Sat in the sun in shorts & shirt just now, total meltdown! I did put on my sunscreen lotion factor 30 for protection. It's almost unbearable, hihi. But damn, am I happy the great weather is back, certainly after yesterday disaster here on the island. |

Crystal, I saw a few videos of the tornado on YouTube. Looked really bad and just what I experienced. Very scary! It was indeed pretty bad from what I've seen. This is what it looked like: And the worst bit is that it came totally out of the blue. From what I read the one in Budapest was predicted but also started out of nothing while people were watching fireworks. Both events were an eye-opener as I'd not thought a tornado to happen out of nothing. I saw a clip yesterday of people -mother & son- in their house while the tornado hit it. Their house is one of these with the roofs ripped off: It only lasted 20 seconds and that in itself is daunting. 20 seconds and your home is declared uninhabitable... They're still working on restoring things, fixing roofs & roof tiles, broken windows and whatnot. Biggest shock was seeing that day, late at night, how it moved right past/over my son's home. I didn't know it got there, but makes sense as the tornado 'landed' in the harbour which is a few streets behind him. People in the square in front of his home were sat outside at restaurant patios under these huge umbrellas that cover the entire patio area. They were caught by surprise, didn't see it coming because of the umbrellas I think, and because it came out of the blue. Someone had seen a wheelchair blow past, found the lady that had been in it somewhere in the street and helped her. At first I thought, "How can you be so daft to be outdoors so you can get hit by a roof tile?" concerning the one that got hit and died. But... that was almost at the direct spot where it landed out of the blue. The one that passed away there was a 73 yr old woman. Basically no one had warning prior, so no one was prepared for this. It's a true miracle not more got wounded or killed. And now there's millions of Euros of damage, but had it hit here in my area with all the campings... costs of that might've been lower but casualties would have been much higher. Many people in tents and caravans now in high season etc. I saw one short clip of a few terraced houses that had water coursing out of the windows, looking like Niagara Falls coming out of houses. Unbelievable! I'm assuming because of rainfall? But I do think the one in Budapest was stronger? Bigger? |

The tornado was predicated in Budapest although I didnβt know about the prediction at the time. The organisers of the fireworks decided to just go ahead with the display regardless.
Just as in the Netherlands, it too, came out the blue and was quite sudden. That day was the hottest yet. I had just eaten in a restaurant and decided to stay and watch the firework display on the banks of the Danube. About an hour before the tornado, I saw litter spiralling upwards which I thought very strange considering there was no wind at the time. When the tornado arrived I had about 2 mins notice. First thing was the fireworks were going haywire and shooting off everywhere, then the wind arrived and a minute later the rain. Everyone started running (and Iβm talking about tens of thousands of people) in all directions not knowing what was happening. People were falling in the rush to flee and getting trampled on. I started running in the direction of the streets with the Danube behind me but what I couldnβt understand was why the streets were like rivers. That was incomprehensible to me as the Danube was behind me! Tiles were rattling and flying off the roofs of buildings and then I found a shop window with the metal bars and I hung on for dear life. Those pics you posted of the aftermath was exactly the same in Budapest. Fallen trees, debris, overturned cars, damaged houses etc. I still have the newspapers I bought the following day. I can now appreciate the fury of Mother Nature. |

I can now appreciate the fury of Mother Nature. That must have been so overwhelming and terrifying! Thank you for sharing your story, I can only imagine it must still be quite something to tell. I saw it happened out of nothing there too in the clip I watched. Heard the screaming and saw people beginning to run etc. That's why I thought it was a stronger tornado than over here. Thank goodness you found something to hold onto and made it! I can only hope I will never be in the midst of anything like that. It was worrying enough to have my daughter live in Alabama & Kansas for a few years, having close calls a few times. And yes, the power of Mother Earth is enormous! Deserves respect for sure. PS even though I myself wasn't in it directly... tomorrow we can have lightning, like 2 days ago when it happened, and I feel a wee bit uneasy about that because of what happened. |

20C Started with sun, now overcast and rain is forecast for the afternoon. We shouldn't get the thunder & strong windgusts here, fingers crossed.
Not happy about rain though :/ And the thousands of people at Concert at Sea, stonethrow from me, likely won't be either... (100.000 people over the 3 days which is a helluva lot of people in the small available area at the beach) |

Now you can understand why it took years to get over it Oh yes I can understand even though I've been lucky enough so far to not get caught out by Mother Nature. Had plenty other traumatic experiences that had a very similar effect concerning it surfacing when something similar happened. Some things also with fear for life, mostly to do with the bleeping narcissist I was with. Anywho, so far no thunder, just rain. So I'm guessing the forecast was right. Thunder is more direction Germany's border this time. |

I'm walking in shorts & T-shirt, sliding door wide open AND the awning window (is that what it's called?) in the living room to have a bit of a draft through the house.
It's mostly cloudy now, occasional sun, but it is warm, and when the sun does come through it's sizzling hot! So far so good, hope this type of weather continues for a few months to come, hihi. And hope you'll get yours too!! |
