I made it to Rock Springs, safe and sound. The weather cleared up right after I left Jackson. It rained a little going through the mountain pass, but then it was pretty sunny the rest of the way.
I'm exhausted and the wait for oil changes is about two hours right now. So I'll go first thing in the morning. Hopefully the weather will be clear so I can leave right after. Otherwise I'll be staying an extra night. |

Thanks Slim. I wouldn't have room for them anyways, my car is packed full. You still have the same vehicle you had when I met you? Looks like there wasn't much room in that vehicle. |

Well, you made it! Safe and sound :)
Enjoy where you are as much as you can! If I may ask a question... just out of curiosity... I learnt when my girl was in the US that many hotels & motels have bedbugs. Up till that moment I didn't know these existed for real. She said you have to check upfront if you want to know if it's rated clean. Do you do that as well? |

Hi Poetry Yes, I still have the Rav4. And no, there's no really a lot of room in it. At least not when I'm moving pretty much everything I owned. I ended up donating my little refrigerator I got at the beginning of the season. I just couldn't find a way to make it work with having all my belongings with me. Next summer I'll be able to only take what I need for the season, so it will be much easier. |

She said you have to check upfront if you want to know if it's rated clean. Do you do that as well? Thanks Crystal. Where I'm at right now is just a stop over, I won't be doing any sightseeing while I'm here. I stayed here on my way to the Teton National Park, so did get to enjoy the area then. I'll be heading out right after breakfast, shortly after 6am. There's a major storm heading this way so the goal is to get the heck out of here, haha. Bedbugs can certainly be a concern in some of the motels, but not as much as people think. Of all the motels I've stayed in throughout my life, and there have been more than I can count, I've never ran across bedbugs. I've had some filthy rooms, but never little critters in the bed. I usually read the reviews for all the places I stay at. The few that I didn't, and just went with it because it was so cheap, it's been about 50/50 as to how nice or bad the room was. Pretty much every motel has reviews. What I generally look for is are there more positive reviews than negative, what the negative comments are about, some people complain about stupid things. They want red carpet treatment for very little money. If the majority of the reviews are negative, and everyone is basically saying the same thing, then I take more stock in it and will avoid that place. |

Good to hear from you.
How long are you expecting to drive for today and whereβs your next destination? |

I'm not sure Delightful. I was hoping to get to Ogallala, Nebraska. It's about 426 miles from here.
But I was just looking at the weather report and right now there are wind gusts up to 50 mph. There's a wind advisory all day, for pretty much my entire route. I'm delaying my decision about traveling today until daylight. With high winds and not being able to see the road conditions, it could be dangerous to travel in the dark. It might be better to wait out the storm and leave tomorrow? I'd at least get well rested. And get to see a little snow before I go. |

I think youβre right. Iβd hang back a day as well and thatβs a lotta miles to be driving in those conditions. No need to take risks if you donβt have to.

Yeah, it's a tough call, haha. Drive today with high winds and take the chance of a semi-truck slamming into me, or wait until tomorrow and drive on snow covered roads, lol.
But by morning, the Interstate should be well plowed and salted, with less wind. I'd have to wait until daylight tomorrow, which is a bummer. But once I get to the warmer climate, I can leave before daylight. I like starting out an hour or two before sunrise, there's less traffic and I get to my destination earlier in the afternoon. |

Hmm. Difficult decision to make Iβm sure youβll do what you feel best

I'll assess it when the sun comes up. If I decide to chance it today, I can always stop before my destination if the driving conditions are poor.

Okay, it's getting light out. Roads are clear, there was no snow or rain last night. Snow isn't expected for another hour or two, or three, haha.
So I'm heading out now. Hopefully I'll stay ahead of it like I did yesterday. If driving conditions become unsafe, I will stop short of my destination and camp out for the night... in a motel of course Have a great day everyone |

Makes sense to check, I was just curious :) My girl did end up in a place that had bedbugs although it had claimed to be clean. And even though she'd already driven for hours on end, she left right away and continued driving. I didn't know at the time, she told me a while back. The nr of hours she drove that day/night were insane!! All because of bedbugs. Glad we don't have 'em although all creepy crawlers are closing in here in Europe too. Didn't know you'd been there before. If Google is correct it has 2 Mexican restaurants, haha. I tend to check where you are on Google Maps, just to have a bit of an idea of where it is. I'm stalking you on Google, hahaha. Or more like virtually hitching a ride with you. |

Well I'm stuck in Wamsutter for the night. It's about 70 miles from Rock Springs, and only took me 3 and a half hours to get here
Roads about thirty miles East of Rock Springs started getting nasty. High winds, blowing snow, and icy roads. I stopped at a rest area about 45 miles East of Rock Springs and the lady working there told me about an accident that was further East. Two truckers collided and the road had been closed for a few hours. It was turning around and going back 45 miles, or continuing East for about 25 to 30 miles for the next motel. Between the rest area and the motel spot I was driving 10 to 15 mph. Roads were covered with ice. But I made it, didn't dare go any further. Next stop would have been another 38 miles and would have taken me over four hours to get there at that speed. Rooms were tiny so I upgraded to the adorable little cottage. Figured if I'm going to be snowed in, I may as well be comfortable. And it wasn't much more than the room, so what the heck. It's a remote little town, not many restaurants... one Mexican, lol. And Loves Truck Stop, they usually have decent food. Plus I have breakfast and lunch fixins, so I'm all set for a cozy snowed in adventure. |
