Sometimes I think this forum should be labeled – “Rehabilitation Center for Radical Fanaticals”

The fundies are the patients and everyone else contributes free social services to try to help them recover from their obsession with delusional

I first suggested "... According the bible.." Certified thread (tm)..."

Fundies didn't take me up it.

I then proposed "... bible inerrancy' certified forum..." in this thread, but I must admit that I would rather support your coining phrase, Abra, and maybe keep the catchy and most Christian slogan I proposed:

"... take a 'Radical Fanatic' under your wing, and 'toughlove' him/her back to his/her senses!!!..."

What do you say people say, shouldn't we roll with this!?!?!

Fundies wouldn't take you up it because you hadn't yet tied it off.

Try duct tape next time.

Feral wrote:
Does God Exist - Things to Consider
Once you're ready to ask the question, "does God exist?" here are a few observations to consider as you begin your search for an objective answer:

Yes, I agree that there are many reasons to believe that the universe has intelligence.

I’d just like to point out that none of the reasons Feral gave points to ancient mythology as being a correct description of God.

Therefore, for those who are considering the question “Does God exist?”, please keep in mind that the very next question a person should ask is, “Now which spiritual view is mostly likely the correct description of this God?”

There’s no reason to go running off to grab a Bible. There are many other religions to choose from, all of which have very valid things to say.

Just to list a few of my personal favorites,…. Taoism, Buddhism, the Natural Pantheism of the American Indians, Hinduism and many other religions that are based on a pantheistic view of God. In fact, the pantheist view of God is common to more religions than any other view.

Let me quote Albert Einstein on this issue,…

“The religion of the future will be a cosmic religion. It should transcend personal God and avoid dogma and theology. Covering both the natural and the spiritual, it should be based on a religious sense arising from the experience of all things natural and spiritual as a meaningful unity. Buddhism answers this description. If there is any religion that could cope with modern scientific needs it would be Buddhism.” – Albert Einstein

Many other brilliant men have suggested similar feelings concerning pantheistic views over those of a separate human-like entity.

Finally, another thing to consider is that the all religions that have a ‘human-like’ God stem from the same original soure!

One thing that most people are not aware of is that Christianity stems from the mythologies of the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean regions. This include Islam and Judaism. All of these religions are basically the same religion that fell into parts.

The Mediterranean “religions” (believed to be mythology) include Greek Mythology, and the religions of places like Egypt and other Mediterranean metropolises. All of their story lines are extremely similar including the idea that their God’s were born of mortal virgin women who became impregnated by a higher God.

These stories have been told in many different forms long before the birth of Christ.

See for yourself here:

http://www.pocm.info/getting_started_pocm.html

The other thing to consider is that the pantheistic view of God arose quite independently in various differnet parts of the world implying that the pantheistic view of God is a more natural view that will naturally come to mind when not affected by previous ancient folklore and mythology.

In other words, it's not simply a matter of beliving in Christianity or being an atheist. There are a lot of valid ways to understand God and Chrsitianity may not even be among them. That's certainly your choice to make. I'm just pointing out that it's not the only choice.

Arguments for "Intelligent Design" do not, in any way, support any particular picture of God. In fact, scientific observations of the age of the unviverse, the age of the earth, and the idea that evolution has occurred are all in perfect agreement with a pantheistic view of God.

Just food for thought for anyone who prefers to think for themselves. flowerforyou

Actually Michael, I could become a Christian preacher if I really wanted to.

However, to do so, would require that I take the entire Bible very abstractly, and even reject some parts of it as simply being tainted by man.

I have thought about this in the past. At one time I was desperate to “save” Jesus. I really wanted to make the Bible work. However, to do this would require complete rejection of most of the common things that are accepted about it. I finally realized that to teach the Bible in the only way that could make sense to me, would basically fly in the face of the way that most churches teach it.

In other words, I may as well just turn to another religion rather than trying to “save” Jesus from the Christians.

It just isn’t worth the effort. flowerforyou

James...

I truly do appreciate your person...

And the notion you express of the text I can also understand...

The "vestiges" in the Bible which opened my eyes, also gave birth to the realization of the notion that the book has been tainted throughout it's history... undeniably by those who choose to believe that God is "bigger" than the Bible...

Where are the books of Thomas?...or Mary Magdelene?...or ANY of the ones that did not "make the cut"?

And WHO may I ask... determined which ones were inspired by God?

Did God do that?

The answers are all around us...

We each walk in the path of our own choosing...

One creates what one believes...one believes what one creates...

Now... I am sorry... back on topic... and it was...

This is a thread which will be used to dismiss all science and it's findings... because they are just as incomplete as my book.

ABRA, my brother...

eclecticism is abstractly wallowing in truth while rejecting nothing.

But, I see that as a taste and not a meal.

You are welcome to accompany me in that if you like.

We are an odd bunch, but we know you.

By the way, your prose is outstandingly fresh once again.

Your gift has rightfully consumed you.

I'm certain your fulness of joy is a daily meal.
