7c (feels like 3c) Wet and wild out there. Wind and rain warnings for much of the country. The River Irwell is in full spate and the sandbags are out along the two mile stretch of road into the village. One hundred homes and businesses flooded so far and rising. I hope it won't get too bad! We have parts that flood too, but I think in England it can get worse because it isn't so flat? And that effing wind... it doesn't seem to go this year. Today 6Bft, tomorrow 7Bft. And often it gets worse than what they forecast, so I'm going to put the ratchet strap back on the gates again. Better to be cautious I think.

I didn't know this one was going to be so bad, had not heard of it until you mentioned it, otherwise I would've put the 2nd strap around the gates :/ But at least there's one on 'em. Fingers crossed! |

Lot of disappointed people here in the south: carnaval started Friday night (Catholic thing) and today is the day of the parades. Some wagons were 10 meters tall, so they had to cancel all parades everywhere due to the wind. People work for months on these wagons, everyone looking forward to the parade. Some people here like wind (nutters, usually the ones that been born and raised in this coastal province), but many are getting utterly fed up with it. Many have to cycle to work, which is barely possible so they end up having to walk. One fell with her bike, hurt herself, her bike damaged. It really interferes with normal life. |
