Sometimes I feel obligated because of the women I've known and the things that they did for our War effort.
I got to know 2 women that flew for the 'WASP' unit; one was a regular pilot and the other was what a 'gopher'...she'd fly the repaired planes back out of the maintenance shop in Edgerton, Ks if they got held over for a major repair from the Gardner Air Fort Base and take a bus or train back home to KS.

women actually built most of the planes and other military vehicles as well, with most of the men drafted and sent overseas during WW2...

Nooooo, panamajoe33 you have to acquire a 'Special Use Permit' in order to have a 'Parade/March' and there'd be zero city in America that would allow such a vulgar name to be used for such a purpose! Nope, and just because 'YOU SAY' it was what 'SOME' women were calling it - hardly makes the 'MARCH' what you say it was! Demeaning women in this manner is really crude/rude and debasing to a point of shutting down adult conversation and just allowing vile intent to proceed! TO WHAT POINT EXACTLY?

In addition to Boston, marches are planned in cities including Seattle; Chicago; Philadelphia; Reno, Nev.; and Austin, Texas.

“The event is in protest of a culture that we think is too permissive when it comes to rape and sexual assault,” said Siobhan Connors, 20, of Lynn, Mass., another Boston organizer. “It’s to bring awareness to the shame and degradation women still face for expressing their sexuality … essentially for behaving in a healthy and sexual way.”
.
The events are similar to “Take Back the Night” rallies and other marches that aim to bring attention to sexual violence. But there are key differences.

TY - YellowRose; interesting how this link proves it was all about the support of "STOPPING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN"...remarkable!!! But yet not surprising since this is exactly the way in which the women were treated back in the 60's - TY

:-) No accounting for tastes.

But worst of all - it leads to confusion. Women now go around saying "Hey slut, how's it going?" to each other and laughing, but if a man says the exact same thing... well... you can just HEAR the slap across his face, can't you?

I also wanted to add this to the pile...

Something which most women will one day need to understand - is that there really is no such thing as a pay gap between men and women today.

I know this might upset some feminists... but hear me out.

Does it make sense for any business to hire a more expensive employee?

For example - suppose I am a florist and need to hire someone that arranges flowers. If I knew that by hiring a woman, I could save 15% or more, rather than hiring a man... would it make sense to ever hire a man? How much of an idiot would I have to be in order to pay someone more for doing the same job?

Now... apply that reasoning to a big corporation like a bank. Do you really think that any hiring manager out there would hire someone just to pay them more? As a stock owner, I would be raking the CEO over the coals if they did that.

So... if hiring women is cheaper than hiring men... why don't women have all the jobs? Why don't more companies hire women?

Obviously... it isn't just about costs is it? Usually the difference comes down to a woman's choices doesn't it.

Let's go back to the florist example. Suppose I was willing to pay $15/hr. That's all I could afford with Obamacare on top. Let's also assume that both the man and the woman applying to the job are the same age. Now, after interviewing them, I find out that the man has been doing flower arrangements for 5 years, while the woman has been doing them for 3. I discovered that she took a couple of years off to raise her child. So who should I hire? By all accounts, the man has more experience, and it would be stupid of me to not hire the man.

Now I understand that most women would say... "But you shouldn't punish a woman because she had to raise her child."

But my answer is... "Why not?"

Suppose that it was the reverse - that the man had only 3 years experience (because his wife died and he had to spend some time taking care of his newborn child) but the woman was single and had 5 years of experience? Should I take pity on the man and give him the job? Of course not - I have a business to run, and i'm not here to make YOUR life easier. Since I'm paying you, you should be making MY life easier.

So as you see... if you choose to stay in grad school, travel the world, have kids, heck... study math instead of psychology. All of these choices had an impact on your carreer, as well as your salary. For men however, it was always a given that they would be the ones who would go out and work while women would stay home and raise the kids (and cook and clean and do all those hellish jobs that women hate). But now... with feminism... that's all gone! Now women have the equal right to suffer and work in a crappy 9 to 5 job like men do, and abandon their dreams of having a family!

