Look, I am not attacking christmas have enjoyed it all my life but as my mind has grown past what my personal beliefs are to encompass others of different faiths and backgrounds, I have realized the reason for keeping personal beliefs personal and making sure you are respectful to all not the few like you. Christianity is notorious for pushing their views on others in the stance they are the one true right religion and this is disrespectful of others religions, backgrounds and faiths.

If Christmas is christmas to you good but remember it is not christmas to all, it is possibly another holiday which is just as important to them. Be respectful of others.

I am not trying to down anyone's religion, I am trying to make others aware not only was christmas another holiday before christianity was invented, it is also different holidays for different people. That is all I am saying.bigsmile

And again, I honor your opinion flowerforyou

BUT ... I still don't agree. When was the last time a retailer made much money off Kwansa? or even Chanukah, altho I do know people who buy gifts for those days.

But here's the deal. It's Labor Day. What does the ad from say Dillards read? LABOR DAY SALE.

It's Memorial Day. What does the ad from Macy's read? MEMORIAL DAY SALE.

It's Thanksgiving. What does the ad from Banana Republic read?
THANKSGIVING DAY SALE.

It's Christmas. What do all the 'fear of retaliation from 1% of the American public' ads from Godknows how many retailers now read (for the first year evahhhhhh) ....

That's all I'm sayin

And you are entitled to that for yourself personally....as we are. I am so sick and tired of people saying that, "Christians" are always pushing their beliefs on others. We have had God and Christ as an integral part of this country since it's inception. Now this is nothing I did nor Fade for that matter it just is. And shame on people for now coming and wanting to take this day away from yes "Our" savior. I have another thread where it shows how this country went to hell in a hand basket as soon as they took prayer our of school. And this is not to say that everyone on this whole planet of our can't believe whatever they want. But please don't be a hypocrite and say that it's only Christians that think they are the Bomb.....Frankly I find it is old and very lame.

There was a holiday on Dec 25 before christians adopted it. People actually celebrated the winter before christianity if you can imagine that. American has never been a fully Christian country so to say it is American is not totally true either.

I am not trying to down anyone's religion, I am trying to make others aware it is also different holidays for different people. That is all I am saying.

Well of course Dragoness....and my point is that why all the sudden is it being taken away. Jesus Christ was born and e should celebrate His birthday. w

I totally understand Jesus was not born on Dec 25th, but it was adopted centuries ago that we would celebrate it then.

Again,,,,,,,,,,,, give me ONE instance of a gift bought or sold for "winter solstice" ... just one is all I ask.

I didn't start this thread to argue. I put up a video link on my OP that I would like everyone to see is all. It was done by a friend of mine and I think it's funny, catchy and speaks the minds of 90% of America.

What gets tiring is when a very small minority try to speak for the majority. And because we have this ridiculous "politically correct" dynamic now, they get THEIR say and I don't get MINE.

Say Happy Solstice .. and I'll say it back .. if you like. But leave me to my Merry Christmas (and again the majority of America) ....

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Nobody is taking anything away from anyone, in your home you have the right to celebrate christmas every day of the year if you wanted to. I will not have a government or country that is not respectful to all who live in it. I just will not stand for it and yes, if that is the minority so be it. I will stand for keeping people aware that if you do not celebrate christmas and you have another holiday or none, we in America respect you and yours. I will celebrate christmas how we have done in my family for centuries because I like the way we did it but I will not publically force it on others, that is disrespectful. If the public displays in the court yard represented all possible beliefs, I have no problem with them but if they are limited to only christian, I have a problem with that. It is not taking away anything personally from anyone it is keeping our country free as it was incepted from the beginning.

No one is publically FORCING anything. That's the ridiculous part of this entire thing.

But they aren't just told don't say "Merry Christmas" .. the sales staff are told not to respond "Merry Christmas" even if they believe in the holiday and know by my greeting to them that I celebrate that holiday.

That is taking it too far. What's so funny is it's usually the liberal community that push 'we' as in conservative/moderate insist on our way, all the while being intolerant of me.

Well my dad and my brother in laws and my ex husband all fought for this country and their opinion should count too.

Anyway, enough of the banter. This is CHRISTMAS and I refuse to argue when it's Christ's birthday I want to celebrate. And you know, in a few days...I'll be ringing a Salvation Army bell and sayin' MERRY CHRISTMAS just as loud as I dang well please

It's about tolerant on all sides is all here.

right on sista....

Im going a lil off the subject but it's also really part of it. I live in S. Califoria. Ok now the Korean population have moved in. Which is fine and dandy....here is my beef with it. They now have all their stores with Korean signs on them. Again ok with me if they also had English signs. Now the kicker for me.....Was them wanting their own Korean PTA....No way no how....I wrote to the LA Times, to the local papers. I'm all for America of the land of the home and the free. I am not for other people coming in and making it their country and not learning English......English should be a first language......End.

Now I agree with Judy once again.....It's Christmas.....and tis the season......and all that.....It's a time of celebration not of rumbles.

Anyone that truly cares whether someone says "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" has way too much time on their hands. Either that or they've been listening to Bill O'"Really" too much.

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a great holiday season!
