Are you feminist or sexist?

Neither?

Feminism is the fight for equality between the sexes

If feminism was really "the fight for equality between the sexes" then wouldn't it be called humanist?

Feminism first and foremost is advocating women's rights.
Can you point to any program advocated by feminists to promote men's rights where there may be inequality e.g. family/child law? where it was specifically advocating men's rights, potentially to the detriment of current female rights, rather than serendipitous to promoting women's rights?

Other than that I believe in far smaller and less powerful government and see "feminism" as a political movement to change how government makes laws as simple posturing and annoying.

Government is inefficient in affecting social change.
Society changes no matter what a government does.
The biggest contributor to change is simply what works and what doesn't to facilitate pregnancies.
Technology is a bigger factor than government in changing society.
Government simply rides the coattails to what actually changes societies.

Feminism is relatively pointless except for people to use to pretend their lives have importance and meaning and to justify feeling superior.

I may be a sexist.
I do feel in certain situations individuals face in life that there can be conditions that make gender based traits, or simply being a specific gender, superior.

But that vacillates between men and women depending on the situation.

What is that? Sexy moral relativism?

But I do not feel one gender is inherently better than another in all things as an absolute.

Although I do tend to feel almost everyone is truly an a-hole no matter their gender they just try to hide it.
Anti sexism? The belief that each gender is worse than the other but that they're all bad?

probably a little of both

I believe women are usually more naturally nurturing and men are usually physically stronger

I believe in family and gender roles too

but I dont believe any of them better than the other and that all the roles work together as equally important parts of the partnership or family unit

Of course I have a ... uh ... crush on msharmony. She is a sexy woman.
However, that is not why I agree with her recent response in this thread.

Ok...what some of you young woman don't get and I hate to think that I'm the oldest broad here but if it's so that's 'OK' too; but let me explain what my world was like and what I had to look forward to pre-liberation!

If we hadn't fought for our 'RIGHTS' and burned our bra's nothing would have changed for us! My greatest career goals were either: a secretary/school teacher/nursing or join the Waves/WAC's in some clerical position/waitress/or best bet yet become engaged before my jr high school year with plans for a Sr Summer wedding and become a bride within 2 months of graduation from high school!!!

Yes indeed that was what a young lady of social standing in America was SUPPOSED TO DO and not make wave's about anything that she didn't like - to be seen and NOT HEARD! To deviate from any of those career paths was to become a 'PROBLEM' for the community and be branded as a malcontent/wild woman that was NEVER GOING TO FIND A HUSBAND THAT WOULD PUT UP WITH HER AND THAT WOULD ALL BRING SHAME ON HER FAMILY!
I wanted to take wood shop & mechanics in high school; my councilor called my parents --- Are you CRAZY, young ladies belong in office practice where you'll learn short hand/typing/business machines...not in SHOP CLASS - no way!

Stereotypical labels and putting us into boxes where we were told what to do - when to do it - what to wear - what to think - how to act - and never argue with the MEN WHO MADE THOSE RULES!

To be seen down town without a buddy/friend was to be called 'LOSE' and you got a reputation - to be seen riding a bicycle with anything shorter then clam diggers/peddle pushers was something a police officer would pick you up and take you off of the streets and deliver you & your bicycle home for! Any of these would award you with a enough public demerits to warrant never getting a date to any school function for the entire school year! I mean what mother in her right mind would allow her son to be seen with such a charlatan/hussy of a woman!

You young ladies have it so easy-peasy because we fought - we stood up - we burned our bras and we told them{establishment} to STICK IT and we weren't going to be the SHEEP THAT WE SAW OUR MOTHERS BEING! Treated like 2nd/3rd class rate humans without any feelings or that they didn't have a brain; men went to work - went to the bars/American Legion and got drunk - blew the pay checks and while the women worked came home took care of the house/the children and never - NEVER got the credit and were paid horrible wages for factory jobs/nursing home jobs/cleaning jobs for the wealthy...because that's all they could get!

Sorry about my rant but reading that other thread that was locked up just got under my skin and started a rash that soon became another boil on my arse!

I fought hard for the right to vote at 18 and wanted to attend a Vet. college and that was going to be hard since they just had opened that up and there was a QUOTO for female students! UGHHHHHH So you young woman have soooo many options now that we never did but had we not pushed/shoved and stood our ground you'd never have what we didn't and what your mothers never had --- so don't negate that EVER!

Read and become better informed about how those women were treated and what they went through trying to make things change for all of you!!!

https://tavaana.org/en/content/1960s-70s-american-feminist-movement-breaking-down-barriers-women

It didn't make us 'MAN HATERS' but the MEN HATED the changes that we forced upon them; and THAT was the difference in the word Feminism/Liberated Woman...stepping off my soap box and passing the sledge hammer to whomever would like to carry it forward!

Thank you flowerforyou

The main thing I've seen happen with sexism and feminism (and a lot of other isms) over the years, is how the facts and the meanings and the reasons for them all seem to get lost.

Or more accurately, how a lot of less-than-honest people discard the real meanings and reasons in favor of using the labels for personal gain of one sort or another.

Males who want something to blame the fact that they refuse to see past the end of their own "thingy" use the labels to excuse themselves from thinking. Women who think "equality" means privileges for themselves and all responsibility for everyone else, use them to excuse their rude selfishness. Politicians who want to deflect accurate assessments of their own failings, or who want to sneak self-enrichment programs and laws in right in front of their own supporters, use them to distract voters from reality, using their own prejudices against them. Third-rate wanna-be media hacks, use them to excite audience response in forum troll fashion, without bothering to either use them accurately, or even to discuss them directly.

That's WHY we keep getting thread after thread like this one, or on other subjects that the "refuse-to-see-reality" people invade and smear with the same ignorant complaints over and over again.

And the same goes for women.
It's not only men who don't respect women, it's women too.
