Who is the best man or woman you have ever met or admired in real life?
Why? Please choose only one person.

My parents, because they never let me down, even if I acted like a fool sometimes

While there have been many 'best' people in my life the reasons they were 'best' are relative to the context of the experience.
Each offered a uniqueness others at the time did not posess yet all had uncommon benevolence of some sort.

Oh sorry, it was impossible to pick one person. My parents are such a strong unit, not possible to separate them.

Well, aren't married couples supposed to be 'one'? :grinning:

I knew you could not pick one... It is difficult. :grinning: I would like to know what stands out for being the best in the eyes of other people.

A lady I met when I was a teenager. I was friends with her daughter, and moved in to get away from my abusive father. She treated me like a daughter and was a like a mother to me throughout my entire life, through thick and thin. A lady who I very much admire and who showed me that humans are indeed capable of unconditional love.

My oldest sister. She was the smartest, most wise, and most alive person I've ever known. She was and always will be my favorite person on the planet, ever.

I will exclude family and friends, too many things I admire in many of them and would not be able to choose. One famous person I admire a lot, from what I heard about him, is Keanu Reeves. As an actor, for his interpretation in Matrix but also some older films like Point Break. As a person, because from what I've read he has remained a rather normal guy, uses public transport and talks with people, shares the fortune he makes with every film with staff and other people, has a wife who is not a top model, sign that he found something else in her than just a body. He seems a very good person, maybe I can ask to send me a million or two.

 I have to say my dad

Dad had an accident when he was only 19 years old and doing his National Service in the RAF. The accident would change his life.

Dad was going from home to duty on his bicycle down a notorious hill, when a car caught him. Dad was in hospital for months. He suffered extensive injuries, a paralysed left arm, and limited movement in his neck and many scars. Dad had been left handed.

But he never gave up and he was sent to a rehabilitation centre where they taught him to do things with one arm/hand. It also showed dad that there were people in this world far worse off than him, and he was lucky to be alive.

My dad met my mum while he was rehabilitating at the local YMCA, and a few years later they got married. Dad did almost everything an able bodied man could do, he even changed nappies when my brother and I were babies, and there were no disposables in those days! And it wasn’t that dad was trying to prove anything to anybody, just to himself. He even wore lace up shoes!

Throughout his life my dad was loved and admired by everyone that knew him.

Dad was the most selfless person I have ever known.

He was a wonderful dad and my best friend.

May sound weird, but the best person in a sense was my narcissistic ex. He was abusive in the broadest sense of the word.
It was because of him that I FINALLY learnt that big big lesson that until being with him I'd been to scared to learn.
Because the way he treated me I had no choice. It was either drown or learn to swim.
Without that I could very well still be fumbling around.

The best is not per say the nicest. We got a saying: gentle healers make festering wounds.

My middle child age 17
Nearly lost them to a medical illness 9 years ago that we didnt know at the time they had ,
And a few more times since .
Seeing the awful states they have been in with it , what it’s done to them and how it’s affected them .
They are also transgender male to female .
And have been waiting for nearly 3 years just to be seen for a first appointment by the child gender clinic , it’s been a very tough at times for them .
Loosing their friends when they were at school .
Everything they have been through has been truly heartbreaking and they still have such a long journey , one of which I will be their every step of the way , holding their hand .
They are also now currently battling with not wanting to live anymore .
But My child is my absolute hero , and such and inspiration for me , when I am struggling with something I think of them cus I know all the stuff they have been through ,
and even though they are battling with depression and suicidal thoughts I am routing for them all the way that they will get through .
So much **** for an adult to go through but for a child to deal with it all , it’s been really hard for hem to go through and for me as a parent to see them go through all this ( obviously what I have write is only the very short side of it ) .

My child is so loving and caring and is always the first one to help me with anything and care for me when I’m sick .

So much admiration for them and I’m so proud

Next time, better go to a swimming pool and get some lessons there though... one does not necessarily need to learn the hard way!

Dr Armani Ballour  .. she ran an underground field hospital for two years in war torn Syria . Not only did she deal with the consequences of war around her but also the challenge of being a woman in a position of leadership . So much admiration for her bravery and determination .
