I've been emailing back and forth with men, but at least 70% of the time when I suggest a phone call they back off and I never hear anything again. Am I being too forward?

The reasons I suggest a telephone conversation are because I don't communicate very well via email (as you all can see - I come across as stuffy) and I'd like to hear a man's voice.

I'm not much of a phone person myself, but i don't have a problem calling someone if that's what they want

Maybe they just weren't that interested or they are talking to lots of people online and they don't have time to be on the phone because they are busy typing to 700 people at one time.

I would have no problem talking on the phone.
That way, you also make sure the other person is for real.

Try something like AIM as an intermediate step. It lets you talk in real time, but you still have time to think about what you're gonna say before you actually say it, so no awkward pauses in conversation. It works pretty well like that.

Because phone calls with new people are awkward. Try an instant messenger like aim or yahoo first.

Ive emailed and talked on the phone with people I've met online. I don't see the big deal with not talking over the phone or something like Skype or TeamSpeak which are free. I actually prefer it to email. You can hear the other person's voice and laughter. Much more enjoyable.

Yeah ive had the same experiences with people when I suggest a first phone call. I know most people would say wait a reasonable amount of time before asking this, but I believe after a month of talking through emails a phone call is the next logical step.

Just depends on how comfortable they are with you. As long as you don't put off the stalker vibe, everything should be great. :-)

i know this will sound horribly sexist...maybe even offensive...and i contemplated biting my tongue, but in the interest of being a productive member of the JSH community:

in the words of tupac: "ladies i hate to sound sleazy but tease me, i don't want it if it's that easy."

let the guy ask for ur number i guess is the point i'm trying to make.

If I am emailing a guy like through something like this and he wants me to call, I usually won't unless I am genuinely interested in getting to know him romantically. I don't know why. I'm weird about moving to the phone from email unless it's something that's progressing. It feels like a commitment of some sort or something to me. Weird, I know. I have gone to the phone with guys I met online and regretted it because I wasn't that into them and then they had my number and could call me. You can ignore email easier than a phone that is constantly ringing.
