Topic: Computer Clean Up Tips | |
---|---|
So, I was having issues with my computer, turns out I had two trojans on it, but in the process I also discovered a safe, free registry cleaner through Microsoft. It's the first one I found that will scan AND repair without asking for money before they fix the issues. It does offer a free 90-day trial when the scan and repair is done.
http://onecare. live.com/ site/en-us/ default.htm AVAST, anti virus program I use now found one trojan, but I went to Trend Micro and got another free scan and repair. It found the other trojan and fixed additional registry files and deleted 'profiling' files.... files that track your internet usage. This scan is a deep scan and takes a while but it is highly worth it... http://housecall. trendmicro. com/ We all know about dumping temp internet files through Iternet Properties, but a computer repairman I talked with yesterday showed me how to get rid of a bunch of others... Go to Start, run and then type ..... %temp% this will bring up other temp files you do not need that you can delete. Before you run any scan, dump temp files and recycle bin so the scans won't take quite so long. I gotta tell ya, my computer works as well now as it did when it was new. Hope you find this helpful. |

Not many of us think about cleaning registry files, at least I didn't. And I didn't know about the additional way you can dump temp files. I found out also it is good to have a second virus program scan your computer because one might find a problem where the other one didn't. |

It was a microsoft site and was the only one that would repair without asking for money first. It worked perfectly well for me and cleared up a lot of issues I was having. |

Go to Start, run and then type ..... %temp% this will bring up other temp files you do not need that you can delete. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I used to do this (but in a different way) years ago. Then one of the upgrades got rid of the method I was using to clear out the stupid temp internet pic links that hide on your computer. Those don't get removed when you clean out temp files and cookies and such. This is what I've been trying to figure out, and not finding. |

I had over 1700 temp files I wasn't aware of. All these steps really made my computer run a lot faster. |

Go to Start, run and then type ..... %temp% this will bring up other temp files you do not need that you can delete. Does this really work? I am dealing with a Trojan horse virus right now. My AVG is detecting it but I don't know that it will take care of it. I have step by step instructions what to do afterwards to delete bad files ( I don't really understand them!) This seems sooo much easier but, I am pretty much computer iliterate when it comes to maintenance! I don't want to mess it up more. |

That won't get rid of a trojan, it is to get rid of files that slow down the explorer...and it can be used to get rid of mild spyware, but it won't get rid of a trojan. |

Deleting the files in the temp folder definitely works. You'd be surprised the size the folder gets after a while. Another thing to do on your computer is a defrag on your hard drive twice.
