That's understandable Blondey. The exploitation of marine life for profit concerned me as well. However, in doing the research, I found out they rescue and rehabilitate the marine life. The ones that live there permanently aren't able to be re-entered into their natural habitat. Rather than be destroyed, they are given a safe place to live and are well cared for. All of the programs there include education to help the public learn the importance of marine life and to be more mindful when they are out in the ocean. The water they live in comes directly from the ocean as well.

They have one crocodile hybrid that was raised by humans. Someone thought it would be a good idea to breed an alligator with a crocodile. Igor can't be released because he is a hybrid. Jahna, a sea turtle, was attacked by ferral dogs in the Virgin Islands. Her eyes needed to be removed. She now gets to live in a safe environment and uses her other senses to get around. Bella, a sea lion, was left beached as a pup in California. She has a neurological condition and if released, wouldn't stand a chance. These are just a few of the ones that have been rescued.

Reading all this touched my heart and gave me a good feeling about being a part of something bigger, more meaningful, than other jobs I had. They serve a higher purpose other than to just bring in money. Thousands of people come from all over the world to visit the theme park. And each one of them get educated on how human ignorance, and stupidity, can hurt and destroy our marine world.

We have the "A Seal" here where they take care of seals that are wounded or otherwise in need of temporary shelter. When they are able and healthy they are set free into the North Sea again :) One day I want to go see as they announce it and you can watch from a distance. Not now unfortunately with the new lockdown and stuff.

Another nearby where you can learn about sea life and the Delta works also has space where they can nurture dolphins back to health to then be released again.

I remember visiting the dolphinarium with the kids when in my 30s. It is great to see but heartbreaking too. I suspect those animals cannot be set free anymore but I do hope they won't get new ones in to jump through hoops for people.

In any case, wonderful they do that work and good you researched that. And of course... Congrats on the new job!!

Thanks Crystal It was like that at Hawks Cay. The dolphins they have there couldn't be released. At Theater of the Sea, some of the animals were shipped in from the Marine Mammal Care Center, in California, because they can no longer survive in the ocean. There's a turtle hospital down here that rehabilitate turtles. So many sea turtles are hurt from boaters. The hospital also has a public program, that helps fund the hospital, as well as educate the people.

Hahaha, I guess I am pretty passionate about this. I feel so passionate anytime I start thinking about or talking about protecting and preserving the animal kingdom, be that marine life or wildlife. Perhaps this position is getting me one step closer to doing just that?

It's definitely different than what I've been doing. Hopefully it will turn out to be the perfect job for me.

I always feel VERY passionate about helping out the oceans and marine life! Like the other day watching this great project from a Dutch guy to clean up the Pacific Garbage Patch.
But also whales, dolphins, seals etc.
I did not know there were so many sea turtles there? Wow!
I'm sure you're going to have a whale of a good time there, hihi.

The job didn't work out. I ended up getting something less than a mile from home. I'm not crazy about it, but it will do until I find something that fits better.

I keep forgetting it's mid November because it's so warm here. I'm going to miss that first snow fall. Although I'm not going to miss getting up in the morning and having to brush snow off the car

Thanks Crystal It was my decision, not theirs. When I was getting ready to leave for work Friday morning, it was storming and there was an accident that nearly doubled the commute. The reality of dealing with that on a daily basis five days a week woke me up. As much as I would like to think 10 to 12 hour days between working and driving or taking the bus wouldn't bother me... it would drive me nuts, especially when I'm only getting paid for 8 of those hours.

The new job sux! I can't stand how they do things or how they treat me, it's rather rude. It will do, until I find something else. I have an interview today with a hotel a couple miles down the road.

Aw, sorry to hear that the job at the Marine place didn’t work out River and also sad to hear about your current job too. I always factored in commuting time too when I considered work placements in the past.

I normally figure in commuting time too, and did at first. That's why I turned it down the first time. But then I convinced myself it wouldn't matter because I really wanted the job. Guess I should have went with my first instinct, it's usually correct, haha.

That’s too bad about the new job! I hope your interview went well and you get the job that is better for you. It’s nice to not have to drive very far, that’s for sure. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! I have some family coming in from GA. It will be nice to see them
