May I still say I'm just as concerned? (Since I'm in no way a Christian, theistic, or the least bit religious.) Not just about those in poverty though.
There's so many issues around the world... it's heartbreaking really.
Hell, check the right places and you have issues of child labor and slavery. It's sickening and saddening.

Considering a love of horror and comics, you'd think the two mixed for me, but I haven't really read much in the way of horror comics.
I (mostly) blame the lack of comic book shops near by.

Yeah, that's how I spend half my time in Barnes & Noble.
I'm saddened at a lack of full-out comic book stores in my area though, especially since I think that would be a good fit for a job.

Seeing quite a bit of X-Men, that's pretty cool.

Yeah, Year One really went into the character and trying to take a grounded approach, I think that helps: superhero comics are often at their best when they break away from campiness and being overtly kiddie.
Not to say every 90's anti-hero was a good comic, but it's those moments where they approach more real world areas whilst still being fantastical or delve into the characters... it shows the potential the comics have, one unfortunately not all that well explored. (Spider-Man often had good examples of this, he was one of the most inwardly turned heroes in my opinion.)

I hate to jump on a wagon, but Watchmen has an excellent handling of the whole superhero concept as well, mainly in that characters were borderline or straight-up sociopaths and vigilantes.

I'm kind of interested in that series you mention. I'll have to look it up.

Any favorites or ones you enjoyed in particular?

Personally loved what I had read of The Walking Dead, but haven't followed properly since after high school.

Aside from that:
Batman: Year One, The Long Halloween, Dark Victory, and The Killing Joke were all good, as was Brian Azzarello's Joker. Oh, and Hush, which I read almost entirely at work.
Batman/Scarecrow: Year One was also pretty good up until a rather lackluster ending. Still, the background information and story on Scarecrow was nice.
Spider-Man: Reign and Blue were pretty good too, but I wish there were more titles out. Spider-Man doesn't have enough good one-shots.

Well, there's me outing myself as a comic book geek here.

Is that to anyone in particular or just the thread in general?
