i quit smoking yesterday.. and my nerves are like .huh i plan to stick to this.. anyone else try to quit.. have any advice??

I quit smokong 11 months ago. It was tough after smoking 1 1/2 packs a day for 35 years. From my own personal experience I know that you have to want to quit and only you can do that for yourself. For me it was minute by minute....after about a week it was hour by hour....day by day....month by month ...now I get cravings but very easy to deal with. It is true about water ...if you get a craving have a sip of water....it helped me. A toothpick to chew on helped for the most part. The best part is after even 2 weeks you will notice you can smell and taste things properly again and start to feel better.
Change your usual habits like your morning coffee....just wait a little longer to have it. I wish you good luck and hope it works for you. If you don't make it the first time try again until you make it.

Hi. Good luck with kicking the habit. I just started "Chantix". It's a pill whose chemical occupies the nicotine receptor sites in the brain. You continue to smoke in the beginning while taking the medication. Since there is no nicotine in the med, there are none of the dangers that doing so with the patch, gum, or lozenges has. After a few weeks on "Chantix" it is reported that there are no "nicotine fits". Still remaining is the behavior that is easier to deal with when you don't have the physical cravings.
The only side effect that I have had is a little nausea that passes after a while and VIVID dreams. Not bad dreams, I just feel like it's a movie. Quite entertaining actually. If I wake up in the middle of my sleep time, I always hope that I can pick up the dream where I left off.
I know people who were die hard smokers and they were able to successfully quit using Chantix.

hang in there,,,I quit smoking for 14 years after a 25 year 3 pack a day habit. Just recently I started up again (insanity, addiction), like I had never quit..it was really scary how easy it was to get back into the habit. Had a moment of sanity, threw away the smokes and have been smoke-free for 3 months now....
Just a day a time I guess..dont smoke today, dont worry about tomorrow...just get through today.
luck, luck, luck...

I too have tried twice to stop smoking. I tried Chantix but it made me violently nauseated. My brother is currently on the patch and is almost 3 weeks of being a non-smoker. I think the hardest part is the "habit". I've been so-called preparing myself by going to the gym and keeping gum in my purse. I will do this! I'm starting to hate the way my clothes smell. So, I just gotta make that leap and not have a cig available for me one of these mornings.

Awww good luck Steve I quit 5 years ago this Jan was smoking 3 packs a day.

What helped me the most since I did quit cold turkey was I cut straws up when I wanted a cig I grabbed a straw you see that motion from your hand to your mouth is one we miss the most. I would put the straw in my mouth chew on it for a while when finish throw it way like a cig. Also found things to keep you real busy cleaning ect when the urges were the worst.

Good Luck it is tough but can be done.

It is not cureable but most don't die from emphysema normaly some times a common cold that turns into Pneumonia is what they end up dying from. Both my grandfather and my Dad had emphysema.

When I tried to quit (note I said "tried" ohwell ) the hardest thing was keeping my hands occuppied; I played guitar until my fingers bled.

Do you play, stevil? You look like you should laugh

So my advice (for what it's worth): every time you feel like lighting up a smoke, grab a guitar instead!
