I am frugal. I don't get paying lots of money for something I can get for less. To me, it is wasting. But if it is worth the money, I would spend it.

I think the difference between being frugal and being a cheapskate is relativity.
Being frugal indicates a desire to spend wisely. It could be inspired by low fund resources or a desire to get the best bang for the buck. Being frugal, as far as I am concerned is a smart way to spend money. Being a cheapskate is the discipline of not spending money no matter the funding resouces available. A cheapskate will not buy something even if it is a frugal savings. They are money horders. There is a difference between gifting someone you love and being pressured to buy them everything they want. One is a present, the other is a gold digger. I think that most couples operate somewhere in the middle. |

Definitely couldn't have a stingy mate. I want a match that spends because I do.
Most couples fight over finances. Men want to spend the woman s hard earned cash. |

I treat myself often! That's why I don't appreciate cheap dates like McDonald's! Or a ice cream cone, one cup coffee, ect

I think I am practical. I dont buy for status or bragging rights, just for purpose. If I buy something, its based on my need to use it and what I pay has to be reasonable enough that it can be easily replaced when its used up.

I just want to point out that "cheapskate" is a direct insult. It is not an unbiased description of a particular set of spending principles or behaviors, as "frugal" is.
I have always been "frugal," as I grew up in a lower middle class family, who were descended from people who suffered greatly in the Great Depression. However, when someone has been angry at me in situations involving spending money, there have been various instances where the angry person declared that I was a "cheapskate." I've been the same all along. |

Hummm I would consider myself frugal but when it comes to something I really want or need I will spend the extra money if it is actually worth it and will last a much longer time...
Normally stuff like vehicles I buy used have bought one new car in my lifetime... learned that I could save several thousands by buying a couple years old... Furniture I buy used for the same reason... on certain things...But some things I will buy new and never used... it just all depends like mattresses sure I have had used but I knew who had them prior.. no choice at times.. Now have a new one I bought for the first time..It should last me the rest of my life.. I love to find stuff at garage sales or flea markets....... I don't keep up with the Jones as some use to in the day..I'm happy for those that have the money to buy what ever... But when you live from paycheck to paycheck you learn to budget... I grew up with a hell of a lot less then I have now.. But always had a roof over my head and food to eat. Never knew or thought of what I did not have only of what I do have that many do not... I believe that most watch what they spend is due to a budget and not because they are cheap.... The old saying goes what is ones person trash is another's persons treasure...I have found many treasures over the years at garage sales & flea markets... |

When it comes to spending on dates .. he does not have to impress me with fine dining .. I would rather a coffee and lots of laughs with someone I am attracted to for the man he is .. than a man who feels the need to impress me absolutely. It all comes to how they are raised though, I think. I had a guy whose dad only really validated him when he earned money, and on how much stuff he had and how fancy. He, in turn, felt the way to validate how much he 'loved' me was through how much money he spent on me, or stuff he bought me, and how fancy. It felt to me like being bought, although I know he didn't really 'know better." That didn't work out, though he was a decent guy, but I don't take on the job of changing anyone or growing them up. |
