Do you edit yourself.
Or do you just go with the first thing that comes out of your mouth..
And let the chips fall where they may..
Are you find yourself thinking maybe I should put it in the way they may better understand...
Personally doing that makes me feel like I'm altering Who I Really Am..

For instance... if I was to say.. thinking on you long and hard..
One person might perceive it as a sweet sentiment..
Another person may perceive it as some perverted off colored indawindo.. in da window..lol..

Now at that point I feel the need to..
Self edit.. but then I realize that person just doesn't get it.... or do you really need to self edit yourself...
For the people around you and in your life.... I have no filter but sometimes I think that's good... but other times I begin to wonder...lol

I never think what to say ahead of time..
what is there rolls right off the fingertips
to the keyboard.

Then I reread it, satisfied, and take out
everything that matters :-)

Sometimes. I always try to MP3 what I say rather than write a book. Weak writing skills. Think I banged my head to many times. Also seems so many others are sensitive to what you are these days, always looking for the negative instead of viewing what's said on the positive. spock laugh

I do have to self edit myself many times at work. Swearing while in a church, or at the Senior Citizens Center is seriously frowned upon.

I have to self edit myself on here also a lot of times. If I posted what I really thought. I wouldn't be able to participate in these lovely forums.

Filters are good, but I do have my times where I just don't give a f*¢<!

Put it down the way I mean. Someone else's perspective is irrelevant.

For me, different situations calls for various filters.. I am true and don't lie, but may not open up in every situation.. 'tis better to be quiet and thought a fool, than to open your mouth, and remove all doubt'..

Well said! For me it depends on the situation and what I am writing. Some of my writing I don't edit....when it comes to poetry and heartfelt writings....I just proof-read it and make corrections.

If I am writing to a specific person, it depends on whether I am writing from the heart or from my angry state of mind. If it's from the heart, I don't edit it. If it's from my angry state of mind, I write the unedited version to get it all out....and later after I cooled down....I edit it....not changing how I feel or think, just how I word it.

Oh, and when it comes to speaking....I will generally keep quiet than say anything I may need to apologize for later.

Do you edit yourself.

Of course.
Language is a tool.
To be used appropriately for its intended purpose.
Or to be used inappropriately.
Or appropriately inappropriately.
Or some combination.

Or do you just go with the first thing that comes out of your mouth..

Depends on the question or situation.
Depends on the relationship I have with the person.
The more I care about the person, and/or the consequences, the more I "edit" myself.

Are you find yourself thinking maybe I should put it in the way they may better understand...
Personally doing that makes me feel like I'm altering Who I Really Am..

Then why use language at all?
Based on that logic, how this is presented, simply learning to speak a language is "altering" who you "really" are.
You can throw off the chains of oppression at any time and just grunt, laugh, scream, and cry, run around naked and crap wherever you like.
Be free! Be who you "really" are.

For the people around you and in your life.... I have no filter but sometimes I think that's good... but other times I begin to wonder

"Filters" can be a means of showing respect (or the truth that there's a lack of it) to the people you are trying to communicate with.
You're considering their needs, comfort, how they communicate and understand.
"Self editing" can help validate relationships, that you care enough to at least try, that they're worth the time you're taking to self edit and come up with something.

Of course it can be used as the opposite too.

I have a bad habit of putting both feet in my mouth and shoving until I hit knee cap, which is A) why I don't have any friends and B) why I prefer to use forums. That way I can change my mind after reading it a few times.

I am careful about what I say to others. Like previously mentioned you can't unsay something.

In writing, online, I mostly write out my thoughts and use spell check. Then I reread what I wrote to see if it makes sense to me. I edit according to how well it says what I want it to mean.

In responses to forum replies, I reread what I see and determine if it is worth commenting or replying to. I'm not one to try to perpetuate an argument. Most subjects are not really worth the effort of a flame war.

Sometimes, when I get anxious or excited to post I post before I read what I wrote, when I notice, I usually do edit. When I edit, I try to write the reason for the edit.

Communication is a complex thing. Ideas can be taken wrong easily. I tend to choose my words carefully to try to use words that best fit my intended meaning. I often have to edit to simplify my vocabulary. I google for synonyms a lot.

I believe very strongly in "self editing." I think that the fad which I've seen pop up socially several times now, of NOT editing oneself, on the grounds that blurting out whatever comes to mind is "more honest," and I am 100% confident that that is worse than nonsense.

This isn't because I think everyone should "craft" a personality, or disguise themselves, or anything like that. Exactly opposite, in fact.

What I discovered, is that humans tend to say WHAT THEY'VE HEARD SAID, rather than what they actually think and feel, unless they actually work very hard on carefully expressing themselves accurately. I think that this is normal, because the way everyone learns to speak from birth, is through copying what others say to us.

So yes. I "edit" constantly. And I am extremely honest. More honest than most people, outside of my own family (speaking carefully and accurately is a family trait).

On here as in real life i think about what to say. I try not to add to people's negativity.
There are many times i read the interaction gping on and opt out of getting sucked in. That's when i head to the games
