Well, my ex and I were trying to work things out for about a month (the whole reason why I hadn't committed to anyone on JSH, but if you remember from a post titled, "Doing the Right Thing," I let everyone who messaged me for any kind of going out, or talking, that I let them know this). Anyway, her family came to see her for thanksgiving (background, she moved to TX because her family can't afford to have her in CA). Thanksgiving day works out OK...she calls me in the morning, says hi, all that. Then I call her later, and she's at Wal-Mart with family shopping for Thanksgiving...this is where things take a turn for bad.

I let her go, because I could here her family, so I didn't want to interrupt. I eat my thanksgiving dinner here, entertain some friends and family, send her a text message. No reply. An hour passes, and I'm still mingling, send another one. No reply. 2 hours later, I send another one. No reply. Finally, at 10:50pm my time, about 1am Texas time, she calls me and says hi. I asked her why she didn't respond to any text messages, or at least drop a text message to say hi. She said she was busy, and if I'm going to be like this then forget it (hang up).

Now some background on us. We broke up (if you remember from a previous post) because she called me one Friday morning and said, "I just feel like breaking up with you." and that was that. 2 hours later, I received a text message from her saying, "I think I made a mistake." Long story short, she broke my trust, and wasn't putting any effort into the relationship. I told her, before I can be in a relationship with you again, you have to give me time to trust you again, and show me that you want a relationship by putting some effort.

Obviously, no texts, phone calls, or replies is not effort. The things that really makes me mad are the following:
1. She was coming back to CA in January, so it wouldn't be LDR any longer.
2. She put me through hell, arguments, asking for money, telling me I'm not what she expects, complaining that I don't look good, etc for that month we were working things out. Much more than I'm writing here, but you get the idea.

So, we haven't talked since that call. When she just said, "If you wanna be like that, then forget it. (hang up)"

So...why is this finally ending now? I did something stupid. I looked at her myspace, and there it was...someone new (keeping in mind, she wasn't talking to anyone else (or so she told me) until after thanksgiving).

I don't know what else to say...

Tis the season for depression.

If you're like most of us here on JSH, then you're single for the holidays, and feeling the pangs of loneliness.

How are you all coping? I know I'm pretty bummed.

1st ex - don't date foreign exchange students, they will eventually move back to their home country and leave you sad and alone.

2nd ex - don't date her, even though her friend who you were originally dating said she approves, in fact, insists you do it because you're a better match.

3rd ex - if she starts lying to you about who's she's talking to, and where she is, who's she's hanging out with, and doesn't want to talk to you that much anymore, she's seeing someone else.

4th ex - if she starts asking you for money...in small sums at first, then incrementally larger, but doesn't talk to you much when not asking you for money, or not in need of money from you, drop her like she's scalding.

Maybe a bit late to say (since you already have it), but I bought a portable HD by SanDisk with a metal loop attached to it (similar to most modern laptops). This way you can place a durable steel threaded wire through and lock it to something so someone can't physically make off with it that easily.

As for keeping someone out of it if they have access to it, your best bet is passwords and encryption as was posted before.

Which OS are you running? It sounds like you can't access certain folders because you don't have administrative access. You can change this by going to your Start menu, then clicking Control Panel. Click User Accounts, then User Accounts again. Choose your account and then "Change My Account Type." Make it Administrator.

The reason you can't even see the folders that are in your original account when you sign on with your new account, is your original account has it's files and folders sharing turned off. You can turn sharing on, by going to Start, then My Computer. Right click on your folder (should be at the top right if you're logged in with your original account). Right click it and choose Sharing and Security. Make sure Make this Folder Private is unchecked.

What OS are you running, and hopefully we can solve the rest of your problems.

In other words...DX10 is just another nail in Vista's already well nailed coffin.

Good Bye Vista! We all hated you anyway.

That's right, slated for release in 2008 is Windows XP Service Pack 3. While it is shrouded in Microsoft's closet of mystery and wonder, it has been leaked that it will help lighten the load on your hardware and thus give even greater performance.

Windows Vista SP1, also slated for a 2008 release will not lighten your hardware requirements, but will probably patch and fix most of the bugs as well as improved hardware support and drivers (thank the heavens! for all those still using Vista).

In an effort to force everyone to make the transition to Vista, Microsoft will not allow Windows XP to run DirectX 10. This sucks! Furthermore, XP's last DirectX will be DirectX 9.0c (if you have any recent games, you already have it installed), and that's about as good as your games will look. This means next gen graphics will only be achieved on Vista's resource hog OS, forcing you to have a quad-core with a minimum of 4GB RAM for the high end games, and 2GB recommended (1GB for all games out pre-Bio-Shock).

Eventually, I'm sure we'll start to see 8GB RAM implementations, and 1GB Video RAM will be the norm on a single card, while dual cards will be the recommended spec.ohwell

Truth be told, I don't remember exactly how to do it.

But for anyone willing to research it, I can give you a bit of a head start by narrowing it down. In registry editor, it was in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL

BUt I don't remember where it was after that.

I've been noticing a lot of threads about breaking up, etc. lately.

I'm just curious how many of us joined JSH after a break up. I know I joined in about 5 days after a break up.

...still broken up. brokenheart sad

They've changed the interface to ad-aware, but you can still find some old versions of it. Just choose to update your searches, but not the program and you can keep it running in "classic mode."

The new version isn't so bad...and once you're used to it, is just like the old one.

Cookies are used to store information such as your preferences on a site, authenticating, or remembering your items in an online shopping cart.

The downside is they can also be used for remembering userID and password (convenient but dangerous), tracking, and other types of malicious things.

It doesn't hurt you to delete cookies, but it might make some of the sites you registered on not remember you. All in all, Ad-aware, and Spybot do a pretty good job of deleting malicious ones, most of which come from porn sites that want to track your activity (for what purpose?).

Try doing a search on YouTube for: Tales of Mere Existence. Then find the one called How To Break Up (or break up, or something like that). It's funny AND true.
