I think we in the west need to grow a pair and look around the world and see what poverty really is instead of complaining about not getting enough for nothing!

I dont think anyone here was making that complaint. I think more are complaining about people somehow getting 'too much'

I was watching a program where they interviewed a guy working minimum wage and claims he cannot get by on it.

Well he made the mistake of being interviewed at his apartment, which showed a ton of video games, flat screen TV, and a kick *** computer system

If he is that poor why all the modern toys?

I know Miss Harmony will say its an outlier blah blah blah and he deserves to have the latest toys because its a human right.

and if he was earning a living wage things would be fine , except that he made the choices in life and like all responsible adults he has to live by his decision and not burden the rest of us.

How complete was the presented research into what you think you saw? Did the people involved determine where he got the stuff he had and when? Did they explain whether or not he was paying the full cost of the apartment? Did they even say that it WAS "his" apartment?

Or did you just assume that you knew what did and didn't belong to him, and how he came yo have access to it?

If you are going to cite a thing as proof, you need to know that it actually does prove what you claim it does.

Didn't you get the memo?

Poor people aren't allowed to have birthdays, nor receive birthday presents. That also includes Christmas presents, graduation gifts, or anniversary gifts it they're married..

Their poverty requires that they live a hardscrabble day to day existence with no pleasure or distractions from their daily struggles. Their clothing must all be purchased from the local Goodwill or thrift store. Lest they be deemed "unworthy" of government largess.

I'm a landlord and I have tenants who drive better cars, wear more expensive clothes, etc than I do. Then they struggle to pay their rent. Priorities lol.

Im guessing you believe the ones on welfare sitting on their duffs doing squat are entitled to the things working people, remember those people who actually goes out and works for a living and pays taxes are entitled to the same things right?

if you believe we are entitled to the same thing, what is the incentive to work Viper?

If you ask a working person or someone who owns a business or multiple assets what is the incentive to work would different from those who are multi generation welfare recipients

but it doesn't matter to people like you right?

I think that if I decide to give my daughter a new 42 inch flatscreen TV for her birthday, as I'm dropping off diapers for my grandson, it's nobody's business where she got the TV.

In fact, it's nobody's business where she gets her clothes, her shoes, her Coach and Gucci purses, or the diamond on her finger.

At some point, this country turned into Gladys Kravitz from Bewitched. Americans as a whole, have seriously lost the ability to mind their own business. If you need any proof take a good hard look at the pro-fetus crowd.

It's most likely, that this condition, is a direct result of having no life.

People that have no life, can only validate their existence, by interfering in the lives of others.

If your daughter is on welfare and you're giving her a 42 inch flat screen TV for her birthday then I would question her and you.

Why doesnt she live with you and skip welfare, certainly you can afford it giving her a TV on her birthday , or buying clothes for her and your grandson.

mind our own business Ha, when they are taking our tax dollars away to help people who dont deserve help?

Are you seriously of the belief that being able to make a one time purchase of a flat screen proves one can support another adult and a child?

its called a 'gift' for a reason. You realize clothes can be anything from 5 to a couple hundred dollars, and thats MUCH different than paying LIVING expenses like rent, utilities, and food, et cetera.

I think Viper has hit it on the nose, people have no lives so they are constantly micro managing what others are doing or receiving in there's.

you really think she needs a 42 inch flat screen TV?

or does she want a 42 inch flat screen TV.

Why not pay for a college course Part time to help her get more skills so she can get off of welfare.

How does a TV help her situation, oh she can watch TV in comfort , righhhtttt.

priorities folks.

when do gifts have to only be things we 'need'? Do you routinely give people gifts like tampons or trash bags, for instance?

a gift is meant to be something a person might WANT.

college courses cost more than tv screens, and they are not as sure to give some return or value.

priorities doesnt mean not having ANY comforts at all.

For my graduation gift, my mom bought me maturity clothes and a pair of heels I needed for graduation. I was appreciative because it's what I needed. I went without a tv until a year later when me and my husband found a good deal at a pawn shop. Before the tv, we would play hangman on my notebook paper. We were focused on rent, lights, and groceries

I don't know where you come from but in my experience ( and everyone I know) those things you mention above are supplied to the kid by their family.. not the government.

It goes back to responsibility for your acts and responsibility for raising what YOU created.

It is the kids who suffer for the actions of their biological parents. So don't put the blame on people who had no say in what was done, but are expected to pay for it.

once again Priorities rears its head again, and you wonder why some people succeed in life and others dont.

My first place a basement apartment, I was lucky my Grandparents gave me their old TV, you know the big Sony TV that stood on a stand on the floor, I couldn't afford a flat screen.

I bought my first flat screen when I bought my first house 5 years later.

I scrimped, saved, invested, not much going out and splurging in the early days but Im better off nowadays because of it.

there is enough responsibility to go around.

I mean, if there was a 7 year old crying alone in the park, its definitely and clearly the 'blame' of whomever left them unassisted, but the adult who just walks by and dismisses it because they feel free of 'blame' or put out by trying to help someone else's child, has some responsibility too.

We had all our bills paid and enough to buy the t.v. with cash. We weren't on welfare. My husband went to work everyday and we lived a very modest life. When my daughter was born, my mom bought me a washing machine as a baby shower gift. It was great. Kept me from having to Carry a baby and couple loads of laundry to the laundry mat. She was a very smart person and taught her kids value.

here is the problem with that statement, society has changed some much that even good deeds can be misconstrued.

If a man walked by and saw the 7 year old crying and he approached the child for concern for it safety and some one witnessed that they could call the police and the police would pounce all over that man thinking he might be a pedophile.

30 years ago that wouldn't be the case that man would have been labeled a good Samaritan for looking out for the child's best interest.

Today not so much, heck a teacher cant even hug a student in distress anymore for fears of a sexual assault charge.

A man cant open a door for a woman without being label a chauvinistic patriarch pig .

There is no more or very little responsibility in society today.