Welcome to the revolution girls!

same job, same pay,, the rest is irrelevant,,

panamajoe33 previously had posted >>> With the advent of the pill, however, that all changed. A woman now had control over her reproductive process and the whole idea of being stuck and lonely in the suburbs (2 kids at school, husband at work) was no longer appealing. For the longest time, I was against feminism. I always viewed it as an attack on men... and if you look at it honestly, that is what it has become today. I don't think you will ever go to a feminist rally and not hear some women shouting how all men need to be killed. But now I am starting to fall in love with feminism, since it too has the possibility of setting men free.

Then when I challenged you on that you switched it up to a 'SLUT' in a March in Toronto, Canada; and if I owe you an apology {as I heard you'd requested} then Yes, I will apologize!
But it was the direction and method that you brought that vile wording into play that made me suspect not only your meaning & intention but the place that you were getting the info from and now YellowRose has provided the link and I read it!

I 'ASSumed' too much and for that I am sorry, PanamaJoe!

But do try to remember; that word along with other crude/demeaning verbiage used by my black friends aren't words that I {a 61 yr old white woman} would EVER BE ABLE to allow to drop out of my mouth - not even in a drunken moment of utter stupidity! Not if you plan on maintaining a conversation with adults in a mature conversation!

:-) I try to judge people individually on their own actions and merits. So there is no WAY I could judge you or anyone in these forums and what that person is like since I don't really know them. As they say... "judge a person when you walked a mile in their shoes". What I do judge are the words which are printed here.

But anyway... I don't think it's a problem in friendly group settings. Even men who are friends will call each other names like "Hey s!head... how's it going?" And then start laughing.

What I have issues with is that the term has been modified by Orwellian double speak into meaning something else.

Cheers!

Everyone please excuse me for the comment I'm about to make:

When I hear the word "feminist" my mind immediately pictures an angry, stout, lesbian woman with short spiky hair, spewing hate.

sad It isn't my fault! I've been brainwashed by eons of male chauvinism! Propagandists!!!

Every body sing:

This is a man's world, this is a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl
You see, man made the cars to take us over the road
Man made the train to carry the heavy load
Man made electric light to take us out of the dark
Man made the boat for the water, like Noah made the ark
This is a man's, man's, man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl.......

flowerforyou forgive me?

P.S. If it helps redeem me in your eyes, when I hear "sexist" I think of an old, fat, bald guy, using power and influence to degrade women. For stating this I offer no apologies because it is true often enough to warrant the stereotype.

Rodney Carrington >>> Ladies and Gentlemen, The Man Song!

(He's the man!)
(He's the man!)

I don't take no crap from anybody
[else but you]
I wear the pants around here
[when I'm finished with your laundry]
Cuz I'm a guy you don't wanna fight
[When I say "Jump", you say "Yeah right!"]
I'm the man of this house
[until you get home]

(He's the man!)
(He's the man!)

What I say goes around here
[right out the window]
And I don't wanna hear a lot of whining
[so I'll shut up]
The sooner you learn who's Boss around here
[The sooner you can give me my orders, dear]
Cuz I'm Head-Honcho around here
[but it's all in my head]

(He's the man!)
(He's the man!)

And I can have s** anytime
[that you want it]
Cuz I'm a man who has needs
[but there not that important]
And don't expect any flowers from me
[Cuz if I'm not mistaken you prefer jewelry]
I'm the King of my castle
[when you're not around]

(He's the man!)
(He's the man!)

And I'll drink and watch sports whenever I want
[and get in trouble]
And I'll come home when I'm good and ready
[to sleep on the couch]
Cuz a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do
[And I'm gonna do what you tell me to]
Because I'm Top dog around here
[but I've been neutered]

(He's the man!)
(He's the man!)

(You the man!)

First... thank you for your apology. It was generous of you. Something we are in short supply of in today's society.

As for the term itself... I'm sorry it offended you. It offended me as well. But there you have it... today, that term is being used by feminists to say "We are S!uts and we are proud of it."

This is just a thought... but maybe it's time for all women, especially feminists, to re-examine what "modern day" feminism stands for and if they actually agree with its goals and methods.

Cheers!
