Many dating sites are geared for Dating. You just have to discover them.

Oh, so i guess POF, Match, eHarmony, OurTime, Zoosk....those aren't "dating sites geared for dating"?

Humm she did not say that those sites you listed were not geared for dating she said you have to find the ones that are!

Many so called Dating sites like POF and DH and even Mingle are not just Dating sites they are Dating/Social sites and it's why many have forums in order to pass the time and get to know other members while you search for those that are there for actually Dating~~~ But the fact is you will find many Dating/Social sites that some just join to interact within the forums to pass the time..

Well, the question remains then..which ARE actual dating sites?
All the ones I listed promote their site *as* a dating site, so one would reasonably think that is what they are....not a "social" site for idle chit chat to pass the time...

I find very few are actually geared to dating but are instead geared to forming a monogamous relationship. An actual dating site would provide an opportunity for a Friday evening dinner partner or someone to attend a Saturday event. I have yet to find a suitable dating site. I think this is because most women are looking for relationships not dating.

When I was a teenager there was a 2 digit number you could dial on the phone that gave you connection to a 'party line'. I actually met with people I originally met thru the party line.
It was like an old internet chatroom but live audio talking.

When I was married, I was not looking for anyone.
I still went to chatrooms and discussion forums to chat with people.
I actually met some of those people too.
I NEVER went to dating sites or forums associated with dating sites.
I had stumbled across a few and they struck me as insane.

When single again and laid up due to my health I started looking at dating sites. The sites I frequented more were the ones that offered a forum community.

I see M2 as a dual site.
It has the profile, profile search side and the community forum side.
After about 2 years, I found a match on the profile side and no longer look at that side. I changed my bookmark to the community side and put in my forums folder.
The only time I look at the profile side is when I get mail and most of those are unimportant.
I have grown accustomed to the forums here. Its entertaining now that I understand the environment.
I no longer go to any of the other dating sites because I am no longer looking for anyone.

Earlier in this thread it was mentioned that this is a relationship site not a dating site.
I think that is true.
Someone that wants to say go see a movie and is looking for a date should probably choose from the pool of people they're in real world contact with.
I'm sure ya know someone that would go with you.
Unless you are just a terrible person and everyone you know hates you.

These sites are to allow two people with similar interests to find one another. That process takes time. We don't live in a safe world.
This site and ones like it are tools to allow you to form a sense of trust with someone you do not know.
That trust bond is called a relationship.

Trying to do random spontaneous dating from a website like this is like walking up to someone in a different city, grabbing their hand and saying I want you to come with me to the theater.
Some relationship is needed for any date.
Even a blind date is set up by someone you know and trust.

Why should we talk to people who don't have a picture posted like the one who started this... or if they have left? to me it's the end of the discussion

Personally I prefer to chat with someone who does have a picture. I once asked someone who contacted me to add a picture but there was no reply and no further communication.

50's is the new 30's apparently, but in my experience here it is hard to get a lady of 50 and over to come out after 9pm...
