jeep - i think the technology is moving very rapidly.
i haven't used one in forever...actually. but if you
ask around you might be able to get some demonstrations
so you can see for yourself.

i'd think that there should be some pretty decent
inexpensive ones out there these days which would
do nicely for the purpose of having a conversation...

Thanks I appreciate it! flowerforyou

Maybe they have become a necessary evil? just wondering?huh
I think so... I think if you're going to be involved in internet dating, then you should have a current pic, and a webcam. I get irritated when people always want to see mine but they don't have one in return. It shouldn't be a one way thing. To many people try to hide and then it all comes out later. Most times I would have accepted someone anyway, it's the fact that they lied that pisses me off.

Oh absolutely you should use caution .. and I don't judge people by weight, race, or hair loss .. but they should not be telling me they are all buff and stuff if that is not the case .. I hike and rock climb and have lots of pics on my page and I still get questioned if I am real.. but obviously someone who is not physically fit could not keep up with my crazy mad climbing skills, if they were willing to try that would be thousands of points in my book.... I would gladly teach them.. but like I said just be who you are , don't change for anyone .. and you seem to have that quality about you.. but a lot of folks don't .. that is all I am saying .. it was not to insult anyone ..

Me too jill - so what if you have a few extra lbs say so .. or you are losing your hair .. I have stretch marks form having babies .. No one is perfect and I don't expect them to be .. it is the imperfections in most folks that I love..

Jill and shoes, not to be misconstrued, just expressing my opinion and observation:

too much emphasis is made on pictures and webcams;they should be used by the individuals discretion. I wont post millions of pics to suit anyones quota, webcam is out of the question for me, most conversations start innocent until someone takes it to another level - so I avoid both (I dont care what my friends look like, their character matters more to me) jmo

as for being overweight (whose standards should we follow) to you I may seem overweight, to me I feel just fine and dandy so who is right and who is wrong? I think to each their own - get to know each other, when both ready meet and start a friendship. If it develops into romance/love etc, great!!!
again jmo

I say a webcam is a must have item. There is nothing better than to see the laugh, the smile, the look of confusion, horror, whatever it might be, during a chat or even phone conversation.

It is the next best thing to being in person, and it truly gives you a sense of them, as much as a computer image can. You are more relaxed, and in an LDR it can help you feel like you're closer than you are. I know in my current situation, I always put lipstick on and checked my hair before I turned it on... and sometimes put perfume on, just as I would if we were meeting IRL. Might sound stupid, but for me it's how it was.
I was head over heels infatuated, like a schoolgirl. blushing

I've also used my cam for family to see my son, and he to see them. When you live far away from family it's truly interactive for kids, even if only for a few minutes.

All in all, it's just a way to further a connection. A good way. And it assures us the person we are talking to is at least the same gender and age they say they are...

you should also ask this as a question under the Technology topic...I'm pretty sure that I've seen suggestion threads before...but you should still "test drive" them and see for
yourself.

a lot of the folks here use them a lot

I think a cam can be a good idea and be helpful before the first meet. However, them not having a cam wouldn't realy throw a red flag for me, some people just are not very tech savy and you might miss out on an other wise great person.

I'd have to respond with using a webcam is no more difficult than installing and using a printer. It's ridiculously simple.

It takes no tech savvy... therefore RED FLAG...

U can usually tell if some is full of crap anyway.....
A web cam might show you how they look.....
But it doesnt necessarily show you how they really are....grumble

Do you think that people should use webcams to pre meet so to speak prior to meeting in person?? - nothing dirty just to see each other while you talk kind of thing...
Great idea but if I had a webcam I would probably be doing things I shouldnt be.......noway devil laugh laugh laugh noway

Nope.. It won't show you that. Only time will do that. Don't get the wrong impression here that myself or anyone else is saying it goes by looks. It's not that at all. It's reassurance at first and then keeping a connection after. It's hanging out when you can't be together.

When I am on the cam with my SO, I get to see him laugh at what I say or type or vice versa... and we can look into each others eyes.

It is a foundational concern for me. I can tell you if not for the cam, there were many dates I would not have gone on. I ran across a lot of people with a cam but no pics.
