10 million signatures. WOW!
Rep. Rashida Tlaib: 'We now have a crooked CEO in the Oval Office' "So many people are focused on what happened before he took the oath of office,” she said. “What I am more concerned [about], and what the American people and the American public are concerned about is: After he took the oath of office, what has he done?” She added: “We have a corporation running our government right now.” Tlaib touted 10 million signatures on a petition calling for impeachment, which she received Thursday from advocacy groups, including MoveOn and Need to Impeach". http://www.yahoo.com/news/skullduggery-rashida-tlaib-trump-impeachment-123916072.html Put this into perspective. Hillary Clinton won the popular vote in 2016 by something over 3 million votes. Now, 3 times that amount has signed a petition wanting him impeached. When you look at it in numbers, Trump is not that popular at all. Only in his mind. And only by a few. |

Rashida Tlaib On Holocaust: 'There's Always Kind Of A Calming Feeling' "Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) has made controversial comments on the Holocaust and Israel that will put more pressure on the Democratic leadership to denounce House members making anti-Semitic comments. Tlaib, the first Palestinian-American Congresswoman, said Sunday that thinking of the Holocaust provides her a "calming feeling." The lawmaker made the comments on the "Skullduggery" podcast [29:45 mins]of Yahoo News, in an episode titled "From Rashida with Love," while discussing the Israel-Palestinian conflict. She also made more comments on the origin of the conflict that revealed an imperfect understanding of its history. Top WH adviser Kudlow admits US consumers pay tariffs
"WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House's top economic adviser has acknowledged that U.S. consumers and businesses pay the tariffs that the Trump administration has imposed on billions of dollars of Chinese goods, even as President Trump himself insisted in a tweet, incorrectly, that China pays". http://www.apnews.com/b8b68b10a50d4b509c31b7e9428b0f11 You would think by now the general public would already know this. Prices on most everything has gone out the roof. Why the extra cost? Somebody has to pay for Trumps Tariffs. It may as well be us. When Trump headed off to college in 1964, work to reduce tariffs had begun nearly two decades earlier with the adoption of GATT in 1947 as a response to what punitive tariffs did to the world economy leading up to WWII. Since it can take years and even decades for the effects of these agreements to become apparent in the world economy, and then subsequently studied by economists, it wouldn't surprise me if the President never learned about the damaging effects of tariffs. It also would not be out of the ordinary for someone who attended college in those years to be ignorant of the wealth generation and increased consumer purchasing power associated with free trade. What IS surprising is the fact that spending his subsequent 50 years in the business world didn't seem to tip him off to something that kids in ECO101 know from day one. The costs of tariffs are passed on to the consumer, which in turn lowers purchasing power. With consumer disposable income stretched, demand for goods and services decreases causing economic contraction. Less revenue means equity markets are eventually affected and the consequences ripple out from there. For a guy that loves patting himself on the back when the stock market hits new highs, or positive GDP is reported, these current "negotiating tactics" are economic and political Russian Roulette. |

China says will never surrender to outside pressure as U.S. trade row heats up
"BEIJING (Reuters) - China's foreign ministry said on Monday the country will never surrender to external pressure after Washington renewed its threat to impose tariffs on all Chinese imports in an escalating trade dispute. The trade war between the world's top two economies escalated on Friday, with the United States hiking tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods after President Donald Trump said Beijing "broke the deal" by reneging on earlier commitments made during months of negotiations". http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trade-china/china-says-will-never-surrender-to-outside-pressure-as-u-s-trade-row-heats-up-idUSKCN1SI0B8 Trump Seeks New $15 Billion Subsidy To Protect Farmers From His Own Trade War "President Donald Trump is seeking an additional $15 billion in U.S. subsidies in an effort to protect farmers from the devastating impact of his trade war with China. That’s on top of $12 billion already earmarked for the farmers to help them weather the fallout". That would be an additional bill for U.S. taxpayers already shouldering the cost of increased tariffs in the form of higher costs for products and parts from China. http://www.yahoo.com/huffpost/trump-trade-war-15-billion-farm-subsidy-024200505.html Trump tariff policy to now cost the US $27 Billion because 'trade wars are good and easy to win' "More failures in Trump trade policies with vague promises of continued discussion as he demonstrates again a now familiar cluelessness about the US economy. Adding $15 billion in farm subsidies to a $12 billion program of subsidies that dated from the Great Depression makes a farce of whatever Trumpian greatness was promised to ‘Great Patriot Farmers". http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/5/12/1857197/-Trump-tariff-policy-to-now-cost-the-US-27-Billion-because-trade-wars-are-good-and-easy-to-win |

