In fictional worlds we see human behavior focused on the intent of the story.
Good and bad is always separated.

In real life we encounter many shades of grey in people.
There are people with a predilection for bad and others with a predilection for good.
In society, there can not be a pure utopia nor a pure dystopia.
In people, the same applies.
Nobody is purely bad and noone is purely good.
Just like society, people are a mixture of both. Some darker shades of grey some lighter shades of grey.

Wisdom is gained by experience.
Deeds define how others judge you.
However, deeds seen by one person in a specific time frame may not be the deeds seen by others over a different time frame.

Before you met someone, they might be known as caring and warm.
You experience them as hostile and rude.
That person is not good or bad, they just don't like you.

Your child is warm and loving.
In 10th grade, he gets suspended for fighting and bullying.
He is still warm and loving, his experiences outside your frame of reference are such that his reaction to certain others becomes bad.
He doesn't go to school wanting to fight but has to fight for reasons he determines at the time.
He isn't a bad person, he isn't a good person, he's just a person making choices.
Anyone can be good or bad depending on their choices.
Sometimes its easier to feed the monster than to feed the angel.
Sometimes the monster appears to be the angel.
Sometimes the angel turns out to be the monster.
Wisdom defines the angels and the monster.
Some people have poor wisdom.

We military struggle with this concept.
I know how to kill.
I have killed.
I could kill again.
Am I bad?
I choose not to kill.
Am I good?

Generally, people think its their job to define others.
If you define me on your terms does that make me bad or good?
Do YOU live behind my eyes?

In life, you encounter many different types of people.
You 'align' with some and you 'avoid' others.
Your wisdom guides you.

You see your boss as a good person.
You really enjoy his company.
Then you find out he goes home at night and beats his family.
Until you knew this, he was a good person.
Now he is a bad person.

Flip the coin.

You see your boss as a bad person.
He's mean and rude to you at work.
Then you meet him at a social function and he is warm and friendly to everyone.
Is he now a good person?

This is judgemental prejudice relative to the observer.
If you expect the worst from someone, you won't be disappointed.
This is because you focus on the bad.
If you focus on the good in a 'bad person' many times you will be surprised unless you are blinded from seeing the good by your own expectations.

Darn Tom laugh

Flip the coin.

your right ...to many scenario ...

for instants yrs ago ... I gave this old man a ride into town or home ...when I would see him as I was going to an from work ... thought he was nice enough ... seemed to be to me anyway ... well for some reason... I told a friend about it ... they new about everyone in this small town lived there for ever ... they said you better stop ... well know one tells me to do anything I think is right laugh but I asked why ... well come to find out he beat his wife's head in ...as he was beating it against the wall ... shocked said your joking with me right... they said no I am not ... again your teasing me ...no I am not ... well I stopped giving him a ride ... personally I did not see it ... but I was blinded by how he was such a gentlemen to me ...

I also feel even at this age ... I can be gullible... I have always said or tried to ...there is something good in everyone ... know matter how much you don't like them for what ever reason ...
but I have been wrong before ...

In order to have good or bad you must define what good and bad is.

Depending on who you talk to, their religious beliefs, moral code, age, race, nationality, political views, upbringing, wealth, sexual preference, gender, social status,ect... it will be different.

They may agree on some or even most topics but they will never agree on everything.

So the question has no answer. The only right answer is the one you want to hear.

No, it has an answer. It is false. There is no grey area. It is either true or false.

These words were once said to me by someone. He said "Good people see the good in me, bad people see the bad in me."

But it is interesting to discuss it....

So you're saying that if a "good person" saw you burn a child alive that good person would believe you did it for a good reason.

If a "bad person" saw you donate ever cent you own and go on a mission trip to help starving people around the word, that bad person would believe you are doing this for bad reasons.

I totally get it now.

So if a person saw you steal an apple to feed a hungry child, the good person sees you as bad for stealing and the bad person sees you good for stealing... or is it the other way around?

You are thinking too hard. Bad people see good and bad. Good people see bad and good.
It may not be the answer to the universe, but it the answer to my thread I started.
If you wish to philosophize more, you can start a thread in the philosophy area/section.
Happy days people :rose::smiley:

Good and bad certainly do not exist materialisticaly. They're all subjective. People define what's good and bad to them. And they also define who they see as good and bad.

Our history is the story of conflict of interests of individuals. When interests differ, good and bad are born. So to answer your question, good people see good and bad both.
Bad people see good and bad in others too.

For example- A thief who steals to feed himself so that he can survive is doing good according to him, its the question of his survival. He also sees other thieves as good. He is seen as a bad guy from the one he steals.

In the woods, if you're lost and you don't have any food you will have to hunt other animals for food. You're good from your perspective since you have to survive but from perspective of the one you kill, you're pure evil.

A serial killer who has no regard for human life kills many people for pleasure. He doesn't see it as "bad" since he has no sense of morality. Society sees himself as bad because he is a threat to us.

I think you made that word stigmatzm up....

Stigmatism, another word for astigmatism, is defined as a condition of the eye or lens where rays of light from a single point do not focus upon on a single point on the retina.

stigmatic
relating to a stigma or stigmas, in particular constituting or conveying a mark of disgrace.

stigma
a mark of disgrace associated with a particular circumstance, quality, or person.

Social stigma is the disapproval of, or discrimination against, a person based on perceivable social characteristics that serve to distinguish them from other members of a society. Social stigmas are commonly related to culture, gender, race, intelligence, and health. ~ Wikipedia

bad people can't truly understand good -but can know enough to manipulate it.

good people recognize and promote good -but they can and should learn to recognize bad

That depends on how you interpret it; it's subjective based on your experience. I simply go by each person's behavior towards me rather than agree with a broad statement.
