Maybe they have become a necessary evil? just wondering? Me too jill - so what if you have a few extra lbs say so .. or you are losing your hair .. I have stretch marks form having babies .. No one is perfect and I don't expect them to be .. it is the imperfections in most folks that I love.. Jill and shoes, not to be misconstrued, just expressing my opinion and observation: too much emphasis is made on pictures and webcams;they should be used by the individuals discretion. I wont post millions of pics to suit anyones quota, webcam is out of the question for me, most conversations start innocent until someone takes it to another level - so I avoid both (I dont care what my friends look like, their character matters more to me) jmo as for being overweight (whose standards should we follow) to you I may seem overweight, to me I feel just fine and dandy so who is right and who is wrong? I think to each their own - get to know each other, when both ready meet and start a friendship. If it develops into romance/love etc, great!!! again jmo |

I say a webcam is a must have item. There is nothing better than to see the laugh, the smile, the look of confusion, horror, whatever it might be, during a chat or even phone conversation.
It is the next best thing to being in person, and it truly gives you a sense of them, as much as a computer image can. You are more relaxed, and in an LDR it can help you feel like you're closer than you are. I know in my current situation, I always put lipstick on and checked my hair before I turned it on... and sometimes put perfume on, just as I would if we were meeting IRL. Might sound stupid, but for me it's how it was. I was head over heels infatuated, like a schoolgirl. I've also used my cam for family to see my son, and he to see them. When you live far away from family it's truly interactive for kids, even if only for a few minutes. All in all, it's just a way to further a connection. A good way. And it assures us the person we are talking to is at least the same gender and age they say they are... |

But the camera adds ten pounds.

If you feel like you look good, you are going to project that in every other sense. yes, I can see how this would be nice for family and grandkids as well. My mom and husband winter in Arizona, so they would love to see and talk to my boys. |

I look at it like this- if I want to meet the person, I want to see them on cam. And I would take it as a HUGE HUGE TREMENDOUS red flag if they refused to do so..
I'd expect them to appear as they would when we met, and I'd expect nothing less. I do not use them for anything other than G or PG activities, although to each his own. My webcam was not expensive, I think about $20, and the picture is just fine to suit my purposes. |

jeep - i think the technology is moving very rapidly.
i haven't used one in forever...actually. but if you ask around you might be able to get some demonstrations so you can see for yourself. i'd think that there should be some pretty decent inexpensive ones out there these days which would do nicely for the purpose of having a conversation... |