Immigrants and crime: New study rebuts Trump claims
"U.S. cities that take in larger numbers of undocumented immigrants do not see a correlation with higher rates of violent and property crime, a new study by the Marshall Project and the New York Times has found. The study debunks one of President Trump’s favorite talking points, that undocumented immigrants represent a criminal risk to Americans. That idea has been central to Trump’s political rise and was articulated when he announced his candidacy for president on June 16, 2015". http://www.yahoo.com/news/study-rebuts-trump-claims-linking-undocumented-immigrants-to-higher-crime-rates-181621537.html Trump Is Angry That the FBI Won’t Endorse His Theory of Victimhood "Trump wants the FBI to endorse his own theory of victimhood—and it won’t. Worse, the FBI was embedded in the Mueller investigation. The FBI received, and still holds, whatever information the investigation gathered about Russia’s interference in the 2016 election, including potential answers to the all-important question: Why? Why was Vladimir Putin so eager to help Trump into the presidency? Why did Russia care so much, and run such risks for him?" http://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/05/trump-wants-chris-wray-buy-his-theory-victimhood/589333/?utm_medium=offsite&utm_source=yahoo&utm_campaign=yahoo-non-hosted&yptr=yahoo |

Trump will want to be re-elected, but democracy does not apply to China.
For that reason, I suspect that China will win the trade 'war' because their leader isn't looking to win an election. If they sit it out for a little longer, it is possible (likely in my opinion) that Trump will be replaced by a democrat who might well have different ideas about trade. Perhaps the 'pain' (!) will come to the USA after all - it surely will if that madman manages to fiddle the numbers and get elected for a second term! |

Washington and Wall Street wake up to the reality that Beijing is happy to walk away "As Wall Street reels from the shock of a trade war exploding to new heights in the form of tariffs and counter tariffs, there’s another reality that is setting in — that China seems happy to walk away from trade talks". http://www.marketwatch.com/story/washington-and-wall-street-wake-up-to-the-reality-that-beijing-is-happy-to-walk-away-2019-05-13?siteid=yhoof2&yptr=yahoo I mentioned this in another post. I look for China to tell Trump, "FU" at any time. "We don't have to export to the USA at all. We have Russia and lots of other countries to export to". Go get your goods someplace else. That would end Trump's tariff war on the spot. If China decided to call in some of the billions we owe them, They could ruin our economy almost overnight. Trump keeps poking the wrong bear. |

GOP scrambles to ease blow from Trump's trade war
"WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump's allies on Capitol Hill are scrambling to soften the blow from his trade war with China amid mounting anxiety from farm-state lawmakers that the protracted battle and escalating tariffs could irreparably damage their local economies". Vice President Mike Pence met privately Tuesday with Senate Republicans for a second week in a row and urged them to stick with the White House. Senators were working with the administration to craft a relief package for farmers and ranchers, some $15 billion that Trump announced this week would be coming soon. Details of the package remained in flux. http://www.apnews.com/3b31ba3a8e414e4983d2294def79f55b 15 billion more out of the taxpayer pocket just to fund Trump's trade war. We get screwed so the farmers don't have to be. This is Trump. This is your Republican party. Billions for a wall we don't need. Billions for a trade war we didn't have to have. Trump Versus Obama on Their Economic Policies "Donald J. Trump, a Republican, is the 45th U.S. president. His term is from 2017 to 2021. Like most Republican presidents, he promised to cut taxes, reduce the budget and trade deficits, lower the national debt, and boost defense spending". "Barack H. Obama, a Democrat, was the 44th president. His two terms were from 2009 to 2017. Like most Democratic presidents, he promised to increase taxes on high-income families, improve healthcare coverage, and strengthen regulations. Here's a comparison of their policies in seven critical economic areas: defense, recession recovery, health care, trade, regulations, the national debt, and climate change". http://www.thebalance.com/trump-vs-obama-economic-policies-4142333 |

