Settings button in the Feeds section but better to use firefox |

I find in my profession more people download useless programs filled with Malware. The Latest is XP ______ Center. NOT a good one to get off the computer. Reformat and start all over after that one. |

I used to feel the same way. Find the free ones or get that pirated version. But ya know it just is not worth the hassle. I do use a free antivirus program avg http://free.avg.com/download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition But as far as my firewall I use outpost pro for windows Vista 64 bit. Plus various expensive graphics software for my two website's that I run. I do use spybot but i do not let it load up because Outpost also has spyware built protection built into it. So personally I think I will use paid programming that I can rely on with a few freebies tossed in.

In IE: Tools\Internet Options Select the Content tab Settings button in the Feeds section but better to use firefox I would only suggest that program to someone that is aware of its little hidden secrets and knows how to turn them off. |

The real free helpful software is hard to find. http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds http://majorgeeks.com/download460.html http://www.filehippo.com/download_autoruns/ http://www.avg.com/ http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/ <---this is the only one I recommend buying. Thanks for the help guys.

Well the most known one which happens to be a bigger security risk than all of the editions of IE is that it secretly stores all usernames and passwords in a file that also states what websites that they go to. There are many others, but that is the most important one. Surprised that you didn't know that!
