Roosevelt tried to get National Health Care (no one denied) type programs 60 years ago. It still hasn't happened. Clinton failed at it as well. This will not pass.IMO

The passion showed at Town Hall Meetings is real. Ask a senior near you.

As far as where America's Health Care rates..those numbers are skewed. Like comparing apples to oranges. I have never experienced any other countries health care so I think ours is pretty good.

Like AndyB said....we can get treated for a runny nose, a poor sex drive, or a plethora of other "illnesses, and syndromes".

''I have never experienced any other countries health care so I think ours is pretty good?''

If you have never experienced any other countries health care how could you know whether our is better or not?

I like what I have..jmo Whether ours is the best or better..I do not know. I just have had few complaints with mine quality wise. Cost wise, I agree, it is expensive. So fix that part of it. Don't make wholesale changes to what we currently have. There are 350 plus million people here, 47 million do not have health care. So lets break down that 47 million. How many are unwilling to work, drug addicts, illegal alien parents with anchor babies...etc? Just asking.

I, like most Americans, try every trick in the "book" to avoid paying taxes. Don't we all?

As I look at other Government run programs (Medi-Care, Social Security, VA..etc) I do not see a good result of Government run programs. Cash for Clunkers is the latest. The Dealerships are not getting paid. The best and brightest doctors and nurses have made this country the best medical country. Turn it into a Government run entity and it will collapse. See you at the doctor's office.

A short term effect is better then a no term effect, IMO.

I'm in it for the long term...not a six month plan. jmo

Short term thinking is what got us into this mess.

Personally; I believe it has only one positive: stimulating the auto-industry. The negatives are obvious as in; environmental impact. Let's keep it clear and concise.

I'm down for some debating!

Cash for Clunkers is a hoax. A short term effect on a dead economy. More Government intervention. Cars, Health Care, Houses...and on and on.

In order to make a country a "Third World Nation" you have to break the people. Break them monetarily first. But the fact is we have been there done that. We will survive. jmo

Favre has earned the right to do what he wants. It's "His" legacy, he can keep it going or stop. I'm from Wisconsin and will remember his Packer days. jmo

So why no support for the proposals that would repeal the limits (or extend them) on the amount of pre-tax income into health savings accounts?

It seems to me that it would be a good idea and a boon for people that have recurring or predictable healthcare costs to cover those costs with pre-tax dollars. It would actually represent a tax cut for most people letting them reduce their federal income tax liability and provide people the ability to provide for the costs of their own healthcare costs.

win-win for the American People..

why not?? Why is there no support for this idea amoung Democrats on the Hill and in the White House???

Obama promised a tax cut for the middle class. There it is. Take it and go.

In theory it sounds good. However, if you have a health issue and are not able to work, what then? The assumption with this plan is that you can work. jmo

It's a free country..I see this as a small issue compared to burning the flag, protesting funerals..etc. I love freedom of speech..many of the protests actually make me laugh. Like this pic of Obama. It is kinda funny, you have to admit. Bush was slammed daily..it comes with the job. Thick skin required.jmo

She said what she thought was necessary for her to win the vote. That's how I look at it. She was competing against him.

Btw, I voted for her.

That's the problem with politics - no candidates stick to promises that get them elected. As I go back and read Obama's multitude of "change we can believe in" speeches I don't see how the man could face the public with a straight face. He even abandoned the most basic of all his promises - openness, transparency, and ethics.

grumble grumble grumble

I agree on the openness, and transparency. Ethics is a grey area to me. He's only been in office 8 months, time will tell. So far he has one month for every year the predecessor had. He gave a great speech or speeches. Hillary has promised to support him since joining his team. What she said before contradicts what she says now...jmo

The apathy is just astounding.

@ Giocamo. "Quote"

This bill is 1017 pages long. It is knee-deep in legalese and references to other federal regulations and laws. I have only touched pieces of the bill here. For instance, I have not considered the establishment of (1) 'Health Choices Commissioner' (Section 141); (2) a 'Health Insurance Exchange,' (Section 201), basically a government run insurance scheme to coordinate all insurance activity; (3) a Public Health Insurance Option (Section 221); and similar provisions. This is the evaluation of someone who is neither a physician nor a legal professional. I am citizen, concerned about this bill's effects on my freedom as an American. I would rather have used my time in other ways -- but this is too important to ignore. We may answer one question up front: How will the government ... pay for all this

I agree, good post. Can we not make minor changes to our current system and have it still be the best doctors in the world? Or do we basically start over, and take the free market out of it?