Trump and the National Debt
"Instead of Eliminating the Debt, Trump Will Add $8.3 Trillion". "During the 2016 presidential campaign, Republican candidate Donald Trump promised he would eliminate the nation’s debt in eight years. Instead, his budgets would add $9.1 trillion during that time. It would increase the U.S. debt to $29 trillion according to Trump's budget estimates". http://www.thebalance.com/trump-plans-to-reduce-national-debt-4114401 Trump Tower Is Now One of NYC’s Least-Desirable Luxury Buildings "(Bloomberg) -- Trump Tower, once the crown jewel in Donald Trump’s property empire, now ranks as one of the least desirable luxury properties in Manhattan. The 36-year-old building has been turned into a fortress since Trump won the presidency, ringed with concrete barriers and the two main entrances partially blocked off. It hasn’t been substantially updated in years. And Trump’s name has been a huge turnoff in liberal New York City". http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-05-14/trump-tower-is-now-one-of-nyc-s-least-desirable-luxury-buildings William Barr Delivers Chilling Message to FBI for Trump "If you come at the king, you best not miss. That’s the message Attorney General William Barr is sending to FBI agents, whether intentionally or not. Barr has authorized yet another investigation into the FBI’s conduct probing links between Russian election interference and the Trump campaign. Even though two other entities are already investigating the same matter, reports indicate that Barr has appointed Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham to investigate the origins of the Russia probe. In doing so, Barr is playing into the hands of President Donald Trump, who has already characterized Durham’s assignment as an investigation into “how that whole hoax got started". The most charitable interpretation of Barr’s behavior in defense of Trump is that he believes strongly in a “unitary executive,” where the president can order any investigation he wants. But in his quest to protect the presidency, Barr is damaging our national security. His complicity in Trump’s efforts to disparage the FBI will make it more difficult for agents to do their jobs and could discourage investigations of those in power. http://www.thedailybeast.com/william-barr-assignment-of-john-durham-to-look-at-russia-probe-sends-chilling-message-to-fbi-for-trump |

It could still end up being a defining test of presidential power. Trump took the rare move last week of asserting executive privilege to keep secret the millions of pages of evidence that special counsel Robert Mueller gathered in his investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election, in addition to portions of the final report that were blacked-out in the version made available to lawmakers and the public. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2019/05/15/president-donald-trump-executive-privilege-fight-congress/1170333001/ Watergate prosecutor says Trump will ‘pay political price’ for resistance on Mueller report "‘Why does he fear Mr. Mueller’s testimony before a congressional committee that obviously has the ability to provide bipartisan questioning?’ a Watergate prosecutor asks". http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-mueller-report-watergate-nixon-pelosi-a8909171.html White House rejects cooperating in Congress 'show trial' "Washington (AFP) - The White House on Wednesday branded Democrat-led congressional efforts to probe alleged wrongdoing by President Donald Trump a "show trial" and said it would refuse demands to cooperate". http://www.yahoo.com/news/white-house-rejects-cooperating-congress-show-trial-192927038.html Barr to Pelosi: ‘Did You Bring Your Handcuffs? That's exactly what's going on between Trump, Barr, And members of Congress. Trump and Barr are thumbing their nose at them. They are playing with them. Kinda like the renter from he11 that refuses to leave. They squat and then try to turn and twist the law and play it such a way that the property owner winds up looking like the bad guy. The squatter winds up paying ZERO rent and the owner winds up paying the squatter 10,000 dollars just to get him out. All these people have been served. But they thumb their noses at the subpoena. The Democrats need to stand up and let them know they mean business. Start by passing out fines to each one. Once they start having to pay these hefty fines, they will start talking. And if they don't, Lock them up. If the Democrats expect to win in 2020, they better start showing people what they are made of. They can do that by backing up their word. If they really want to get to the bottom of this, fine them. And if they have to lock them up. If they aren't careful they will make themselves look like the weaker party. They will wind up letting blowhard Trump cause them to look like clowns. Right now Trump is the clown. But I believe he will try to turn it around on them. Really, he's already trying. If they don't back up the law that says, "When Congress asks for something, they get it" so to speak. Trump and company continue to slide by, Come 2020 I fear no one will take them seriously. |

Trump should tell Americans the truth about his trade war — if he understands it himself
