I just read this somewhere. Just want to share it to you, guys. And may we always strive to be better. flowerforyou

I love this analogy!

You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere.

Why did you spill the coffee?

"Well because someone bumped into me, of course!"

Wrong answer.

You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup.

Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea.

*Whatever is inside the cup, is what will spill out.*

Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It's easy to fake it, until you get rattled.

*So we have to ask ourselves... β€œwhat's in my cup?"

When life gets tough, what spills over?

Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility?

Or anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions?

You choose! :100:

Today let's work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation; and kindness, gentleness and love for others. :raised_hands_tone1::pray_tone1::raised_hands_tone1:

Very nice words, very encouraging indeed.

We can always fall. But not remaining down. Getting up again. Looking for ways, not to fall again. That's important. JMO

Why did you spill the coffee?
"Well because someone bumped into me, of course!"
Wrong answer.
You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup.

Brilliant.
You've just rationally logic'd an argument against any kind of justice system.

"Why did you kill those 20 kids at the school?"
"Wrong answer judgarino, I didn't spill the coffee, they just happened to have their cups filled with mortal organs. Not my fault."

*Whatever is inside the cup, is what will spill out.*

That's why lids were invented.
AKA socialization and civilization and laws and rules and your mom showing you that tantrums don't work.
Cultural training.
Not just trying to pretend we can just fill ourselves with happy happy joy joy heroin juice.

may we always strive to be better.

So the "better" person is the one that capitulates, avoiding conflict, that may lead to feelings of "anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions?"

I think this is part of the reason why women are paid less.
Sorry, you can't negotiate without risking "anger, bitterness, harsh words, and reactions."

Hell, you can't even expand your knowledge without risking and encountering things that lead to "anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions."

Other than that, at best you are advocating against wallowing in self pity, bitterness, and anger.

And most people know to avoid those already.
...except goths...and loose women...and women that like to "fix" people...or submissive guys.

Other than that, the more you strive to be better, the more you end up better than others...which just helps generate feelings of "anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions," towards you.

But I guess that doesn't matter as long as your own cup is full of the rationalized "good" things.

Thumbs up!

I guess that doesn't matter as long as your own cup is full of the rationalized "good" things.

Optimism allows one to deal with the bad things in life because they understand that everything is temporary and things change constantly.
It allows a baseline of inner peace no matter the current circumstances.
When foundations are shaken, they are concerned but maintain their composure because to fix the problem, one must be able to think rationally.
