Crime rate up by illegals? I was thinking that of course crime rates are up due to the illegals. I mean; they are illegal by definition. So, illegal = instant crime rate up.

Personally.. I resist bringing race into this discussion. It tends to cloud the issue. There is a bias though. It might be race for some, no doubt... When my Mother, clearly not Anglo-Saxon in nature and look.. married my Father, the Son of many Son's who were fisherman in Massachusetts.. People around them felt threatened. The color of her skin was alright.. so far as she stayed in her place.

Racist? Maybe... Threat? Fear? Scared? For completely irrational reasons? Most definitely.
My best man was a full Vietnamese at my wedding.. His wife is Korean.. I grew up with both. My best friend in grade school was an anchor baby... From one of the southern States of Mexico. He is doing well now. A functioning part of our society, a business owner.

I am not unfamiliar with hate. Even though I pass as white. I have much Spanish and Asian in my blood. My older sister looks more Asian then white.. taking on my Mothers features. I can't tell you how many times I stood between her and people that meant to do her harm. Not to mention the times I stood along side my friends that were not the right complexion.

However.. this argument.. as were those fights.. is not all about race. It is about fear, threat, entitlement, and loosing that entitlement. This is an age old war. Going on since the beginning of time. It is about power and retaining that power.

The funny thing is.. As Americans we like to feel safe in our power. We do not like to consider the fact that because we are a major economic, political and military influence, we are in the most unsafe, uncomfortable spot on this planet. So.. we look at both our domestic and foreign issues with a mind to just make it all go away, instantly.

Unfortunately.. there is no instant solution. Our world is turning into a WORLD! Our economy is becoming global.

At some point..borders will be meaningless. Simply lines on a map.

Look at Europe... So far as what we have been taught.. the birth of modern society happened there. Rome.. Greece... Oddly enough.. The Celts, Germanics, Hebrews and Persians are more powerful today. Not to mention the fact that all those implied borders? Today? Are just that.. implied.

However.. Us Americans. We like to play a game that is absolutely unwinnable. We are the technological and military power, yet we want to be isolated. We get really irate when someone blows up something in our home, yet we have a presence in every part of the rest of the world... Something isolationists try to avoid.

I learned at about age 5... "You can't have your cake and eat it too".

Our world is getting smaller due to technological and societal advancement in general. Both, we are highly credited for. Much good has come from it.. However, as in all things, there is always a down side.

We can handle that gracefully or clumsily.. It is our choice. From the looks of this thread.. clumsy might be the chosen way...

(CBS/AP) Authorities say 23 illegal immigrants were arrested Wednesday, accused of using fake security badges to work in critical areas of O'Hare International Airport, including the tarmac.

The 23 allegedly illegal workers were employed by Ideal Staffing Solutions Inc., whose corporate secretary and office manager also were arrested after an eight-month investigation that involved federal, state and Chicago authorities.

Much of the investigation centered on the airport security badges issued by the Department of Aviation, said U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald. Agents found that 110 of the 134 badges issued to Ideal Staffing workers did not match the individuals who carried them, he said.

Mary Gurin, 36, of Carpentersville, and Norinye Benitez, 24, of Franklin Park, were each charged with one federal count of harboring illegal immigrants for gain and one federal count of misuse of Social Security numbers. They were scheduled for a preliminary appearance later Wednesday in U.S. District Court, Brown said.

Benitez is believed to be an illegal immigrant from Mexico, and Gurin employed her and signed her airport badge application while knowing her illegal status, Brown said.

The workers arrested, 21 from Mexico and two from Guatemala, were being held in the Cook County jail. They face state criminal charges and deportation, Brown said.

According to affidavits in a complaint against Gurin and Benitez unsealed Wednesday in U.S. District Court, the applications for the 110 bogus badges listed Social Security numbers that either did not exist or belonged to other individuals, some of whom were dead.

Cook County State's Attorney Richard A. Devine said his office has issued more than 100 arrest warrants in the case.

This is not true. Case in point: They take painting and construction contracts from Americans because they will work cheaper. Not necessarily do a better job, just work cheaper.

But the ones who hire them (rich, spoiled, upper-class, but cheap, yuppies or other reprehensible human species) are a big part of the problem which extends way beyond illegals themselves.

Also, they're not just picking fruits and vegetables. They are taking care of children, mopping floors, doing maid service and other menial tasks that most Americans (except some) would shun.

Again this goes back to the employer who hired them in the first place.

Which begs the question:

Who is more reprehensible?

Your right Knoxman it not racist topic but it's seen as racist cause. Most of the illegals are not whites from europe but hispanics/ latinos, and Jamacian/ Hatian blacks from south America and the Caribbean. Some could argue that if the illegals were european then there would be less conflict over illegal immigration.

I personally I don't see it as a race issue per se but a class issue. There's the two working class group at odds here: American born here trying to make a living, and illegal workers born else where trying to make a living. Both groups are competting for jobs. The problem is compounded by the wealthy needing the illegals for cheap labor.

It a problem that the Bush adminstration can't solve. Bush wants cheap labor for American industries and services but doesn't want to pay the American working class quality pay. He tried to turn a blind eye to illegals who work under the table and on the cheap.

Of course it doesn't fly at all with working class born here in the states. Out comes the minute men watch the border as well as fence building to "protect our borders from terrorists." That's seen as racist.

Bush still wanted kind of cheap labor so he tried to have have immgration bill that had work visa program install. That bill was stalled and defeated in congress.

Like I said illegal immigration is more complicated than crime statistics.

Rather then spending money on building fences and evicting people... Prosecuting business... We spend that 100 billion on subsidizing the wages, offering tax incentives to business and private citizens who hire either legally nationalized or born citizens.
We invest money in reducing the drug trade through treatment of the addict.. therefore reducing the market.

Right now? We are vested in reducing the flow across our borders... throwing good money after bad. We think punishment is the way to our goal, our absolution... Lets punish the business, the laborer and the dealer...

That plan has only made the problem get bigger.

This has been a public issue for what? 30 years now? You would think.... As intelligent, well schooled, and modern a society we are... The super power we are...that we could easily identify when something is not working.

But.. No... It is working. For a chosen few.

Those few have the backing of the masses. Fooling them into thinking that they will prevail for our working class...So the machine stays on course.

We as average citizens, act like rabid dogs.. sicked on a skin color, or breed. Those that rule us? They get a steady flow of what they need and what keeps us that way.

This problem.. as most tend to think.. is not a partisan issue.

It slices another way. It goes across the grain.. As a few others suggested. It is class. There are as many Democrats as there are Republicans that benefit from this process...
