Good subject. Great discussion. Here's my take. I'm a single man. I'm doing well. And I have a budgeted expense account for this. I PAY.. Unless there are extenuating circumstances as in she elects to pay or if she owes me a favor and elects to pay back the favor by poppin for dinner. IE: "you took me to vegas, sturgis, (insert cool place here) and paid for it so please let me pay for dinner." that is acceptable I feel. I've had woman make me feel uncomfortable over this pay thing not because of the situation of payback but I've had princesses who have voiced their opinion that it was owed to them or they deserved it or I'm worth it. A little clue ladies...... that will be your first and last date with me and I will block your phone calls. I live a wierd life. There is a lot of backscratching (you scratch mine I scratch yours) and calling in favors in my life. Its all good and a lot of love involved with calling in markers, and you owe me I owe you. Now let's say I go out to dinner with my parents and family. It is understood that my father, the kindest man on earth pays. Because if I reach for the check he tries to put a steak knife through my hand. But I still offer. He now smiles and says "I got the check and you pay the tip gratuity." "yes sir, dad." its all good.

Yes I said I pay my own way..for a reason...I don't want it thought because a man pays my way he is then owed something(sex), sorry its just not happening, I am not one of the type that sleeps with a guy the first time...if I pay my own way then nothing is expected.

longhairbiker- I disagree. I think when two people love each other or even just like one another enough to date, it shouldn't be a "lets keep tabs for each other" deal, but rather a "I care about you enough to do this for you" situation. There have been countless times I've done things for the people I love and don't feel they owe me anything, and vice versa.

If someone is keeping track of how many dinners they paid for vs. what you've given to them then you aren't doing it because you like to. I don't want anyone to feel obligated to do stuff and keeping score. That's kind of a turn off. As a single mom I don't really have a whole lot of extra cash to pay for fancy dinners and I think when someone takes me out it's because they are doing something nice for me and showing that they enjoy my company enough to pay for our meal. It's not about the price it's the gesture.
